Thanks for posting your own thoughts in a detail way Manny, appreciate the honest discussion since that seems to be way beyond the ability of most around here now.
I think our big disconnect here is what we believe regarding Iran nuclear aspirations and how much oversight we actually had over them. My understanding is that prior to the episode last year we had pretty damn good oversight of their program, and if that was the case you can understand why it seems incredibly foolish to me to end that agreement and lose the oversight that we had. But, at the same time, I can understand where you’re coming from if you believe we did not have sufficient oversight, that would absolutely be concerning.
Here’s why I’m tending to have a lot of hesitancy believing what we’re told by the federal government in this situation. Last year we were told that the nuclear facilities were destroyed, and if they were there would be no need for concern in the present day about Iran enriching any uranium let alone to weapons grade levels. We also just saw Trump let the START treaty lapse with Russia, which was the only remaining cap on nuclear weapons between our two countries. This seems extremely irresponsible to me and leads me to believe they can’t be all that concerned about a true nuclear attack from anywhere in the world if they aren’t taking that agreement seriously.
I’m not by any means a fan of the current Iranian regime but my fears for what this could turn into greatly outweigh any perceived threat Iran poses to us in the present day. It would be pretty easy for Russia to supply Iran with support and weapons to drag us into a prolonged conflict just like we did to them in Ukraine.
