I remember when we had to read about the races and look at pictures. Then we'd get the occasional race on TV and even bootlegs from people who snuck a camcorder in. You always felt grateful to be included. Now of course it's even better, for a modest fee I can sit on my own couch and watch the races.

Sorry but this sounds like poor people problems.

On my 465 inch flat screen, the split screen looks awesome!

MXaniac,

I am betting by your screen-pic, which appears to be a vintage shot of a venerable ol’ Maico from the glory days that were early 80’s Moto, that you are somewhere around the same age as me, and spent many a race weekend, waiting on Cycle News or other printed media to show up at the newsstand or in the mailbox with the weeks race results! I remember those days well & I appreciate this modern world we live in with SX brought right into my living-room in real time!
👍👍 for us old-timers!

BUT

That still does NOT mean that we should have to be OK with horribly (SHITTY!) production quality or be forced to tolerate the GARBAGE announcing, just because “it’s better than nothing”!
NO other sport looks SO amateur-ish and the production value is SO bad, that I literally find myself muting the sound, using my binoculars (from my EZ chair!) to see the miniature split screen BS and I am left shaking my head in disgust wondering how much longer I will even bother to care as this entire production makes my beloved sport of Moto look like a lame, redneck circle-jerk! Wide World of Sports & Jim McKay did a better job showing how impressive and manly Moto was nearly 50 years ago… there is simply NO excuse for this shit-show that is foisted upon us weekly and “better than nothing like the old days” is a really lousy standard for us to just accept without complaint! They CAN do better!

Now… GET OFF MY LAWN! 😝 👍❗️

If you watch old races they didnt use split screen and still managed to show most of what was going on. Hell wsx just did their series with basically no split screen and it was fine. Id rather watch one battle on full screen than 2 things I cant see.

The best was when they finally went from the split screen to a single they didn’t go to the lead battle that was less than a second apart they went to a 4th/5th battle that was like 2.5 seconds apart

I don't watch much of any TV. I don't relate to the constant virtue signaling, demographic pandering, and appeal to emotion as if principles aren't relevant. The SX broadcast obviously aims to drag people into the background stories with an emotional attachment in order to appeal to a wider audience, mainstream America instead of the moto community. It's not targeting us, it's not written for us. Will they succeed in attracting a wider audience? Probably not, motorcycle sales are to an increasingly older age group. Rock music has fallen out of favor, kids don't rush to get a drivers license at 16. But NBC us trying, and they've already got us diehards. You're going to watch because you eat sleep and breath MX.

I get to watch the races live, with an unknown outcome, with all the anticipation, surprise, disappointment, and glee the sport can provide. Sure I have to tune out the non value add bs and commentary, but I'm tuned in to see and hear the riders on the bikes, and I get to do that. Maybe I'm just resigned to the fact that the only thing written for our demographic is all the drug commercials. The broadcast isn't written to appeal to me, and it doesn't, but the racing does and a least I have that.

Serious question - why don't they ditch the running order and go to a true full split screen?  Preferably side by side instead of one on top of the other.

I was yelling at my screen all race. I can’t stand the split screen that just never goes away. Unless you want that jump to that awesome 6th place battle and ignore the battle up front. That’s just awesome.

That's really hard to do with Sports.  You would have two shots with an aspect ratio of 8:9.   Normal is 16:9.   That is the reason for the graphics.

Does anyone else feel like theyre using too much split screen? It makes it so instead of really focusing on one battle going on youre trying to watch two things at once on two tiny screens and its not as easy to see. They also make the boxes too small with a bunch of unused screen space around them. If they have to use split screen why not make both take up the whole screen and then overlay the rider position box over that on the side like they do on single screen?

They should save the split screen only for moments when two cant miss things are happening at once and when they use it make the screens bigger. Use it less but make it count when you do, I think that would help a lot towards making it better to watch. We were able to watch racing for years with 1 screen and catch most of the action. Innovation is good, but I think this one is being used too much, tone it back a bit and itll be good.

FUCKING TERRIBLE!!!!

When I was first married and bought my own TV I had a 36" screen.  Now, some 30 years later, I've got a screen twice as big with ten times the resolution and can't see the races any better because they constantly want to show two screens plus the running order.  In fact, it's worse now because my house is bigger and my 75" TV is three times as far away as when I had a 12' by 12' living room and sat 6 feet from the screen.

The way 25-30% of the screen is wasted is what bugs me. I’m watching on a 65” (third world, I know..) screen and if they utilized 90%+ of the screen it’d be much more watchable.

I wish they would just stay full screen and if something else worthy of a split screen happens, just add it using picture in picture or whatever it's called. I just chatgpt'd this image but something like this.

Then, if the picture in picture becomes more exciting, make that full screen and what was full screen the picture in picture1000003326 0.jpg?VersionId=tc4OCAa0otkxGzA

But then the 12 people who were involved in developing the battle box graphics would be out of a job.

This is how F1 and any decent Motorsport broadcast does it. But not SX we are still stuck in 1998 and I’m over he squinting and still can’t see who is in what position on my 70”+ OLED tv lol.

Well at least we aren't the only sport complaining about the same problem... 1000003331 0.jpg?VersionId=yW7CTytbMQi3hCJ5G

If the running order was a single line at the top of the screen that scrolled like they used to do it wouldn’t be that bad. Like this:
IMG 9310 0.jpeg?VersionId=c lR.6B8

Also if they actually, you know, used the whole screen…

They had the split screen for the same drone camera angle following Mookie last night, took them a good 10-30 seconds before they realized it and ran it in full screen 💀. Also missed the battle for first with Tomac passing El Hombre ...
