Just occurred to me today how incredibly lucky the motocross community is to have the journalists we do. (and this doesn't include me).
Trust me, tracking down interviews, tromping around moto tracks in every imaginable weather condition, shooting and editing video, endless hours on the phone and at the laptop.Dealing with industry attitude at every level you can imagine. It's one of the toughest jobs in the industry.
And why do they do it? You're damn straight it's not for the money. Most people think it's a gravy job, but it's the opposite. If you don't have an insatiable love for all things moto you won't last a week.
So hats off to Coombs, Weisel, GuyB, Cox, Weigandt, Izer and Kelly, Matthes, Maeda, Lewis, Eric Johnson, Tom Webb, and the legends of years past like Miller, Hertfelder, Krause, Seimen, the other Cox (Ketchup), Clipper, Kariya, And all the guys I grew up reading and all the guys I forgot to mention.
Probably more than journalists they are the ultimate moto fans.

The biggest illusion you can have in this industry is that you can jump in and make a bunch of money writing about motocross and taking photos. But at the same time the opportunities are limitless. That's why these guys bust their ass night and day.

GuyB, isn't this how you started out?
you get to ride all the bikes you can cram into your garage.
your wife/gf will hate you because you have more gear than she has fancy clothes and you take up more closet space.
your home always smells like new leather and new plastic.
you are a god to the local kids due to your never ending supply of stickers.
one of the things that i've seen slowly disappear is the relationships between the writers and the riders.
we used to be able to plop down on the tailgate of a truck and talk with riders.
or pick up the phone and call them at home.
two things happened: the money for riders got bigger and Don Jones came along.
he was the first guy to bring out a little mini motorhome to the races.
before that, riders really had nowhere to hide. cab of the pickup was about the only spot.
now we have never-slept-in, 44 foot, multi pop-out, dualie tag rear axle estates with two bathrooms and a fireplace.
....with a doorbell.

You have been one of the kindest and most supportive people behind our fledgling effort. It's much appreciated, sir.
Also, seeing your passion, on and off the track, while pursuing Moto East was very cool to see. I've always considered you part of the media, and proudly so. Your passion speaks for itself.
wow you guys are just like the majority of the racers that follow the series!.........bad business people! but hey thanks for the interviews!
