I remember the good old days of no ez ups and the track crew turns the firehose on the willing crowd to keep them cool. And a few select young ladies put on a show and drew disproportionate attention from the guy with the hose.

$587 for a family of 5 with pit passes and better VIP parking at Millville this year. My kids get to cruise the pits to grab random goodies and probably talk with the PC guys and others. All day event playing in the creek, super deals at the FXR booth, and other activities on par with a summer carnival/festival plus the best racers in the world ripping Mt. Martin. Trying to embrace the good instead of constantly bitching about everything.

For another perspective, we’re also going to a White Sox vs. Dodgers game next Sunday. $400 not including parking for a 3hr game with mediocre tickets and zero chance of chatting with Shohei or watching battling practice. Also, avoiding car theft and murder in Chicago is a bonus game to play.

The EZ-UP issue seems to be mostly/only a California thing.   I recall the fight stories and videos over EZ-UPs along the track back in the GH days.  I've been to Nationals all over the country and don't recall seeing the EZ-UP phenomenon anywhere but CA.   I think most of the other ones specifically say "no EZ UPs" on the event flyers or tickets.   I get it, Pala and Hangtown don't have shade within 100 miles, but the whole concept of tying your EZ-UP to the fence to claim real estate is ridiculous.

Freestone had the same issue.  It was unwatchable unless you paid to be in one of the VIP areas or you just wanted to see a small slice of the track.

Used to be able to walk up to the ticket window at Anaheim and San Diego sx and get nose bleed tickets for 20 bucks, for years haha

I did that at Petco in 2019 and 2020 and got really good tickets for $65 or so. No service or convenience fee bs. The same or worse tickets are $97ea at AT&T stadium. Seems a lot of newer stadiums don’t even have a box office? At least football stadiums

Yup. Even at local big events here, I see them left behind. I don't know if they forget, too drunk, lazy, etc? I know some will get destroyed by wind if not anchored down, but yea, some just leave them. 😂

That is crazy to me! I mean I’ve seen them on sale for $99-$150 but that’s a lot to just leave behind. Wth 😁

Not sure where your seats are but you can get tickets for $40-50.

I see people leave EZ ups at the beach often.. Usually they are leaving them if they have a bent pole or something, but single use sometimes also.

Way I see it is I go to 1 or 2 pro races a year. Is it expensive? Yes, but this isn’t an every weekend thing. It’s a special treat for me that only happens 2/52 weekends. I just try to enjoy it reasonably.

you're not wrong but the prisoner's dilemma that occurrs when everyone has this mindset means all events get more expensive. Lifetime bought up all the bicycle races and doubled the entry fees, and people pay them bc they only do one or two big races a year. this led to smaller, local promoters raising their entry fees too. so now, people race less and fields are smaller, leading to lower quality racing.

similar thing has happened with concerts. same thing with formula 1. same thing with any high-demand tourist location.

people collectively are too willing to overpay once or twice and it emboldens the promoters.

At Hangtown folks would stake out a claim with an EZ up two days before the race (Day 1 of 3, 3 pro day) and temporarily remove the canopy so the wind wouldn't catch it. The earlier folks are willing to to queue up like that the more popular the event is. They have areas they allow the EZ up, and areas where they don't.

Well, there's a solution to everyone bitching about the prices. Go buy 300 acres of land, buy the insurance and every other fkng permit needed, have it pass the local council, have the ambulances on stand by, have the security paid, pay employees, pay the electric and water, buy the tractors and fuel needed and THEN build a national caliber track. Then...charge $40 per person and see how much money you make.

all that is moot unless MX Sports' power is reduced. feel free to do the same exercise with raising a promoting body from scratch. this sounds a little like the pro-censorship ppl crying "private company - go make your own" when people were complaining about getting banned on twitter for questioning the jab narrative.

i get it's hard, but if the whole thing is either a VIP zone or a tent city, it's also moot. progressively lower attendance + reactive price hikes are a feedback loop that will kill the model also.

Remember when fans used to yell and wave on the racers? Now its all a bunch of fat dudes with air-horns honking over eachother.. don't forget the empty VIP areas blasting the worst "music" you've ever heard.. and that you have to walk the long way around them to get anywhere..

Don't get me started on the canopies..

It’s on the promoter to police the ez up nonsense. Selling a product ( the race ) with the knowledge a lot of your customers are going to have decidedly limited viewing possibilities due to the selfish actions of others is somewhat disingenuous.
It’s not like they don’t know it’s going to happen. Those things shouldn’t be allowed.

I have seen ezups set at the lowest setting on a side of a hill and they can still sit in portable chairs under them and people uphill behind them can still see.

It was interwsting at Hangtown this year.  No EZ ups allowed on the lower part of the west side. We got there at 7 30 AM and there's already 15 EZ ups blocking the view for potentially hundreds of people.  Several 12 by 12 EZ ups had 2 people under them.  Track staff got some of them to move, but it literally took multiple sheriff's deputies coming down several times to get some of the jackasses to take down their EZ ups.  Got to hear some great dialogs/arguments, haha.  Those EZ ups are ridiculous at an event with limited viewing and sightlines.  Alot of inconsiderate people put there sadly

Seeing a race in person is the best way to appreciate the TV broadcast. Once was enough.

That is so wrong about Lifetime.  Racing has never been better or bigger in the US for gravel and MTB.....and Lifetime has a lot to do with that, along with NICA.

A beer that is 20 times more costly then if he bought it at the grocery store and was allowed to bring it in.

Following along that line of thinking...don't allow fans to bring in air horns....BUT...do sell them at the track for $2000 that fans can "enjoy".

Sounds reasonable eh?
