I’m about done with all the back and forth about what’s his name and Jett, so how about a bit of appreciation for the number 96?!
Just a round ago Hunter achieved something no one has has; going 1-1 against his brother, then this week he straight up runs Jett down and pulls away. Second moto he goes from sixth to the front via a couple of laps that were very reminiscent of a true Tomac Beast Mode, i.e. he drops his lap times to several seconds faster than anyone else and absolutely charges to the front.
If this performance was by just about anyone else, people would be making a big noise about it.
I’ve got a funny feeling Hunter likes it this way though.

He was on rails today. And the turn down over the leap was awesome.
Hunta is still improving, amazing as that sounds.
But, he's still his own worst enemy with that tip over on the last lap of moto 1 handing the win to Jett. He blew the SX title with unforced errors.
Minimize the unforced errors and he can win every race, just believe it Hunta. ☝️
Hunter is a class act. Good to see him step out of the shadow of his brother, and prove his SX success wasn’t a fluke!
Hunta is everybody’s favorite Lawrence

Obviously massively happy for Hunter and better him beating Jett than you know who, however listening to Jett's post race interview you can see how much his ankle is still affecting him mentally and physically. But yes Hunter has found a new level at just the right time and no one else is even close at the moment.
Hunta has a few things to clean up, but the tip over this time was a freak occurrence - sand, mud, and/or a rock wedged into the chain guide as he was making the turn. you can see the wheel lock just as he accelerated out of the turn....
I think we can put to bed the "that might be his only chance at a title" that was said after the supercross season. Dude is a top tier rider and has gotten better every season.
Hunter Dungey!!
I hold the opinion that Hunter will straight up beat Jett for multiple titles over the course of their combined careers. Jett’s big brother is a bad dude.
I feel he is going to win this outdoor title ie like AC did after losing his SX title. Think Hunter will be lethal in 27 SX series too.
Its great to see after nearly giving it all away.
Jett is insane, and could be the best to ever do it. But I always felt that Hunter hadn’t hit his peak, while Jett was already close to his. Hunter is finding his flow and speed, and Jett is now having to learn how to keep his lightning pace up for the full moto. Should be a great summer, but holidays could get awkward.
The broadcast was so disrespectful of Hunter. He tracks down Jett and immediately passes him and JT goes straight to Jett’s foot.
Yea, JT’s obsession with Jett was unbearable right from the start. I’m sure he’s doing everything to get him in Fly gear.
I'm glad Hunter backed High Point up. Felt like all the conversations after the last round were about Jett vs Deegz and Prado's performance. Meanwhile Hunter was basially out of sight.
After the race, there was loads of 'Jett just settled into a pace, look how easy it was to for him to pick it up when deegan started closing' and I got downvoted for saying Jett would have been further up the track battling his brother if he really had a lot more speed in the tank but people seem to be convinced he's happy to just give Hunter wins. I think we can put that theory to bed after his reaction to Moto 1 at red bud.
Excited to see the Lawrence battles for the rest of the season. Brothers or no, it's gonna be intense! Also, anyone painting a target on Jett's back and looking straight past Hunter might want to reassess. This guy's hard to beat and will be in every championship fight indoors and out for the foreseeable. Everyone's always wanted to know just how fast Jett can go at his best, and it might be big bro that finally pulls it out of him
A couple weeks ago it was Jett Lawrence is back and there's nothing anyone can do about it. After 2 straight wins by Hunter, it's Jett can't ride to his potential because of his ankle.
Which one is it gentlemen?
Personally I think Hunter is here to stay and he's now everyone's problem, including his brother.
I don't know why everyone keeps talking about Jett and his foot, he was obviously having issues with the bike yesterday. In his interview after the first moto, he said something about the bike and immediately caught himself and took the blame off of it.
well then go on and watch the press conference. Oddly enough, there was no mentioning of bike issues anymore but only talking about his foot. He really doubled down on it like never before. "I have to ride with one leg" "having to work twice a hard" "could go so much faster" etc.
I was surprised. I would understand a reaction like that if Deegan was the one who beat him, but like even if its true, let your brother have his moment and dont make him feel like "you only won cause of.."
Ah, missed that. Stopped watching the post-race press conferences when they stopped doing the whole podium as a panel.
Pit Row
He likes him a lot that’s for sure…..
I had the same "looks like a Tomac ride" thoughts. The way he gained time on the next guy after a pass was unreal. I wonder if we are seeing a brotherly role reversal here on who's the fastest. Tends to happen with people that train together all the time. They are definitely taking it to another level together.
Hunter just might do it this season. He's certainly looking good right now!
I realize Jett's injury situation is clouding his speed a bit. At times he's looked like his old self and other times not. But at High Point Hunter really was impressive, no matter what. And then to put in that performance that he did, this weekend, that's impressive. So regardless of Jett's status, I think Hunter has really set out to prove that he is right there to compete with his brother, even at 100%. And 96 has pretty much cleared Deegs all year so far too, which I honestly thought Deegs would be getting the better of him here and there. So yeah, not sure what else to say about him. He's continued to get better, he was awesome in SX and has really made a statement so far, in Outdoors. Good for him.
I still believe if all is equal Jett would be ahead of Hunter. However it’s also obvious that Hunter has elevated himself to the point where Jett will only beat him if he’s able to ride at his full capability.
Having said all that Hunter still makes mistakes here and there that Jett rarely does. Is that just Hunter running occasionally a tad beyond his limits, or something else?
I finally watched Red Bud tonight.
1 st moto I notices Jetts right foot coming off the peg quite a bit. Looks awkward as heck. Im sure that is a big hindrance on his riding potential.
Deegs looked fine on a track that he hasn't ever dominated on. The ruts looked gnarly.
Hunter looked fine all around. Confident and smooth. Noticed one time over the leep that it appeared he used a move from superbikers where he stuck his left leg out to catch some wind and slow up his bike mid air. Havent seen that yet.
Prado seems to struggle with passing lines during the races. Seems to also drop anchor towards the end of motos.
Definitely has the speed to win one.
The 4 of those guys are all on the top tier.
Marchbanks and RJ on that next level along with Pleasinger when he is able to keep that black cat from crossing him all too often.
Add Lucas into the mix next week and you have 5 guys that are capable of moto wins.
It's good to see Hunter have two solid race weekends back to back. I feel like that was his issue in Supercross. He would have one good race, then a bad race, then a good race, but he couldn't keep stringing together good races. I didn't think Hunter could beat Jett straight up, but Millville last year showed me he could do it. I really hope Jett makes a full recovery and returns to his winning ways, but for now I'm stoked for Hunter.
Last year, when Tomac couldn't get around Hunter, it opened my eyes to just how good he was.
Tomac is going full Tomac and there's Hunter, just as smooth as can be, keeping him at bay with ease.
