Back to the topic at hand...
With all of the stories I've been reading about lake levels being at all time lows, maybe this could be a prime opportunity to raise those levels back to a normal level.

...by inserting his political stance so that these threads take a turn down TDS alley.
El Nino or El Nina, here in OZ, we get hammered either way.
As it says in the poem, My Country : (A Land) " Of Droughts and Flooding Rains " - she, Dorothea Mackellar, got the whole 'EL' thing.
The Driest Continent on Earth - that can then get Drowned.
That's why 85% of our population, live about 50k from the Coast.
There's a few in here that are like the friends of friends that never get invited back to the desert, or a riding trip or birthday party or what have you, but somehow they keep showing back up 🙄 One trick pony's who never say anything insightful or (Gasp) positive, yet they always show up, like an irritating gnat 🤪😆 I will try to up my adulting game and do my best to ignore them, but fuckin a sometimes... hahaha. Ok back on track.
Yes I hope we get our reservoirs and lakes filled, and enough runoff to replenish some sand along our coastline without doing too much damage from floods and landslides. We shall see. It'd be nice to see the local ski resorts have banner years too.
I’m in the business of fixing landslides, debris flows, scour etc so I agree with your statement! Although job security, they are a pain the ass and seem to happen all at once. Slow and steady
If you liked that guys style, he also has a California Weather Watch channel. https://www.youtube.com/@CaliforniaWeatherWatch
Maybe, but sailors have been referencing the el nino since the 16-1700's.
Better diets, limited tv options. No phones, no social media. Bedtime was cardio with a partner or sleep. No doom scrolling for 2h.
I just drove back to Phoenix from Flagstaff, and hit several spots of rain so hard I could not see anything. Completely blind. The desert areas look like shallow lakes, just water everywhere. Strong winds too, was a little scary at times driving with the sudden wind gusts jerking my truck around.
But we need it, I think we have "officially" had like 2-3" of rain all year in the Phoenix area so the rain is badly needed. It is supposed to continue all day and into the night.
About 10 more days like this and maybe we will be out of the drought....
Just hope there's no flash flood tragedies like was had in the grand canyon recently.
Edit:
Mt Elden has an awesome bunch of mt bike trails.
right! Also there was an emphasis on fitness starting in Elementary school. Back in 2nd grade around 1962 it was a BIG deal to have annual Presidential fitness campaign that was a defined set of exercises and activities that most public schools eagerly participated in. Rankings collected at each site were sent to Wash DC and at some point a list of "Presidential Awards" was handed out at schools along with national recognition of the winners and their schools. Competition was good and fun for us. Then certain groups started objecting to ridicule of overweight or people with disabilities not being able to compete just because they were "different". That morphed into "plus size" clothing for fat people (we shopped in the "husky" boys section" at clothing stores) and Capitalists figured there was an unserved market to address and moved the conversation away from treating overweight people as needing to lose weight but to highlight it and create new revenue streams catering to people who let themselves go.
Jack Lalane had an exercise TV show followed by Richard Simmons and others with their own pitches.
It got worse when the Psychological studies began and publishing case studies of fat people and mainstreamed the idea obesity was a "disease" and the obese people couldn't help it because they had an illness that was a massive get out of jail free card for lazy, unmotivated whatever copping out of healthy lifestyles and even pushed physical activity out of regular school days or allowing no Dr excuse needed just to never participate in anything physical. Of course militant groups popped up to represent people being picked on for being lazy and fat, and again marketers seized the opportunity to create diet food lines, gyms opened up everywhere and it kinda blew up into the 1980s with celebrity workout tapes and celebrities being signed as spokespeople for all kinds of "healthy living" products and group programs.
Now it seems modern science rules the day with advent of the GLP1 drugs being readily available and still people can lose weight the easy way without really having to exercise and develop healthy habits. Who knows what the next phase will be- maybe a brain implant? lol
