Ryan Villopoto is back on two-stroke power - and back at the track that made him a legend. We put RV2 on Kawasaki's brand new 2027 KX 327 and let him rip laps at the infamous Ironman National circuit in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
The smoke, the sound, the smell - it's all here. Watch one of the greatest of all time get reacquainted with a 2-stroke on the same dirt where he built his legacy.
This excites me
Now that was awesome. I’m getting one if I can get my hands on one.
Ironman, which wasn't on the circuit until after RV had already raced his last AMA national, made him a legend?
Sounds a little rattle-ey compared to the earlier KX clips in the same video. Or compared to a YZ250/CR250. Been a two stroke rider forever these things sort of stand out to me. Power seems good on the loam, hard to wheelie on that stuff without alot of power.

It wouldn't be a Kawi smoker without some KIPS rattle.
my office mates just made me turn down my computer speakers as they were set to 11.
Some people are so rude! Remind them its a 2 stroke and TURN IT UP.
RV is playing a dangerous gane... You have to hold the ratio rite over the gas can until every last drop of oil trickles out or you will seize your engine. At least that's what I was told as a kid. 😁
Ratio Rite? we didn't have them newfangled things when I grew up with 2t in the 1970s. We used baby bottles for measurement.
"This is the start of the 2 stroke revolution"

You didn't splash a bit of gas in the Ratio Rite and swirl it around to get all the oil?
What kind of parenting was that?
Not to brag, but I had the cap accessory for the ratio rite. It was about $3.00 and kept it clean. Yeah, I was pretty bad ass looking back.
Bike sounds more like a KDX 227.
Too tingy...needs more deep throatiness, bark...woof woof, you know.
And can we leave e-start off just one bike for gawds sake. The sound of a kickstarter slamming into the foot peg whilst the engine fires to life with a deep throaty bark beats the piss out of....whir whir whir, tingy tingy tingy.
What makes Ironman "infamous", or does the writer not know what it means?
They might have used it correctly
It is said every year Ironman gets worse so it just might be infamous
He even did an old school 1 foot down on the start. Thank you!
Should've been Budds Creek
Meh, I'll take my YZ's. Bike sounds like garbage. The old one in the beginning sounded better.
Pit Row
Absolutely 100% was what I was thinking.
how long til we get Carson brown on that bad boy
I wonder if anyone will offer an ecu that remaps the power valve to give it some hit like a proper 2t
Good point.
that thing sounds choked off right at lower mid range....
It probably is tuned quite low to mid and smooth power delivery for the mass. I'd be willing to bet they can come alive easily if the rider has the desire, to have theirs worked on. But for most riders, the current power delivery is probably what they desire. Jmho
Been lurking for a few years finally made an account. Put in a deposit for one back when they started taking deposits and really excited to get back on a Kawasaki dirt bike.

Bike is clipping at high rpm pretty badly. Hopefully it is sorted out soon. I really want one of these when they hit the second year of production.
In fairness Yamaha pulled r&d the same time other Japanese did with 2 strokes they just had the foresight as a parts bin company to keep printing the same thing every year. They dropped 2 strokes everywhere else and who knows if they'll update the yz if sales drop far enough to no longer make sense to keep making them.
At this point now Kawasaki has the most developed 2 stroke and threw a bunch of money to the cause to see how it plays out making a bike people want.
Also YZ's are a pretty ugly chopped bike the frame looks they took the previous steely and just said F it to design a new chassis just make the same thing but aluminum. Bet the new Kawasaki is faster and feels better everywhere and you aren't getting close to as loaded with features at near the same price. Hell adding an estart would probably break even alone.
It actually sounded better here than it has in the other clips I've seen. Most of the time it sounds like it has a rag in the airbox. Maybe its the efi, maybe its cuz it has a silencer the size of a kx450f can? Not sure. Seems like maybe mitch or a tuner cleaned it up a bit more for this shot cuz even tho it didnt sound great, it def sounded better than it has so far.
That being said I’m pumped about this thing coming out. The sound is my only 1 complaint and I’m sure that will be fixed with a pipe/silencer. Having another one of the big 4 get back into 2 strokes is big for the longevity of the sport and it brings us that much closer to the ama finally adding the equal displacement rule.
It’s probably a Vet 50+ ecu setting. Once updated it should be nasty. Looks like it handles Great though. It will be fun next yr racing against another 2-st . Get rid of that 4-st silencer & I bet it sounds Way better.
Those older videos on 125 PC or works bikes were crisp, but the OEM silencer has to be quieter for modern noise standards. Can't wait to see what the aftermarket does for this bike.
