Regret watching that for sure
One of our local tracks, Beans Rd Raceway. I broke my leg there in 2023..lol. This track is just down the road from where Brock Sellards lives, so it has some history as where our most famous local pro did some of his training.
Fairly sure the kid in the clip had a rough time, but did eventually make a full recovery.
He bailed right? Why on Earth would you bail?
Oof. That one hurt from my couch, lol.

The last thing you would want to do is part ways with the scoot.
Dude had some balls that’s for sure, pretty sure I would’ve held on and at least used a little bit of that suspension up tho
As TK said, its Beans Bike Park in Ohio. Little over an hour from me. Its a fun place. Pretty big track layout. We're pretty lucky in ohio, alot of places to ride. That being said, I hope that guy made a full recovery. No way I'd ever try that.
It was a ktm...
That was the nail in the coffin for my buddies riding career. Obliterated both legs. His name is Joe Rice and as mentioned the track is Beans Road. Its tamed down now an still operates as a great practice track right over the hill from Sellards house. I used to hunt the property back in the day too. Joe has skill on a bike and was a local fast kid while he rode. He has since healed and is living the dad life with no bikes involved about 10 miles from me. Joes nickname as a kid was smokin joe rice. He always jumped stuff on his 80 that no one else would. Hes had multiple chopper rides in his day. We had a big benefit at a local track for him after that incident to help with medical bills and such.
His brothers rode also and after that accident of joes they switched to strictly woods. Unfortunately, one of his older brothers, Mike, lost his life at a gncc type race a handful of years back. He was a hell of a guy and theyre a super nice family. I carry a pair of Mikes goggles with me in my gear bag to, in a sense, keep a part of him traveling to races. Another local buddy bought his bike and keeps it shined up and ridden in the woods. Random note, My daughter plays softball and randomly we played against the team one of Mike's daughters was on. The girls new father figure happened to be coaching first as was I. After a bit of conversation, I was glad to see someone Mike would approve of coaching his daughter.
P.s.... We still argue about bailing. I say he shoulda hung on but he swears he wouldve broke his arms and back.
Most important question... was that an OJ of 3 or a UJ of 4? From the looks of it, it coulda been either.
He was going for 4. 3 wasn't hard.
Yes I’m going to ask (I have broke both legs going over bars once) what is the definition of obliterating legs?
My jump wasn’t that big so I can’t imagine with that one , that’s why I’m asking and was it only leg injuries?
No pelvis or back?
Chad did ok....lol
I don't remember every bone but it was pretty focused from the hips down. Id have to ask but I dont think it was femurs (this time, but I do know hes done that a couple times too) but pretty sure both tib fibs shattered in mult ple places and ankle and foot bones.. He has a massive amount of hardware on both sides.
Exactly what I thought. Better to g-out on the bike than to g-out legs first into the ground.
Even better, make sure to clear the damn jump.
Anyone know the outcome?
Edit.- just read through the rest of the posts. Glad your mate recovered Meister.
I've had a similar big one before, never bailed but badly sprained both wrists.
Yea, no way I would have bailed on the suspension.
As someone that broke almost everything from the knees down in one crash, I can tell you firsthand that Joe feels the decision to go for that jump every single morning.... Glad to hear that he is enjoying living the dad life. Quite a few of us with massive trauma either get hooked on pain killers or worse.
One other question - Was he the only one to go for that quad or had it been done before/after?
All the regular locals tripled easy but to my knowledge no one had ever gone for 4 before he tried it. Shortly after the helicopter left, BJ, the track owner, manipulated the track to prevent anyone from ever trying it again.
Ill also say this, the video doesn't do it any justice honestly. Im, well, I was one of the guys when I was younger that would go for some knarly stuff, but that's one I didn't even consider.
That track has seen some of the sports legends. Brock used to bring tons of guys when nationals came back east. Ive ridden and hung out with GL, Casey Johnson, Robbie Reynard, and many others there in the early 2000s. At one time there was a party/freestyle event there with bands and the top fmx guys. Bartram, clowers, parsons. Those were the days.
Did he ever ride again after recovering or was that his last jump?
Pit Row
I think he may have putted around here or there but that was pretty much all she wrote.
He's a trooper. 🫡 Thanks for sharing the backstory. Tragic that he lost his brother too
