It'd be cool to see the guys eligible to run a single digit to do so. in 2028 3,6,8,9 are all up for grabs.

6, 8 and 9 are already available.

I know that but the numbers have already been assigned this year, so they won't be used and won't be available until 2028

Technically, if Eli wants, the number 3 could only be made available in 2029.

Do either of the Coenens fancy the number 3? I imagine they will be the next ones eligible for a single digit that doesn’t already have one or a career number that doesn’t want a single digit.

Wouldn't they have to win something first?

If not, and he doesn't score 25 points next year he could petition to keep it for an extra year.

So, it could be available in 2027, 2028, or 2029, all depending on what he decides to do.

Why does Chisolm get to keep the #11 for 2027? He retired a year ago then came back and didn't earn the 25 points needed to keep it?

He’s saying they are the most likely of the current riders who don’t have a single digit number to win a title.

Bring back Red Bull straight rythym. That’s an event I see Eli doing one day.

I cant even imagine who would run it, the person who does has the biggest shoes in the world to fill, and I hope it’s someone that can have a similar impact on the sport that Eli has.

Someone has to earn it first. And even if they do, nobody will want to take it, as to show respect. Not for a long time.

He petitioned to keep it another year. They're allowed to do that once.

It’s not like they’re taking number 3 on the Yankees. 🤦🏼‍♂️

I don't see him as the type to hang on to a number.

Agree, I think this will be a clean break.  And I also think it will be a few years before someone takes the 3.  I think 9 will be next for some reason.

He'd have to modify a bunch of bling and tats if he did.

So would I. I really hope he keeps 38.

I think Deegs should take the 8 and start 8 ball riding gear.

Davies claimed #5. First foreigner to take a single digit since Grant Langston. I don't compare this to Blake Baggett taking the #4 after a tasteful interval, many wanting to see the legendary #4 permanently retired. But I don't see Davies landing the 250 title as a season of relentless and uninterrupted beast mode, nor 24 spectacular displays of talent and skill.

Somebody had to win, but is he gonna be seen as living up to the great #5? I don't see him at that level, but we watched Zach Osborne go from bring a super-motivated privateer to being a true champion. I always felt he truly earned the 2017 250cc outdoors title with gritty beastiness, and evolving a level even further in the 2020 450cc.

It’s not just Seely who believe they “own” a number for life. Seem to recall Ferrandis wanting the 10, but Brayton put in a request to keep it solely so that McAdoo could have it the following year (which didn’t happen—McAdoo crashed out). I like both guys, but damn….

Seely and the 14 is still funny to me because the whole time he was using it, it belonged to Windham.
