Just started riding my new 2026 YZ450F. Having trouble with top of my boot hooking under the little black extension piece on the left side panel when I try and move my foot forward to shift. Anyone else having this issue? Know of a solution? The Google makes it seem like I’m the only guy having this problem.

Youre not the only one. I have yet to purchase anything, but for my wife (she has a '25 YZ 250F), we bought a set of Acerbis frame guards. They have a large contact area and prevent her boots from hanging up. She had a huge slam last year because her boot got hung up on the bolt and she couldnt get it un-stuck. I have had several issues with my boots hanging up on the bolt as well, just haven't tried a remedy. It would be neat to try to 3D print a little snap on plastic cover that you could maybe zip-ty onto the subframe.
YES!!!!
Ha ha, yes. Second ride yesterday on a 2026 WR250F with previous gen Tech 7’s. It looks like they are catching on a little plastic ridge at the top of the boot when I stand on my heel and rotate my toe outwards.
I’m going to try some duct tape to see if that works.
I have a set of Gaerne G-Reacts that are a few mm taller that I don’t think will be an issue.
It happens to me occasionally on my ‘25 YZ250f, especially when leaving the face of a jump. For some reason it’s always the left side.
It always causes a moment of panic when I can’t move my foot, but I’ve learned to recognize it & unhook my boot.
I wear Gaerne SG-12s for what it’s worth.
I’d love to hear if there is a good solution for this issue…

I have a 2026 yz450. I wear size 11 Fox Instincts and I’m having this problem as well. When hitting the face of a jump my boots are hooking and locking in. I tried works connection 5mm down and back pegs but it didn’t help at all they actually might have made it worse. I need a solution!
There is a guy here on Vital that 3D prints stuff and has asked if anyone has good ideas for things to 3D print. This would seem to be the niche product that he is looking for! I don't remember who he is...
I have a 3D printer also, working on a solution. Stand by.
I don’t have a yz, so I don’t know specifics. If it’s actually a bolt causing the hang-up, couldn’t a low profile bolt replace it? One of a different drive type if needed.
It's not a bolt, at least not on the '26. It's the small side number plate extension that bolts to the subframe.
I believe Star was having this issue when they switched to the 2026 frame, especially with CW2. His fix was to stick with the 2025 frame for 2026 SX. Well known issue, should be lots of workarounds out there?
I have the same issue on our 24 kx250 with size 11 alpinestars tech 7, I haven’t noticed it on the 25 kx250 we have. Odd feeling that’s for sure, and that’s coming from a slow old guy.
Here’s version 1.0. I’ll test it this week. Looks a little industrial but I’m more worried about function.

Which bolt is she getting caught on?
Ooooooh, that’s the spot!
The lower bolt at the subframe mount. This is the same area I get hung up on. I wear Fox Instinct boots, and I think the hinge area hangs up. I remember the first time I rode her bike and I got hung up on that bolt 3 times the first lap. I never said anything to her because I didnt want to psych her out about it. Probably her 3rd time riding we were at a track we always go to, and she got hung up in a faster double double section and got slammed because she couldn't get her boot un-stuck in time. Not good.
Replace the bolt with a button head?
Could you take a heat gun to that area and curl it in a bit?

There are several of us with 3D printers, and high end 3D CAD software, and are mechanical engineers by trade. I may to look into this also.
I've not had this issue with my sg10's or sg12's, but I would definitely try a button head like seemefirst posted.
It’s not the bolt. It’s the edge of the actual side panel.
When you’re riding on the balls of your feet & drop your heels a bit up the face, the top edge of the boot hooks under the horizontal edge of the side panel near the rear shock reservoir.
I think that's on the 26+ bikes, he's talking about the 23-25 side panel bikes.
Mine is specifically a ‘25. The boot catches on the panel itself, not a bolt. The 3d printed piece shown earlier in the thread is attempting to extend the lower edge of that panel to fix the issue.
