Ha, I don’t do engines. Just trying to figure out what this will cost to get someone to rebuild it. Thanks for replies
$2500 - $3000 +
3k+
For a KTM the costs of parts are much more than jap bikes. $2500-3k for a KTM rebuild for sure.
A Kawi 450 you got about $800-$1000 in bottom end parts - excluding transmission. $450 in top ends parts.
Crank is $470 or so for a KX 450.
KTM 250f is $980 just for the crank.
Exactly what I was looking for, thank you guys.
This is correct ^^^
you dont replace the crankshaft on a KTM, you send it out to be rebuilt by a professional. You will save about $300 doing it this way.
You dont have to send a crank out your local shop can do it.
Any time you "sub" something out, IE not doing it yourself, would be considered "sending it out", That being said, there are A LOT of people that no longer have local competent motorcycle mechanics close to home. Ive been in the business for 20 years now, Ive had guys drive from as far as West Virginia for stuff because they dont have a trusted mechanic anywhere close.
Maybe. Should probably ask. They might give you the bullshot that it's cheaper to replace.
Why pollute the forum with garbage AI info?
How is it 3k for an engine rebuild? Is that price including labor or DIY?
complete new engine $3750 from KTM, available starting November

call for a local engine builder, last time i paid a guy for a complete topend i wanna say it was around 800 labor not counting parts. but that was like 8 years ago? YMMV

Yup, Brad is great!!!
Labor and Parts ~$3500, if you can actually buy a new engine from KTM for $3750 that's what I would do, keep the other as a spare or sell parts cases head etc.
The down votes came from the “case splitter”
Did it blow-up or is this preventative maintenance? That makes a big difference. How many hours are on it? I routinely put 120-150 hours on 250f top ends, never had to replace a 4-stroke crank. Don't let online people who change oil every 30 minutes, clean air filters every lap, and rebuild their engines every 12 hours scare you into over maintaining your bike.
I would do piston, rings, wrist pen, cam chain, and gaskets. There are people out there with 1,000 hours on ktm cranks.
