He knows the risk he took w/that piece and in his eyes he obviously weighed the risk/reward and thought it needed to be said. I'm sure there's a specific rider or two that lead him to that piece and I'm sure they know who they are.

i would think that a lot if not every rider on the line will hear about it and take it into consideration.

Just a theory with Ryan: What's the number one question you would ask him? I bet it's about DeCoster leaving & how it will affect him. Ryan could probably only answer that question so many times, before it would really start to rattle his confidence. Reporters need to get more specific & ask good detailed questions, not the same vague boring shit that gets the same old boring regurgitated responses. Riders have to be so bored of those (what are you feeling, how are you feeling, whats your expectations, who's your main competition) same old questions that don't really need to be asked.

Jimmy's blog leaps off the page like a jilted girlfriend. His frustration is understandable; his reaction, not acceptable. There's a line between straight talk and irate ramblings, and Lewis crossed it.

The "industry", including riders and journalists, will not take kindly to the blog, as it displays Jimmy's tendency to speak negatively when he doesn't get his way. It lacks professionalism, and while some may see it as "refreshing", others (especially professional riders) may interpret it as a threat to what will happen if you turn down Jimmy's request for your time.

If Jimmy thinks he has elevated his status in the industry or forged a tighter bond with riders, I'm afraid he's mistaken. He probably doesn't care, and that's fine, but like it or not, his actions represent Dirt Rider, and I doubt everyone on his staff were thrilled with the blog's content.

I like the guy that speaks his mind out, (all but Reed) but I agree with this statement!

Maybe he is catching them at a bad time, maybe he is right, who knows?

I find the timing of Jimmy's little hissy fit to be really poor and it aint gonna sell more of his magazines. We often forget that most of these guys are very very young men/boys who have lived in the vacuum of motorhomes and racetracks for most of their life. They are either adored or hated by a very small group of family, friends, other racers and fans during this time and are expected to be "professionals" at an age I was poppin zits, chasin chicks and lookin for another bag of gonja (which some of them try to do also and it shows up eventually...lol). The point is these kids are out there living in a supercharged high adrenaline environment when they make it toward the top with a average career expectancy of like two seconds. I am not letting them off the hook totally but I am really most intrerested in what they do on the track and if a couple of them blew Jimmy off to go f-off before they have the next biggest race of their life then I say... so what?

Thank god this sport has at least one Jimmy Lewis in it. It gets no more hard core honest than that. Best thing about his mag is that its all about bikes and races..all racing. Worcs as well and that's a cool mix. I use to read another magazine but it started getting corny. There was an article where Jlaw and Josh Hill were pitched in a Beavis and Butthead way, and I never went to the newsstand for it again.

Time does have a way of humbling even the biggest star and that's a fact. We used to have a saying back in the day, "Last week a hero, this week a zero". Fame is fleeting and these guys are all just an injury away from obscurity. One thing I learned during my days as a rider was that it doesn't pay to be a dick to people, because sure as shit you are going to run into those same people you think you passed on the way up, when you are on your way back down.

That said, time changes everything...my old arch-nemesis, Rocket Rex Staten, called me earlier in the week to get some tickets for Saturday night. Thirty years ago we couldn't stand each other and were fined for fistfighting in the infield after a race and now the rat bastard is hitting me up for four tickets to A1! LOL! And you know what? I love it and Rex and I are cool as can be and I got him hooked up.

Like I said, time changes our perspectives, for sure!

I meet Jimmy once at a race back east. He seemed like a pretty cool to me, not a typical SoCal guy at all. I think he tells it like it is.

Lewis is the real deal. He mentions he raced but really didn't elaborate on it. Funny thing is, His fame which he is very modest about is larger then many of these darling princes he is trying to get interviews from. Six Days gold medals, Finishing Dakar is impressive now matter who you are and doing it well? He finished just shy of the podium in 4th If you really want to be ballsy try finishing the Baja 500 on an XR 100. He did that because he already won the 1000. Top it off, he actually finished Red Bull's last man standing. He might not be the Fast "A" kid at the track but he will put in more laps then any of them and then hang out with you and bench race.

I am a fan of the guy. When he speaks I will listen.

Look what Bauer wrote and it seems that either Jimmy is not talking about Dungey or Jimmy just had bad timing on the interview request. Or maybe in the past Jimmy wrote something that pissed Dungey off. Who knows but Dungey seems to do plenty of interviews.

I don't think it took guts for Lewis to post that... it would have been gutsy if he named names. It would have also been professional suicide.

I don't think his article is a direct attack at any one rider. I think all the journalists are trying to get face time with the top 20 to do exactly as he phrased it - we want to know what they are thinking.

Its the message boards who shout for the TMZ gossip of who's hurt, who's ready and who's got butterflies. Your posts are an excellent example of why he is frustrated. If you voiced you didnt give a shit, he would probably go back to his life and doing a review on the new WR and actually enjoy his job of riding bikes. But since the need for Gossip makes money, he has a job to do.

So what's it gonna be? Shout for drama from the kids on the line or watch the race for entertainment. Its a vicious circle that you are perpetuating. Kinda Ironic huh?

I thought what Jimmy wrote was awesome!

He was the first journalist to write about it, but there are several journalists that have been echoing the same thoughts about the riders. They have just hinted here or there. I recall hearing Matthes say something about not being able to talk to any of the top riders. I think even GuyB wrote something to the same affect when the whole mystery injury thread was out there.

It is the truth. With the exception of a few riders, SX/MX racers are just not too smart with PR. Hopefully, with the rise of these independent teams that are sponsor driven, things will change in the future.

Jimmy should be respected as a good writer.......and a damn good rider.
