I was blown away with it too, what in the hell is the AMA doing? I was shocked by the severity of the penalty. Take a race win away for that?! Outdoors will be fun to watch.

Actually, I thought Deegan's dismissiveness came from a position of strength. He did choose to switch lanes - wasn't bumped from this, just grazed the inside of the track marker. This could have still been waived off by the AMA as being minor, but I get Star not protesting because it benefits Davies. And Deegan made his statement to his competition by running through them 10th to first like they were lappers. Power statement. 

He should challenge it RC style.

Grey area, but it's not like he jumped back to inside to pass the current leader on the final lap or egregiously halfway through the split lanes. 

The AMA has had a head scratching year to say the least but in this case they were presented with irrefutable video evidence of a rules violation and they issued a penalty. That's good, right? I thought that's what we want more of from the AMA.

Taking away a win for this is beyond ridiculous. Dock him 30 points...he'll still win by 30. 

Split lanes take away the racing . You’re on 2 separate tracks , stupid. Then hv markers in the middle , more stupid.

Let him go to WSX. After the show up money runs out he’ll be right back to AMA SX. I don’t understand the thinking behind if Deegan were to leave the series it would end.

I'm honestly bewildered at how many people's brains are being bricked at the concept of a split section.

Listen, I am no Danger Boy fan. I was actively rooting for Davies to win mostly cause I cannot get enough of that kid hitting whoops! But danger boy didn’t do anything wrong, this penalty is stupid, and he put an ass whoopin on them boys. Credit where credit is due, kid can plain ride the wheels off a dirt bike. #factsarefacts

Re the never ending different takes on things, over the Decades.

Hence the Deegan and Ferry penalties this last weekend. 

Nah, I predict they'll (forever) continue to be as inconsistent / incompetent as ever.

I personally took the time to re-watch the race.

As I had counted 9 other riders (10 total) did the same or similar mistake (all races).There were 3 people penalized.

That is as inconsistent as it gets. The AMA seems to have a “we will show them” attitude. All they have really shown is that they need new leaders. Whatever they are doing now makes no sense.

Someone needs to start an open letter to the AMA thread or this will never get fixed

After listening to pulp and having seen the replays a few times I agree Deegan broke the letter of the law by just barely grazing the inside of the track marker. But the penalty? What advantage did he gain from it? A second? Hell, give him a 5 second penalty and he still wins the race. It wasn't like it was a red cross flag violation, or he went inside-inside on the split lane. "The only thing that can defeat Deegan is the AMA 🤣🤣🤣🤣"

Honda should have protested for Deegan (but probably can't because he's not their rider); giving Davies the win hurts Jo.

I thought he'd be pissed missing that bonus check. What is that like 50K? 25K?

The video I saw was far worse... went from the farrr left to missing the first marker entirely and running over the next two markers... he basically did what they didn't want, an extreme last second lane change... definitely deserved... just odd they actually called it on the cringe lord... must be the ama showing "honda" that ya we penalize star once every blue moon.. 

He commented on someone’s post saying it was worth $100k. 

He didn’t run over the last two markers, there was a gap between marker 1 and 2 and he went in that gap.

He most definitely clipped #2 and #3.  Still not an egregious violation, IMO. 

I think Reed's point is that the markers get run over all the time outdoors and even cut inside. In the past, it was said the markers were "just suggestions."

Reed is talking about running over track markers, which is essentially what Deegan did. It happens all the time outdoors.  

Exactly, why is the penalty a loss of position for running over something that’s run over multiple times a moto with no penalty. IDK Man

Thinking he will probably make more money from this "controversy" than the $100k win bonus..via clicks, subscribers, apparel..etc.

Incidents like this can turn haters into fans..

I'm absolutely dumbfounded that people are struggling with the distinction between the yellow acerbis markers used to generally mark a motocross track and markers used to delineate the inside and outside of a split section in supercross. Crossing a split lane is an absolute no-no, as was explained to the riders. You can keep arguing about the proper penalty until you're all blue in the face but the infraction is black and white and irrefutable.
