I still haven't seen confirmation on if the riders that weren't paid have properly filled out tax documents and bank info submitted. We really know nothing about root cause, so in my opinion attributing blame to any party is premature.

The riders are all subcontractor performers not employees with taxes taken out of every paycheck. With a contract working for a team getting a pay check would be different

Subcontractors also need to fill out tax documents. IRS keeps tabs on every dollar these days, so anyone paying you also reports it to the IRS.

OK then so who was the rider that took over a year to get paid from the WSX series? and why did it take them so long to get the money?

Zero clue why it took so long, just got said in a passing/friendly conversation when we were both at a local track recently.

And that isn't news worthy? I don't understand the slew of media types we have in this sport and it takes a teenage participant of the sport to blow the whistle on promoters or whomever taking more than 7 weeks to pay them. Anyone think Walmart or McDonalds could skip paying people 7 weeks and it would go unreported? Thanks for the "We've known all along" insight ML. Maybe it is no big deal making the riders wait to get purse money when entry fees are absolutely up front. Unreal.

I just heard this in passing, like two weeks ago, and didn't have much to go off of other than on-side's take.

Don't get me wrong, I am not a fan of the "I heard something but can't tell you about it" style of things. I feel like I'm good 98% of the time at just being blunt and not doing that.

I also don't like spreading misinformation without double-checking if I'm actually going to report on something, officially. In the case right now, Kris just blurted a bit on his pod and maybe didn't have all the facts straight, so now it's a shit show that's coming back on him.

Hey man, I get it. It’s a tough line to walk. I appreciate how you go about things most of the time. I know you are doing your best.

What I can’t wrap my head around is how you, a media guy, says something like “didn’t have much to go off of except one side’s take”.

I get that you hear things all the time so I’m not here to light you up about not investigating this within two weeks and reporting back. However, do you not listen what has been repeated over and over again for years, on your site, about moto media?

Seems whenever something comes up, it’s the same story. Most of the media guys were already aware to some degree and none of them did anything to find out more, hence journalist always being put into quotes when preceded by the word moto.

So the question becomes…how do you decide what to report on?

From my POV, there seems to be a “no one reports on shit, until everyone reports on shit” thing going on in this industry. Don’t ask questions, just keep the weekly carousel entertainment flowing.

Doesn't seem like WSX has problems like this...

Maybe time for a change

If it takes that long they never had the money to begin with. No doubt about it.

Fair enough, but that would be a big deal to me if I was owed that money. Do you think this deserves looking into, maybe asking other riders if they are getting paid? Says volumes about the financial responsibility of the series, doesn't it. It's not a shit show if true. Whether WSX, AMA, or NFL if the actual participants are getting their pay delayed for months somebody should have some answers and it needs to stop.

I don't have a good contact at WSX right now. The rider wasn't bothered by it and said it was all cleared up, and I have 19 million other things to work on. If it were a standing issue and I had a bunch of riders bringing it up, I'd do some digging.

I get told weird rumors, stories, and odd things nearly all day. I try to follow up on as much as I can, but as I've also learned the past year or so...a 18 hour a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year schedule is hard on the body...mind...and relationships/friendships. I took my first ever vacation this year since I became a "working man" over 15 years ago.

I'm also not a "full-time reporter". I'm not using this as a copout, but I hold a million roles. I'm the staff photographer, product reviewer, and director of all content. I run all our social media accounts, sales meetings, and I've been on over 80 airplanes this year...having easily spent over two weeks airborne. I also manage this forum, responsible for multiple weekly editorials, YouTube videos, and podcasts. I also spend a chunk of time each week giving brands, team owners, and some riders advice or connections they need. I deal with budgets, PL sheets, staff expense reports, and much more.

Remember that whole Deegan/bike claim debacle? I spent over 40 hours that week on phone calls, digging, texts, and producing a feature on that.

This is not News Weekly, where there are multiple reporters who can spend their entire working week on a single story.

As for what I decide to work on, stuff that matters to the majority of viewers and a big part of that is consistent features that people enjoy. Pit Bits, bike intros, the great race coverage we do, the interviews, this forum , the podcasts, reporting on the things I can get right and mean something to a broad amount of readers.

For some, the gritty darkness of the sport is what they care most about, but the broad user base doesn't as much. Gotta strike a balance and build something for everyone, not just be full TMZ 24/7.

This reply is to both of your replies to me.

My first (longer) post had nothing to do with WSX. The quoted part was what you said regarding hearing two weeks ago about AMA riders not being paid. I appreciate all that you do (Well sort of. Not into hustle culture…happy you have found a bit more balance) and for sharing it with us. I don’t see you as journalist, but your claimgate efforts are probably the last and one of the few times that I’ve seen a media guy do some real investigative work on a current topic in this sport (it’s usually historical if it happens at all).

My second post came after posting the first one and then seeing that you skipped over the WSX rider name question. So…no…you didn’t answer my question. It wasn’t my question and it hasn’t been answered.

