What are the chances that Hunter is worse off than it may appear?
Gasoline exposure to genital skin can lead to pain, irritation, redness, and blisters. While small, quick splashes often evaporate without incident, prolonged contact—such as wet clothing holding the fuel against the skin—can cause first or second-degree burns.
I have no doubt that Hunter was distracted by the race gas in his groin area. The dude was making a tonne of mistakes out there.
A bad night for Hunter just may get worse...
Meanwhile. Ken and his kickstart had a fantastic evening.
Both these dudes will make a worthy Champion
At least with Hunter, if he has any fuel burn he’ll say.
He did say after the race to JT that the fuel was the least of his problems. Had to be a distraction though. Something was definitely up with his goggles.
Lucky he didn’t get it in his eyes. If my memory serves me right, Levi Kitchen had a similar issue at Ironman MX a few years back and it was splashing / burning his you know what’s
I've experienced it. I pulled off after a few turns. Burned like hell.
Got t4 all over my seat and uhhh yea I knew pretty quickly haha

i've never had this happen to me (spilling gas) but while watching I kept thinking "Are you guys sure that we should let a rider that is actively being splashed with a highly flammable liquid keep racing?"
this isn't an issue that should bring a black flag? I mean, there's flame throwers all over that stadium for the pre-race stuff...seems like something REALLY bad could happen?
I was really surprised that Hunter didn’t change clothes as soon as the race ended. I’d have bee-lined it to the motorhome from the finish, changed, then come back for interviews.
I’ve had the vent hose come loose during a desert race, it takes 15-20 minutes for it to start really burning, but the pain ramps up quickly once you’re soaked. Hurt for a couple of weeks..
I know a guy who inhaled pro 6 when the vent hose blew off during a moto and shot hot fuel under his helmet into his mouth and nose.
No chemical burns, but he puked for a while.
Years back I had a hole in my street bike gas tank and I thought I was getting stung in the nuts by hornets until I saw it was gas. It fucking sucked.
Well at least they’re not making them jump through a ring of fire like at their other circus act, so the risk of being engulfed in flames isn’t quite as bad…
You’ll get mass downvoted for this but you have a point. Ref should be watching for obvious safety concerns and this was one, but the masses would say you aren’t core if you take safety seriously
Might be a good thing he didn't win. "Light the candles" could've taken on a whole new meaning 🔥😱
You're not cool unless you pee your pants!
Back in the late 80s I was a little kid pumping gas into my aunt's Plymouth Barracuda, and it back splashed all over me and my clothes. That shit burnt my skin and was irritated for a while. I can only imagine what that factory race gas feels like.
Hell, how many times have we seen sparks kick up from the foot pegs or something dragging a rock…that could’ve been way way worse
One day out trailbuilding I forgot to re cap the chainsaw after filling it up and soaked my pants thoroughly. Everything was fully soaked, so ended patting everything dry as I could with toilet paper and as both layers were still damp and making the ouchies in my groinal areas, I made a toilet paper sanitary pad to walk outa the bush back to the wagon. Oh my lanta, the gas it burns and it stings
Womens, I hear you, and I respects you
This is the Pro125 origin story
Pit Row
Had a friend that I raced with as a kid, he had an late 80's Italjet 50cc that no matter what they did, always leaked fuel from the gas cap onto his juevos. His poor mother always had a large bottle of baby powder waiting on the tailgate just in case he exited the race early and was headed to the pits in a hot hurry!
I'd have to think it must not have hit him. Even if he forced himself to finish the race, he would have ridden mach 3 back to the Alpinestars rig to get hosed down afterward.
This could be the case. If it was bad, then you'd think that the team would have sent him back to the pits immediately.
I dont think he was having fun but with the amount that was splashing out it was probably evaporating on his clothes before it had time to really soak in.
Its happened in GNCC quite a few times at pit stops, I know Stu Baylor got it really bad one time, he keeps a big towel on his crotch during pit stops now.
I know why the broadcast would want to pull Hunter aside for an interview but maybe just this one time they would have let him ride back to the pits as quickly as possible so he could do a post race crotch cool down.
I assume there are multiple fire extinguishers along the track and qualified workers have quick access to them in case something did catch fire.....right....or no
just find it interesting that at this level of the sport, in front of millions of fans, they'll let a guy ride a dirt bike while his gas cap is busted and he's getting blasted with caustic flammable liquids. Our sport is wild sometimes. and yeah, he slides out on the concrete, his peg sparks and BOOM, Hunta becomes a hand grenade on national TV. Sorta similar to letting guys race with no goggles. One pebble away from a rider going blind - not a good look for Feld.
I was thinking after he had another tip over that he could have easily put the hose back on after he picked the bike up right before he took off again. Would have taken little to no extra time.
I was wondering if the hose is a part that mechanics routinely have in their backpacks. Seems it would have taken 3s for them to insert a new one....but I suppose that's the answer to my question: nope.
You win your titles on your roughest races. I was saying to my son, "If Hunter loses this championship, it will be because of this race. If he wins it, it will DEFINITELY be because of this race!"
I'm impressed that he kept going, through the distractions and the second crash.
Teams will now be clamping the hose to the gas cap
I have done that more than once, but without an SX series on the line.
You would think a factory team would have something that didnt come off... only needs a twist of lockwire .
That said, shit happens.
