Friend of mine had his 2019 KTM 250SXF lock up the other day and he has since split the motor and identified a bad rod bearing.

He bought the bike used with about 50hrs on it after a recent engine rebuild due to being submerged/flooded/dropped in a river crossing. The bike ran for about 30 hrs before seizing on the big end. The guy that split the motor seems to think that the crank was pressed incorrectly/too tight.

My friend that owns the bike is probably going to sub the crank rebuild, so who does this type of work and what does it cost?

In California, I know Haeseker does good work. He's not at all local to SoCal but an option for you to consider. If it was my bike, I'd also look at the cost of a complete rotating assembly from KTM to compare with cost of rebuilding. They come complete and ready to drop in. I'm not sure how far apart the difference in cost would be but it's worth a look.

Thank you for the recommendation. I'll suggest that he give them a call.
MSRP is $956 for the OEM part.

Yes MSRP is pretty expensive, but you can find it for $700 or a little less from other retailers. Anyways, just another option but Haeseker is very good and will do it right. He's done quite a few motors for friends of mine.

Crankworks is probably the best in the business. They specialize in cranks. Rebuilds along with mfg ing their own cranks. No one has as much tooling for cranks as them. They do most of the race team cranks.

I used Ken Oconner Racing for a Prox rod rebuild on a YZ250 2 stroke crank. Very reasonable pricing. Some of the others mentioned I'm sure do good work too. But go to someone that does a TON of them. That's the key. They do them every day. Ken and Crankworks do just that.

He ended up going with Phil White at the recommendation of a friend. I linked him to this thread and he also passed along his appreciation for all the responses.