Getting threatened with the banhammer for my post is so GuyB lol

You brought up the WSX rider. You brought up the 98%. You chose the 2% path by avoiding the name question. And you chose to admit it was a friendly chat in passing, adding more fuel to the bro media fire.

I banned myself long ago because of your goggle ads, so please, save the empty threats and do what you gotta do. I am happy to place my attention elsewhere. Your advertisers’ budgets are better spent on someone else’s eyeballs anyways.

As for the "banhammer threat," yeah, man, when you walk into someone's place of business and shit in it, then point at the guy in charge, it's usually not well received. Wether its myself, GuyB, or your local bike shop. You took a shot at me first, so I'm not going to be all smiles in return.

I get it, and thought as much. And I doubt anyone holds you responsible to police the sport. But the AMA, the Coombs, the promoters, WSX, whomever not paying riders in a timely manner is shitty, I think we can all agree on that. Somebody who knows something should call out the prick responsible.

Clearly some miscommunication regarding which professional promoter didn’t pay their professional riders. Sounds like a story. I dunno.

You know what else I've learned in the past few years? In no world do I have to put up with people like you. Just because we have freedom of speech doesn't mean I have to put up with you. I think people have forgotten that just because you can say stuff on the internet that would get you punched in the face in person, it doesn't mean you should you should post that way. Goodbye.

(For anyone who's going to ask, yes, this user has now been banned and the account blocked. No, I don't enjoy this part of the job, but I will not be treated this way in my place of work every day. Ask me hard questions if you want, I'll do my best to answer them. My answer may not always be satisfactory, but that is no reason to come at me and start shit.)

As for the "banhammer threat," yeah, man, when you walk into someone's place of business and shit in it, then point at the guy in charge, it's usually not well received. Wether its myself, GuyB, or your local bike shop. You took a shot at me first, so I'm not going to be all smiles in return.

And if you "banned yourself" long ago, then why are you here? New names, same old people who can't help themselves.

Clearly some miscommunication regarding which professional promoter didn’t pay their professional riders. Sounds like a story. I dunno.I did take a shot at you and did...

I did take a shot at you and did not expect a smile. Took another too after you acted like GuyB.

Why am I here? Good question. Great time to re-evaluate. Thanks RT and ML for reminding me there are more valuable places to give my attention 🙏🏽✌🏽

Ps. Not a new name. I sent emails and DMs to you years ago about unblocking my old account(s). I think I even asked in a thread too. And maybe even a DM on IG. No response. I’ve never hid who I am.

Clap! Clap!  What a tool.  I can be an ass just as much as the next guy. But like you said, it's like when someone went into my old business and saying my wife is a wetback. She's Mexican.  Anyways, yeh,  why would you need to help someone like that?  Don't have to go home, but you can't stay here.  Lol

I think privateers getting hosed out of purse money is quite different than those scenarios. That it took a teenager who is known personally by many in the media to say he hasn't seen purse money in 7 weeks is not good. It smacks of exploitation.

I hadn’t heard that “gay Suzuki racer” in twenty years. That was a TWMX rumor.

I wonder if the people in charge of this are getting paid? I think it's better than 50/50 that they get paid on time...everytime... and their paychecks are direct deposit. But...the ones that make them the money, the riders, just can't get paid in a reasonable manner. Seems like there sb a solution to this, but I am baffled how it would be.

Guaranteed they did, otherwise they’d be filing complaints with the labor board. As for the riders, they’re being stroked with the money is coming soon, just keep racing and you should have it soon.

I doubt they will be cheated completely out of money, but not getting it timely is still beyond the pale. The nerve of these fuckers, everyone pays admission, entry fees, sponsorships, memberships, etc. on time, yet they make the participants wait to get paid...unexplained? What the hell is wrong with their scuples and ethics? What kind of black hearts do they have? Of course you get a penalty if you fuck up on the course though. And this is not one person's responsibility for sure, several people need to work at this to make this happen, and if Keefer jr. is not getting paid you know plenty in the media knew well before the "surprise" podcast. Whoever's job it is to cut these riders checks should fired immediately.

And you know plenty of people know who and why riders are waiting to get paid.

I'm not nor ever have been a pro racer and I'll state that i have met DC a few times and believe him to be a stand up guy.

Having said that I'll say that every rider that earns a paycheck on Saturday should leave the track with money in his hand.  There is no excuse...end of discussion...period.

Most logical comment in this entire thread. If MX sports had the ability to take a riders entry fee on site prior to the race, then they have the ability to cut a check to riders on site at the end of the day.  IMG 4746 7

Classic…first picture that came to mind when someone mentioned checks being paid that day no matter what…😂😂😂

Was Soul Indago the dude who said he was a former pro and was racing local races in Thailand ? If so he looked like a 40 year old Vet C rider in his videos.

This forum improved tremendously when GuyB left. I’ll take ML any day of the week. Dude’s much more pleasant to talk to.
