My current bike got me thinking about this. It adds up quicker than you realize.
What year is your bike, what bike is it, and how much have you spent to trick it out, set it up, etc?
Not counting wear items but actual replacement to modify or tailor to you. Wear items will count if you changed it because you wanted specific stuff such as “your tires” or whatever sprockets etc
My current bike
2006 yz450f cost me $4k
$950 in suspension set up
$950 in clamps and bar mounts
$70 for a chain
$40 bucks for a few spare filters
Luckily had a set of bars for it, $25 for grips and had take off tires from another bike but let’s say $200 for tires
that’s 2235 in add ons so that’s 6235 total into it and that’s not exactly a radical build.
I know some of my previous bikes had to be way more than I realized.
Curious how much some of you have into them, it may be eye opening lol. I know it was for me.
Enough to make 4 or 5 mortgage payments
Lmao it goes quick doesn’t it. Thing looks sick!
Not so much the bike for me just what I paid and minimal upgrades maybe $150 in grips, numbers, and a seat cover. It’s everything else, my camper, truck to pull it, and paying for hookups and fuel.
I got about $5k into this ‘04 RM 250 build. I loved my YZ but this thing is very YZish and fully built to my liking. This bike reminds me that dirt bike technology has made some strides but not as far as you think (for 2 strokes anyway).

Right at about 1.15 M, after the wife told me not to do it, but I did anyway. That’s how much the straw that broke the camel’s back cost me.

No,additional parts purchased……or needed
About 8k into the kx500 so far and haven't even rode it. The other 5 bikes? Idk I've lost count....
Pretty much the only upgrades I make to my bike are controls; bars, grips, levers, sometimes footpegs, or suspension if the spring rates are way off. If there's an obvious flaw with the design of the bike or a stock part that is sub par that an aftermarket product can fix I'll get that too.
Sometimes I might get some bigger items if I can find them on sale or a good deal on some used ones.
I'll also get numbers if I'm gonna race it
I refuse to add up what I spend on bikes, entry and race fees, gear, any of it. It’s undoubtedly an outlandish number but moto is second, only to my family, of the things that keep me sane in an insane world.
I don’t even want to think about it lol. Too damn much but it makes me happy!
Bought in Sept of ‘13 with 2 hrs on it for $4,500. Bike is a 2011 in 2015-2021 plastics. Nickel plated bolt kit, lots of carbon & some Ti here & there. Wanted myself a “Factory Edition” YZ250 and I’ve got it
It's kind of interesting because 1 of my prior bikes I started putting $ into it, to get it where I wanted, but just wasn't happy with it. Bought this YZF new because I already knew I liked it. I even told my wife "I know I'm happy with this, stock, so any upgrades that I do are just small tweaks or for fun." A couple seasons have passed and I have way more into it than I ever planned on. But it's been really good the whole time, so I don't mind it in that case. But at this point, it's a typical vet-rider YZF. Dual injector and a lot of titanium that I don't need. Controls are all changed to get a better rider triangle. It was all worth it. It's perfect for me.
I balled out a little bit with my 25 KX250. Paid like $7700 OTD for it.
X Trig Clamps (used)- $300
52T Tear Sprocket - $70
FasterUSA Rear Wheel w MX14 - $700 total?
Guts Tall seat- $180
Pro Circuit Ti Exhaust - $1200
Twin Air Airbox Kit - $200ish?
Twisted Development tuned Vortex ECU - $1100
Number plate graphics - $100
Modified Stock Pegs - $180
Got about 30 hours on it now, so probably going to do new plastics and graphics soon. All in all, I’ve never been comfier on a dirtbike so it’s money well spent for me.
eric513anderson :" I don’t even want to think about it lol. Too damn much but it makes me happy! "
And, that's all that counts.
When I just address my ownership of the CRE , for now 24+ years, and Big Mileage and Use, the Money aspect of it is pretty bloody low / insignificant.
But, as I've made so much of it, it's priceless to me.
Two things that have cost me far too much money, and, have been Garbage, is the Smartcarb , and, the Quebecois POS E Start. Those added up to a fair few K AUD.
But, other things - I've fed it about 6 / 8 std pistons, as I and some mates had spares kit ones from previous bikes, then, had I to go to a .5mm OS piston. I've an entire bottom end rebuild kit ready and waiting, but, I reckon I might die with it. Though , I'm always on the lookout for a WR 3rd, 4th, 5th gearset ( but Not from the aforementioned Quebec mob!). The Ohlins PDS shock, WPCC forks and Brembo front brake and Clutch MC ( well, that was FOC) used for the LHRB, really came pretty affordably. There was just the time involved to fit / make other parts to allow their use. I've picked up a lot of KTM parts through friends, for free, or buggerall that have found their way onto the Old Beastie. I'm also lucky as I get most parts, at Trade prices, after being so long in the industry.
I've other bikes, but this is the most important one to me. Well, other than 2 Ducatis I hope to finally make over the next 2 years, One a 900 engine base ( though I'm hoping to snaffle an 1100DS engine) , with my own frame etc, to be a Ride Everywhere / All The Time Bike, the other, a full TT2, I'll Not be using my own frame and swingarm for that one, but the Verlicchi units I've had in storage for many, many years. That bike will be a 705cc ( a really neat combo of 600 crank and 750 pistons, that Revs to the Moon, Baby!) With all the NCR bits I've accumulated, my Ducati specialist mate reckons it will sell for well above, 40K AUD. I hope not to sell it, but, it's money to be had, and, I can only ride the one Ducati at a time - and, I've my mates entire stable of the bloody things to pick from when I want some variety, or, to scare the crap out of myself on at SMP .....😁
Whatever it is, don't tell my wife.
Too much, I don't like to think about it. Some years ago, I kept receipts for all things moto related, I added it all up after the season was over, and I about vomited in my mouth. So, to make it better, I don't look at it anymore. lol
Ugh...
Goals. Dang.
Haha, I suppose...if having a mental illness is a goal of yours 🤣. But seriously, I'm very thankful and fortunate to have a gargage full of bikes and be healthy enough to enjoy them! We only live once.
Pit Row
Guy is doing his own shootouts. That's wild.
Damn Bro. Not sure what to say. It’s good to be you.
Dang lmao. I don’t need to see your w-2 lol
The next time my wife complains about my stable of bikes I'm showing her this!
Haha I'm just messing because I tend to spend quite a bit on my hobby and it's pretty damn silly.
I put A-Kit on my YZ250 at 0 hours... Which I am now removing to try some JBI DIY stuff in my stock (still 0 hour) suspension.
Several pipes, silencers, VHM head+ several inserts, wheels, graphics, VFORCE reeds, jets, maintenance stuff (tires every 10-15 hours!), chains/guides, brakes, etc... it goes on and on and on.
I couldn't possibly add all that up because frankly, I don't want to know.
The first rule of Upgrade Club is dont talk about how much we spent on Upgrade Club.
Hey AH387, you do know that saying your bike is “perfect for you “ is secret squirrel MX code for “I will be getting a new bike within 3 months “…….
JFC... why? Do you ride them all? Which one's your favourite?
I have a KTM 300 XCW that I have a cost of bike with suspension upgrades and a few bit and pieces $5500 . My vintage racer 1979 YZ250 I have nearly the same. Montesa trials bike surpasses both.
This thread is a bad idea 🤣
$6235 really isn’t that bad
I added up how much I’ve put into my MTB yesterday and it was definitely more than that - and I have to pedal it 🥲
