I’ve heard that triumph is only going to be running one 250 next year. To me this is crazy if your a new brand trying to expand your image. I’m a big fan and they had a great 4 man team that didn’t pan out last year but you gotta have bikes out there and 1 250 supercross rookie seems like a major failure to me. The only thing I can think of that they might try keep the 450 in house and farm out the 250 program to a team in 2028. If that’s the case it’s understandable and I think could be a better option.
Might be opening things up for Reed/Jordan and Carmichael Triumph Racing Team would be my guess. 🧐
I hope they can stick around.
If Sacha has to sit out a round or two Triumph probably wins the Mx2 title this year. Whatever they're doing in the MXGP at least, it works. I hope they can sign good guys for next years in the US. Swoll looked really good sometimes but it's really hard to judge a team when the riders are permanently out/injured.. And I don't believe Smith would be better on any other bike. The more teams/spots, the better, that's for sure. But they need some consistent riders to build and get dialed in imo.
Most I’ve seen of Triumph all year was today.
I've seen maybe 2 between Oklahoma and Texas. Are they selling any bikes?

My brother has one…the 450….really good bike….I’d buy one if I was in the market for a 450…
They've had the most success by far racing MX2 in Europe. Wouldn't be surprised if they reduced the budget in series where they haven't done well, and focused on where they do best.
It sucks because by all accounts the bikes are great. I know the 250 mxgp team is not a factory triumph team they farmed it out so that may be why they want to do that here too. Racing is hard, if you could just win right away everyone would do it, hope they dont get discouraged.
Matthes was talking about how the usa team got off on a really bad foot with bobby hewitt and everybody was clashing personalities and then bobby left but some of his guys were still there. Now they have jeremy coker in charge so theyre basically starting over again. I hope nothing but the best, the bikes look good and the more brands the better.
I believe the mx2 triumphs aren’t legal to race in the US. Farres said that a few weeks ago.
But that’s a private team, not factory Triumph
Read somewhere they are using a different frame in MXGP.
Isn't it a little early to be talking about Triumph riders for 2027?
I heard you gotta pull the transmission and polish/shim/align it to get it to shift... Sounds like a bike everyone should buy 😂
Its the factory effort, just ran by a team that already existed. Just like yamaha does over there.
I heard the Triumph MX2 team is running different frames and some other things that they can’t run in the US, maybe that’s the difference? They also should’ve kept Jordon Smith on a 250 in SX at least, they would’ve had some podiums and possible wins again this year if they did that. Running just one guy next year on a 250 seems like a dumb move, if they’re going to do that they might as well give Jalek another shot since he pretty much put them on the map the first year and showed that that bike is capable.
This thread reminds me of a caller on one of the podcasts that basically said “Triumph has no racing accolades, why would this be any different?”
I don’t follow motoGP or wherever else they may be racing but that stuck with me. It actually seems like venturing into motocross has raised their racing accolades of that’s the case.
they supply a solid motor to moto2. 140hp out of 765cc triple. theyre in and around the paddock there. their supersport chassis is old but has had success in the past. their corporate seems to be a mess, so who knows, but it seems like cokah is cleaning house and being given some runway to start over rather than float around in 10th indefinitely.
I've only seen a few at most around here so far. Cycle trader shows quite a few dealers with 24's n 25's forsale. With huge discounts like kawie does.
It is interesting they started out good with Swoll etc that first year and then fired everyone and brought over the dude from Star. Just fired some more people so changes are being made. That is a good sign unlike JGR for example, who kept the same leadership until they disappeared with poor results throughout.
Pit Row
Triumph is not a huge company like the Japanese brands, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they shrank their racing budget by focusing on the region that’s enjoying the most success. Any interested US buyers will still pony up the bucks if Triumph is “only” winning titles in MXGP.
They need to market an “all new transmission” and give it a solid year with little to no issues. All their transmission problems being so public has really hurt their sales in my opinion. I was very close to buying a new Triumph 450 but went with KTM instead because of the transmission problems. I personally know of shift fork failures, and that’s something I don’t want to deal with.
Exactly my situation as well. Went with new KTM 450.
Not touching that bike until they water proofed controls and wiring, and more important fixed the transmission. Know way to many people not being able to ride or race due to bike sitting with known issues.
If they fix the transmission and clutch issues, I’d buy one in a heartbeat
As soon as they fix transmission problems that might sell more bikes. New frame they running mxgp seems great. US operation.. all i seen so far been Haarup on 450f
NO
I'm in the same boat in that I would really consider buying one but their issues and the lack of support from the dealership to fix said issues keep me away from what otherwise appears to be a great bike. I don't understand how they would let these issues get to market for a new brand with everything on the line, I mean this is where their reputation begins.
Looks to me like somebody cooked the numbers of their market research and projected sales.
And depending on racing to sell bikes is old planning."win on sunday, sell on monday" has not been true for years, probably since about the time they actually stopped racing on sundays.
You think there will be a yellow tide because Roczen won the sx title this year?
Now add inhow hard it is to keep a rider in contention for a title for an entire series. Pc was on their way to a title, then seth is out. Looked like honda's turn. Opps. . Jo is out....
Looks like it is down to davies and kitchen now.
Hell, they could crash together and ryder d wins the title. Think husky sales would go up?
Now add in the buzz about transmission issues that triumph will not admit or repair, and yeah, smells like bbqed bikes to me.
Idk I think one championship with 1 guy on a suzuki doesnt sell a lot of bikes, but making a good bike and winning a lot sure worked out for ktm… and now yamaha. Those are the 2 most popular bikes now. Its not the only thing but I think sustained success throughout multiple classes and championships sells bikes.
Worked out great for KTM. They went broke and now they’re an Indian company. Speaking of broke, ask Lucas Coenen and Prado about reliability since the Indian takeover. There’s a lot more to making money selling bikes than just winning races.
If KTM didn’t buy/make Huskys and GasGas bike, along with whatever mtn bike company maybe they wouldn’t have went broke?
As some one who races dirt bikes 20-25 weekends a year in multiple disciplines, I have yet to see a Triumph 450 in person in the Northeast. Obviously i know they are out there but this speaks volumes to me. The 250 on the other hand seems to be a pretty damn good bike and has peaked my interest. If the brand is still around in 2028 and thriving, I think I will buy one.
