It couldn't be an AMA sanctioned series, FELD has the rights to that, it could be an FIM sanctioned series WSX!

I’ve seen it and it’s getting around. I’m close friends with close to a dozen media guys, everyone is scratching their head. I’m not going to post the document because I don’t want anyone in specific to  get in trouble before the meeting where it will likely be quickly spread from that point.

I have a feeling tomorrow’s meeting is going to be rather exigent and tense.

Sorry to be the “insider guy not sharing info” that’s been rightfully getting shade lately. I just don’t want to get friends chastised.

“Grow the sport!!” they said. “Learn from NASCAR!!” they urged. “We need to expand the appeal to non-current viewers!!” they appealed. “Quit catering to the redneck bro crowd!!” they snorted. “Bigger is BETTER!!” they chanted in legion.

Are we there yet….?

Used to be a NASCAR fan. The more gimmicks (Stage racing, The Chase) has driven me off. Not sure if you have noticed, but NASCAR is in free fall. Most tracks (I live close to Texas Motor Speedway) have started removing the back straight seating. Listening to a Kenny Wallace Interview with Kyle Larson (2 Time Series Champion) and Kenny said his salary as a mid-packer was comparable to what Larson is getting today. The glory days of NASCAR are behind them, Might want to emulate another series to grow the sport.

It's only a matter of time before Feld figures out what NASCAR has had to do to "fill" the stands.  Reduce the size of the venues and then paint the seats so it looks like someone is sitting in them🤣.  Sounds like a great use of AI for the broadcast...

Moto is just like NASCAR in a couple of ways.  They've crapped on their core fans to the point of disinterest in the live events and they've changed the formats to suit broadcast, not the actual racing.  One day they'll wake up and their attendance will be half what it was...and they'll wonder why.

Yeah, the prices seem egregious. Feld is a fucking disgrace. The greed they are putting on full display is nothing short of a comical, movie villain.

$1-2.5K per minute? Are they fucking out of their mind? Who do these POS bastards think they are? This ain't F1, no one is generating close to that amount of revenue per video.

All that they are going to do is destroy all the social media content that keep fans engaged in the sport, resulting in lower ticket sales for THEM.

ML and the other media orgs and OEMs -- I hope you raise hell.

Man, I remember in 2022 going to A2 supercross, stands were mildly full, buddy and I bought upper deck tickets and roamed wherever we wanted.

Couple years later, sold out completely. I credit the personalities of the sport and the corresponding social media content for the fanbase growth the last few years.

While I do agree you need to filter the people filming and not anyone with a 10 follower IG page needs credentials, the stars of the sport and the access to them via their social channels gave the sport a boost it needed, which is not a metric that is easily viewable on an excel sheet for a giant corp.

What makes the parent co more money? Squeezing the Deegans for every social media channel penny, or putting butts in the seats at all the rounds?

Kinda crazy to me. Cant see the forest through the trees.

The fact is that at some point, the teams and manufacturers get together and form their own series, and cut out Feld.

It takes a lot to put on these races, and Feld has that working.  But people reach a breaking point, and disallowing team managers to speak freely about problems, banning or suspending rights to manage their teams, then not allowing mostly ex-riders to continue making a living in the sport, is going to push Feld out.

I'm not getting religious here (I'm a Christian though), but there's a valid guiding principle about this in the bible that makes the point.
It basically says that a farmer shouldn't harvest every single piece of fruit from every single tree, but should instead leave a bit for those who need it.

I look at this for the auto industry for example, in that auto manufacturers don't monopolize auto parts and repair, allowing an industry to thrive.
The motorcycle industry does a good job.  With that, we have a choice of equipment, gear, etc... and everyone is able to innovate, even the little guy who has an idea.  Everyone benefits.  Everyone.

If Feld is to lead Supercross/Motocross, then they have a responsibility to make sure there's opportunity for the entire ecosystem to thrive, and for ex-racers to continue to stay in the ecosystem.

Instead of restricting things too far, they need to empower everyone involved to make money, promote the sport, and be creative, then make rules only as necessary to keep things from going sideways.  Everything doesn't have to be tidy.  By and large, we're all a pretty passionate group.  There's going to be a bit of Chaos from time to time.

I say, allow the media access, and for even the small, one man media channels to do what they do.  We'll sort out the good and not so good.
All of the coverage grows the sport.

The fact is Feld needs the manufacturers, teams, riders, media.  The manufacturers. teams, riders, media sort of need Feld, but they can band together and replace Feld if needed.  It would be very difficult for a season or 2, but it is doable.

Better is for Feld to take on the responsibility for empowering the ecosystem to thrive, not just themselves.  If they do, everyone benefits, and our sport grows.

Seems like they don't care if the sport dies as long as they make a quick buck on the way out

Well, that's some serious Mount Rushmore photo talent that will, unfortunately, be shooting weddings on Saturdays next season. I have to believe this new arrangement has been discussed in detail and worked out over the last year or two. Shooting is just part of the operation--It will also require an experienced staff to download, rename and add metadata and copyright info to all images as well as retouching, and uploading to multiple servers as quickly as possible. Someone with experience had to walk Feld through this well ahead of time and advise them on how to do it. I'm guessing that someone will be on the list of "League" photographers.

Do you have any idea how much content you're going to be able to show out of each race?

Very curious to see how this shapes the media landscape. I feel for the friends I've made in the industry who rely on going to the races week in and week out to make a living. Some of these companies simply wont have enough budget to pay these guys. Heck, they hardly have any budget now. At a minimum you're looking at an additional $8-10k per client if they want coverage for every round (I don't have the doc or have read more than what was posted above, so this is my assumption). I can't see many companies paying that including OEMs who I would assume will be on the hook for a higher tier.

Scroll through the pages of Vital and count the photos and videos that would fall under Feld's new restrictions, then use Feld's rate card to add up the credential and usage costs. It's an unworkable model.

By design. They don’t want you there. They want their content to be THE content, period. If anyone else is dumb enough to pay those fees, they’ll take their money and laugh the whole time.

It's all seems very monopoly-ish tactics to me. Rather than provide a superior product they are just squeezing out the competition.

But...they are providing the platform so 🤔🤔

It's more profitable to control/remove competition and provide a mediocre product that doesn't elict any opinions that are too positive or too negative. It just needs to be passable to an average person who doesn't know any better.

See... everything in the world that large corporations touch. Boring as fuck.

This accurately explains those shitty shirts and merch they sell at the races.

This is the info I was referring to; but, only had it from a text from someone that was not sure if it could be shared publicly.

I think we all understand that SX/MX/SMX is a for profit business; but, it really would be nice if they didn’t seem to completely forget “the little operation”, and I’m referring to someone like Burkeen… & that people like him…they’re in a tiny lil’ segment of their own…and it sure as hell would be nice if they didn’t try to eliminate the fun small operator like Matt.

I guess we can chalk this up to “Big Business” or the like…but, damn…the moves made by the folks the run our races, as of late, sure seem ultra-manipulative and fly in the face of open communication and transparency.

Meet the New Boss.
