Social media is the modern day version of tobacco companies. Twitter and Facebook and Instagram are the 21st century versions of Camel, Marlboro, and Winston cigarette brands. Eventually we will realize how unhealthy social media really is. It’s marketed to children in much the same way cigarette companies glamorized tobacco products.

While I think his posts are a a bit too polarizing, what gets me is the comments. It just becomes “these people are your allies” and it is pretty ugly

I think, lol Just to make my position more clear, I'm open to discussion on any subject but when people are obviously set in their opinions and are only arguing their point to piss off the other side, I say my peace and move on. I see the same people posting the same fake/half truth mems over and over to support their opinion(both ends of the spectrum) that it's not worth being involved unless you just like the bickering. My opinion, of course.

Edit: The following is based on a misread post haha I understand now after reading again Slip was talking about being anti-mask but I still mean the rest of it haha I agree with everything you wrote (and can't really remember ever not agreeing with anything you've written) but I think part of the problem in society these days is 'you aren't going to change my mind' if we all weren't so stuck in our own beliefs and what we see as 'right' and having an open mind and didn't see changing our mind as weakness then maybe we wouldn't...

My entire social media feed, except maybe Nerd, is filled with anti-maskers and COVID-hoaxers. I don't get it, but I have a customer in the bio lab industry that filled me in back in Jan-Feb before all this went down and so far he was dead on and I trust him more than the media/social media. If I don't agree I just ignore and move on because you aren't going to change my mind and I won't try to change yours. As long as we have dirt bikes, we're cool...

I've never missed not listening to something I didn't want to listen to. Like turning the dial past an AM station in a language I don't know. Especially if I am after trivial content like sports. Sometimes, however, it is important to hear things that contradict my positions, or even things I just don't want to hear. At least if I aspire to be a responsible citizen among fellow citizens. I'd never tell Ping or Matthes or whomever not to speak their minds. The First Amendment is the greatest American ideal in my opinion. If someone's thoughts on an issue...
