Triumph took less than an hour to turn down my buy back request on my 25 450 RC

Maybe I missed it? Did you notice the cylinder leak before putting 13hrs on it? If not it doesn't appear to have caused an issue. I'd definitely forward that photo to Triumph customer service "sean". I'm sure they could work something out.

I can only talk about my experience. 26 TF450X. 40hrs on it and I haven't had any issues with mine, knock on wood. Been a great bike. If anything, it was tough to find neutral on. No missed shifts or popping out of gear. My friend has a 25 RC model and it did have a few missed shifts.

Even though my bike didn't have issues it was part of their safety recall for the head and their transmission shift star update. They also supplied new clutch plates. The new head must have cost them a fortune. It comes ready to bolt on with everything installed and shimmed.

When I contacted my dealer they couldn't give me a time on when they'd received the parts. The only answer they got was they're back ordered. I contacted Triumph customer service. I too was assigned a rep "sean" probably same guy. He was very helpful and kept me updated, which in turn I kept my dealer updated when they'd receive the parts. It took them about a week to ship out my head (kit) and the updated shift selector/clutch kit. I arranged drop off at my dealer, they had it 2 days. I had them put in a new top end while it was apart. All labor and parts (except the requested top end) was covered by Triumph. I've put about 2 hours on it since. The new shift star kit with updated gear shift lever shifts smooth and neutral is much easier to click into. My buddy had his 25 done as well (before mine). He said his transmission felt much better with the upgraded kit. Same as mine, said neutral was much easier to find after it was installed.

Fix it and sell it. Take the hit and pick another color.  There are so many great bikes to choose from. Best of luck to you.

I noticed it 2 weeks ago after putting in a practice moto at Murphy's Mx in Red Rock Tx, then some random guy came up and told me about the recall, Triumph never told me anything, as I stated earlier the bike is at the dealer now. They are aware of the leak because I showed them in person.  Sean and the dealer are not  being helpful at all and can't say when the parts will arrive.  I stopped riding it that day as I didn't want to die that day.   After that ride it has 13 hours!!!

I submitted a formal request to Triumph, got a case #, they assigned a guy named Sean to review it, within an hour he basically told me FO and "Ride Safe", on top of the Cylinder head Recall and the Clutch and Trans issue mine has coolant seepingIMG 4624 %283%29.jpeg?VersionId=pcDL2F out the side of the cylinder, How could they make such a pile and send it out to market.  My bad for buying one but I thought they looked good. 13 hours on the bike.

Dude , why did U buy Triumph? There is so many other nice bikes proven already. Not smart !

As the guy who started the original thread about all the issues with these i can tell you why he bought the bike. The 250 and 450 arel awesome bikes.

The fit, the feel, the ride, the way the pegs kind of force your feet into the frame and to keep your toes inside. They'r  really, really great bikes to ride once they're sorted.

If you can show Triumph the cylinder has a casting defect such as porosity or pinhole this would be considered an inherent defect. Meaning the defect occurred during casting. But you need to prove it. You can do this by testing that area utilizing Liquid Penetrant Testing (LPT). If you know any welding inspectors, or material testing laboratories, they can do the test. (LPT) is great finding defects open to the surface on casting’s . Then take pictures of the test results attach inspection report and send them to Triumph.

No thank you, I have a Yamaha with 80+ hrs on it and it's bullet proof.  Dump it and get a bike that you love. That's why we ride moto.  I hope you get this worked out .

OP don't listen to the " you should've known crowd". Triumph has been in business for over 100 years. They are one of the most globally recognized motorcycle companies in history. They have a worldwide dealer and service network. And, they invested heavily in developing this bike and proving it at the highest level.

The idea that you should've known that they would make a bIke that couldn't last 10 hours and wouldn't support it is wrong.

The brand has been in existence that long, but this Triumph company has existed since 1983 and is a completely different beast, for better and worse, than the original creators of the mark.

Being an early adopter of a manufacturer's completely new product is always a risk, but not specific to Triumph.

Because its more cost effective than a lawsuit if someone gets killed on their self-proclaimed unsafe bike.  Its a major safety recall, not a clutch lever!!!

Curious here too. It has been asked a couple times, but OP did you only give them the option to buy it back? kinda seeming like this might be a 2 sided story... Not that it makes Triumphs issues non-existent, and obviously they got big problems worthy of bitchin about, but maybe they were fine with warranty on the cylinder etc. If thats the case, then this is a bit misleading and you should just get it warrantied and sell it. I guarantee the manufacturer does not have a mechanism in place to buy their own used bikes back. It sucks, I realize you would still probably lose money, but thats a gamble many have taken with different things in the past and sometimes it doesn't work out.

I am so tempted to go grab one of the kawi 327's when they hit dealer floors, but I know it's probably better to wait and see if there are any of these types of threads popping up in regards to that bike over the next year.

That's not how it works but OK. They are under obligation to fix the issue that the recall is about but that's about it.

Have you ever got your money back for a defective product or do you just eat it and move on?

honestly its not simple shit. I feel for you and get the frustration, but it's just not how things work. Your not being able to race is a true bummer for you, but not relevent to them. So they will fix it, when they have the parts, and you will pick it up, thats how it will go. Sorry man

When they fix it under the recall and when they are done you get it back sell it. Now you may have to wait a bit for them to fix it but the world isn't fair.

I hope you get this worked out. But I think you're going to be pissed off at how this ends up. Good luck.

Look at "only i know how the world works" go here... lmaooo

Triumph can do as they please... if they want to get a rep for great customer service, they cut the check and buy it back... seen that dozens of times in my life on various cars, trucks and bikes...

No... they defff aren't mandated to do it... absolutely not... you are correct there...

BUT.... is cutting a 15k check actually saving cash vs a thread like this that will run off dozens/hundreds of potential buyers???

Then there's just doing the right thing..... which of course, u think is unthinkable... Yet still exists in this world by some companies....

plus....

Triumph is loaded rn.... their sales have tripled worldwide since startin to sell those Bajaj 400s... they have the cash... they just run by people like you....

I’m pretty sure we’ve all had some product crap the bed at some point and we’ve been able to return if it was within the manufacturer warranty. There are outliers like Costco that will take back something from way too long ago, but that is not the norm.

This is especially true for motor vehicles, and in your (our) case, racing vehicles. There is a small window of manufacturer warranty period to deal with manufacturing defects, and/or safety recalls. After that you’re on your own. We all know it. Some manufacturers will goodwill a repair after the warranty period but that is on a case by case basis and totally at their discretion.

In this case, it sucks man, it really does. But like most of the guys have chimed in here, you have to go through the process. Let them fix it, and then decide what you want to do with the bike. You’re trying for the nuclear option right off the bat with a buy back, and they're not going to oblige because they don’t have to.

Man I'm sorry. That legitimately sucks. A local dealership had some of these at reduced prices but I avoided them due to all the issues I've heard about. Bought a Beta 2T instead.

There's a weirdness on this forum if you say anything bad about a manufacturer, but...Triumph is dropping the ball here. It's the same reason I ditched KTM/GG/HQ. I emailed them with a known con rod issue, pics in hand with the word of a reputable engine repair guy, and they ghosted me.

These companies do a cost optimization on the risk of not fixing vs fixing the issue. They all do it, for everything. It's stupid and shortsighted, because they're guaranteeing everyone will be skeptical of buying a Triumph in the future.
