He got a TV interview a just said he’s in a mid season slump and has sucked in Detroit lately. I think he went from 3rd to getting lapped there in 2024. Bad vibes

I’m torn because I’m a huge ET3 guy and would love to see him get one more title before hanging it up, but this it probably the best chance Kenny’s had at a SX title and the guy definitely deserves it, would feel great to see him win one.

But something definitely is up with Eli, he’s progressively gotten worse each week since winning Daytona. Strong 2nd in Indy, a slow 3rd in Birmingham, then that showing this weekend in Detroit. We’ll probably never know but hopefully he gets healthy and comfortable again because this title race could be an all-time one right down to the end if he stays in it.

Eli Tomac: “I knew I was going to take advantage of [Hunter Lawrence’s crash] once I saw that he was a lap down, but overall it was a bit of a frustrating day here. I have actually struggled here with my last couple of rides, so I don’t know what it is – I just haven't had the best success at Detroit lately and maybe I’ve been in a bit of a mid-season slump. So, we’ll do what we can to get better and improve, and try to get back to winning some races and getting closer to the front.”

This is similar to the year at Atlanta when he dabbed his foot and tweaked his knee. He had a couple races where he lost the aggression and speed, but never confirmed an injury until a few weeks later.

Someone mentioned it earlier, Tomac isn’t pushing through the rhythms like he usually is, even in the beginning of the race. His position on the bike looks different too, much farther back than usual. Typical arm pump Tomac would be able to push early but fall off 8-10 minutes in. This current Tomac looks like he is trying to be overly smooth as if he is trying to avoid something.

Just an observation, could be completely wrong.

I noticed on the finish line jump Eli would go outside to outside (slower) sometimes, he looked uncomfortable doing the usual drift inside to outside into the jump like everyone else was doing. I did see Sexton's bike twitch a little on the upramp, so maybe there was something there unusual that spooked him. But the mid-corner hesitation seemed to be present on alot of turns.

Just seemed unwilling/unable to drift the bike like Hunter/Roczen/Sexton.

Except he doesn't really suck at Detroit.

2019 1st

2020/2021 no race

2022 1st

2023 3rd

2024 10th

2025 injured

2026 5th

Seems to match more with his fairly common "has a mere mortal moment" and does not smoke the field. Either way if his Elito Mac races are behind him and he has the red plate he is in a good position. And the championships is Tomac's or Hunter's to lose.  Either one of them can win this from here Whereas Roczen still needs a little help.

Thanks...I still don't get it, though...he looked great in qualifying at Birmingham. Something happened. I was thinking the LCQ deal mentally fried his brain that night, but Detroit looked like he didn't want to be there.

Still, he sees Hunter is a lap down, but then literally pulls over to let JCoop go by? Then picks it up to hold off Webb? Makes no sense.

He’s injured. Avoid hitting the ground is priority 1.

I duno if you guys saw his post race interview, but he looked stone cold. Wasn’t even happy to inherit the red plate. This could indicate that he has something that isn’t going to get better anytime soon.

My thoughts on holding Webb off and not J. Coop is because Tomac is aware that Webb is still a title threat...J. Coop is not.

Edit: Just looked at the points. Webb is farther off than I thought.

He has been off since Daytona. In Indy he was like "second was all we had tonight". In Birmingham, he said something similar "we just didnt have it". Now tonight. At Indy, he was obviously sick with something, you could very much hear it in his voice when he was doing interviews.

He had 'it' at Indy for the first race.  Until he didn't.

IMG 0009 1IMG 0010 0What kind of damage could a hay bale cause to an ankle/knee. The 450 main start at Birmingham, Tomac smacks a hay bale with his left foot pretty good.

Timeline makes sense if this was the incident.

I think it has more to do with only needing to hold Webb off for a couple of laps to hang onto 5th. Doubt it had anything to do with who it was behind him.

You guys need to get on OwenJakes program. No reason you can’t peak athletically in your mid-30s if you’re on the right “stuff”

I think the people on here are on all their bullshit diets. I’m pushing 40, still recovering from being paralyzed (which you would never guess now) and feeling better daily. Obv eating pretty well and going to the gym. It’s easy for people to go to a gym and see anyone bigger and be like “holy steroids”. I mean I’ve never tried steroids but I do know you still need to shovel food properly and work out as well. It’s not a needle where you blow up and get shredded with zero work.

My guess is a strain or bone bruise type of situation where it will improve.

Or possibly cos he knew after last week and clutch dropping J-Coops leg after making a not so ideal pass that he owed J-Coop. And having enough of the race to go, not being ideal pace (either from injury/illness/just riding like shit) he thought, might be a battle too far. By the end with Coop catching him, with just 2 laps to go, drop whatever is left in the bucket and sprint cos Webb's spicy and will eat ya

Not doubting your comments but if this is true...that you have inside information, how could none of the moto media world not know this as well? They all know people who know Tomac well.

Nobody that knows Tomac well would spill the beans - both the media and his internal circle protect his privacy IMO. If he or his father wanted to say something, it would be open. Look at how the media treats Chase Sexton "banged up" - when he had a massive crash in practice. Better to say nothing. With all this betting BS I'm surprised there isn't some kind of disclosure requirement bleeding into rider contracts so the betting world knows the odds more reliably.

Maybe some bike problems?? In the main he got a crap jump but you could see his holeshot device was stuck all the way around the first turn. He did a couple wheelies trying to release it.

No ur right it’s totally a rumor. My cousin could be full of shit, but the difference is if someone is close to him they prob would be less likely to tell the media than another friend. Telling the media would obviously make it a huge story and possibly hurt this persons relationship with Eli where telling another friend it would only be considered speculation and not a credible source.

They forgot to lube his clutch cable.   It's been a few months and the extra resistance is causing issues.   It's not on the mechanic checklist, so it's been overlooked.

Right…fastest qualifier to 35 seconds off the pace in the main.

I’m sure we will find out in 2 months what the deal is though.

maybe he slightly reinjured his achilles or knee in a practice crash or foot dab.  Def protecting a body part.
