There's an '05 that looks to be in good shape for $2300 on ebay right now in San Dimas CA. Why drop $8k on a new one? Spend another $2300 for a matching 125 and you've still got $3400 in your jeans to refurbish them and go racing. Replace all the bearings and bushings, levers and grips and they'll feel like brand new bikes.
proof right there that it doesn't have to cost a fortune to go racing locally. So all those that say its the cost of this or that, that is killing motocross is BS. If you think you have to have a brand new bike to be competitive and that it needs motor work, suspension and all the goodies, then it is your ego that is making the cost of racing more expensive....

That looks great. What was involved in the bodywork conversion? Looks like an aluminum tank.

Just think about it. Find the YZ that has the new SST forks and run with that. Picked up an 06 for 2500 and I'm dropping 500 into it and its ready to race. 3K for a bike that will last you years.

Ask your self this...would any of you buy a 5 year old four stroke?
R-acer wrote:

Ok ill bite....

If you didn't have enough money to buy a brand new bike, only enough to get a 5 year old bike. What would you get? Two stroke or four?

And to COMPLETELY rebuild a four stroke and a two stroke which would be more money? I think we all know the answer to that question.

So in the cheapest form a two stroke still wins out. No matter the situation.

Like I said, a two stroke you can get for 2500 bucks and have a good bike with out having to spend more then a few hundred to get it back in shape. Hell a header and silencer for a four stroke is half of what the damn two stroke would cost.

I bought a 04 yz125 for $1000 and it was/is bone stock... it still had the stock chain/sprockets on it. I've put about $500 into it and that thing is an absolute blast to ride. I always have to chuckle a little when I pass someone on a brand new 450 that's pimped out to the max. I mean if you enjoy buying all that stuff in order to build/design your dream bike, more power to you, but you know a lot of those guys have to think the aftermarket exhaust and extensive motor work on the already overly powerful $8000 bike will give them an advantage on the track, and I wonder if it ever wears on them when they get passed by a 7 year old bone stock 125... kind of like it wears on me a little when a I get passed by a fearless 13 y/o kid that can't touch the ground when he's on his bike, haha.
P.S. I'm not talking about passing 450's like I'm some really fast rider... I'm talking about beginner riders that have $12,000+ bikes. I'm not very fast at all Unsure

Dude I had an 04 YZ125 and that thing was a fuggin rocket. Put the v-force on along with the fmf pipe and carbon shorty and it ripped. Call up wiesco and see about getting a suzuki ring when ever you do a top end. They should tell you what year suzuki ring will work and it will have a lot tighter ring end gap. Thing brings back memories!

Hmm , upon closer inspection I'm wondering if its photoshopped. If it is its a damn good one.

Not photoshopped. These guys sell a kit to run the new generation 250F bodywork on the two strokes: http://www.vdlaarracing.com/

I'm actually about to drop in a new top end, but I was planning on just ordering OEM. I feel like I've heard a lot of bad things about wiseco. I might go with the v-force and exhaust when I get my tax return in, but after the top end my focus will be on getting the suspension set up. I absolutely love riding it though. It's so light. I used to dislike riding on windy days because it feels like it's blowing the bike out from under me, but this bike is so light it feels like you can just throw it around in any way you want.

mx is 90%rider anyway!, don t hate on a dude that has a pimped out bike, I m sure if you had the money you would nt be riding a 04 yz 125! People work hard for their money, why worry how a dude spends his money? A stock bike is great but more power to the trick bikes, i like to look at what local dudes do to their stuff! either waste it on dirt bikes or gambling, drugs, alcohol, whats the difference. At least you have something to show for it! I like both types of bikes, ktm is the only one that have updated their 2 strokes, 4 strokes you get the latest technology.

Naw I agree, I'm not hating on people with nice bikes. Hell I enjoy checking them out and if I had the money I'd love to set up my dream bike exactly the way I'd want it, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that (which is why I said "more power to them"). But I do think it's funny that people will drop thousands to make their bike faster and more powerful with the mentality that it will equate to them being faster on the track.

LOL, I would be the same slow dude on a yz 85 or Dungeys factory zook! I like the aftermarket stuff man its trick, afaster dude would be able to appreciate more mods than a regular joe, i think older dudes have better jobs and have more money to throw into their bikes, and it puts more money into the indusrty . And i m cool with that!

I spent $1,100 on a 2003 YZ250 with Pro Circuit pipes, big bars and a bunch of other goodies. I spent about $50 getting the tools to replace the leaky fork seals and front brake pads. If I ride more, I might buy a newer KTM 250sx but either way a used two stroke is the way to go. I had a smile on my face from ear to ear the first time I rode it at the track.

This is no photoshop.
It's what Moto Mofo said, a kit for a YZ250.
Aluminium tank (plastic ready in about 1 á 2 months), other sub frame+filter casket, radiators just a little forward.
(sorry for my poor english btw.. I'm form Holland)
Here are more pics. I rode it for the first time last weekend.

I live in Oldebroek, a little village near Zwolle. Friesland has some nice tracks (Marum, Joure for example)
Where did you live?

Do you have the website info for the company that makes that kit, I found it once, but I have since lost it. Also how much did you pay for it, I will perform the dollar conversion if you are unable to.

I've thought about why Yamaha would charge that much for an outdated bike and the only thing I could come up with, is they don't want it to compete with the over priced 4 stroke line.

If they were to drop the price to what they should and make enough volume for the current demand, it would kill the 4-stroke sales.

We can't have that now, can we...........Wink

Bike looks good with the upgraded plastic! IMO yamaha would make a killing if they did that and added black excels to the 2012 2 stroke!

I've never thought of money spent on any of those items as being wasted.
