Agree it was intentional.  What is weird as why he continues to do it when he has proven that he is faster than all the other 250 guys.  He has the skill to do a block pass without putting the other rider on the ground - and he should do that - especially on a teammate in the second race of the year.

He needs to be careful as someone might retaliate and ruin his 450 debut this summer.

That’s the part I don’t understand about Deeg’s. He could have literally just held a lower line, let Max ride the high line with no incidents and still passed him and left. He was that much faster. I think it’s just who he is.

If he did that, he doesn't have a chance at walking away with the red plate. He came in to round 2 down 7 points but left up 1. Not saying this makes it any better, just saying I think that's what he is thinking.

His past shows that doesn’t matter, he is still choosing to hit them when unnecessary.

There’s a lot of rage-bait being tossed into this thread.  Supercoss racing has always been a spectacle and Deegan’s race tactics add to the show.

Deegan cut down under and his rear wheel slid up and took out his front wheel. Yep that’s racing , don’t leave the door open. Non Issue, move on.

I would imagine that yamaha would rather these things not happen among teammates.

There was certainly a potential 1-2 Yamaha finish, yet Deegan's actions relegated them to a 1-5.

No way they're happy about that.

Maybe, I'm not part of his race team and I'm just bench racing. I'll give you that he has "cleaned out" 5 people now (that I would consider on purpose - one of them being himself) and all but 1 rode a Yamaha at the time. All but 1 really had big season implications imo, so I think his strategy is widen the points gap no matter how many friends you lose. It works for some riders but it always helps to have friends.

Oops, forgot about Mosiman being Yamaha.

So, even makes it worse. Could have been a 1,2,3 Yamaha.

Deegan is the ultimate heel in this sport.

Pretty much the motivation for passing like that.
If it had been clean/respectful/decent/right, Max would’ve probably finished 2nd, and still the red plate holder.

Deegan couldn’t even lie convincingly about it being a mistake.

The problem with riding like that: if everyone did it the sport would be ruined.

Look at the hard/clean/great racing in the 450 class. Class! DungerBoy - classless.

HL - “I thought: if I go in from here it would be really dirty”

So, even though it was the last lap, for the win, and the guy in front wasn’t a team mate - he didn’t want to be “dirty”. And have Tomac do it to him next week - see “ruin the sport”.

I guess Roczen should have took Tomac’s front wheel out here then with that logic.

I've openly said he's a dime bag, still strongly believe so. And while some will argue the move was 100% intentional while the nut huggers will scream it wasn't, I actually think it wasn't too bad all things considered. Necessary however? Absolutely not.

The problem is the common denominator and history. He always does this, over and over again. So regardless of whether it truly was intentional or not, history suggests that it indeed was to a degree. Regardless, the outcome is Deegan red plate, and Anstie losing points that he really shouldn't have.

I'm okay with knocking someone down, everyone was okay and Max can do it to Deegan next week. I don't like torpedoing people, but back wheel to front wheel in the middle of a corner is okay. Max should guard the inside next time and force Deegan to go around the outside...

Tomac and many others had the chance to do it to Jett for twice that much at the SMX final and didn't.

I’m with you on this take - on balance: it wasn’t a crazy aggressive take out, he didn’t need to do it, it gave him a moderate points advantage but he also risked getting tangled up in it.

Yes it was probably deliberate, no he doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt to say that it wasn’t because of his body of work.

He’ll knock a guy down when there’s literally nothing to gain (Shock last year) just because… so if it’s against a title contender (and the guy who stole the show last weekend), you’d be silly to think he’s not gonna try to mess their race up

Riding like he does doesn’t always work in the 250s. Ask Jo.

As has been mentioned: don’t think it will work for long in the 450 class.

People forget Tomac can get physical... Everyone's lucky he's fast enough to do it clean. Eli makes the bike obey him, Jet gives his bike treats to make his life easier. Different approach,  same outcome.

The same thing happened in the 450 class, might have been Chase. Doesn't matter who it is, I don't like it.  It's like cross jumping, even though you're in front and have the line, the other rider can't do anything to avoid it. At that point, it's to late to check up.

Tomac didn’t make a career of it, Deegan does it over and over. Big difference there.

Deegan: What a train wreck. What a dirtbag.

Can he ride? Sure. No one can really debate that. Is he a dirtbag? Yep. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. His dad from what I recall, was a bit of 'that guy' as well - just not nearly as fast.

You cannot imagine that some kid, perfectly groomed from day 1 by his own dad, will be anything less than good.

His intentional take outs 'to put butts in the seat for entertainment' as he said about potentially injuring Jo are getting a little absurd. Quite frankly, his earnestness about not caring about hurting others because he's "there to entertain the crowd" should have earned him a big timeout, big fines, etc. We don't need that nonsense - the sport is dangerous enough. Now with Max - his own teammate - it's glaringly obvious: he is just a dirtbag, doing dirtbag things.

He is right though, the AMA absolutely cares about entertainment and selling tickets. Which, Dirtbag Deegan does. The AMA rewards this behavior by giving him tons of screen time - even when he finishes off the podium, they want interviews with him on TV. I will generally mute them and/or fast forward if I'm watching a replay. I don't want to give that kid any of my time.

Daddy groomed his little social butterfly 'dangerboy' since his youth and grew a following of people that pay to see him be a total dirtbag. "Rubbin's Racin'!" they claim. But he's not rubbing. He's intentionally taking people out for essentially no need other than 'entertainment'. There is a distinct and important difference. A little rubbing (not cleaning someone out) for position is different than being clearly faster than someone and intentionally waiting to take them out. That's true Dirtbag Deegan level of dumb.

It's a bad look for the AMA - they should have hit him where it hurts; money isn't it. The fact we get this dirtbag shoved in our faces all the time and talked about constantly is even more of a showing they don't care about the riders, their safety or the racing. They care about profit; and Dirtbag Deegan knows it, so he will continue to be a dirtbag with little consequence.

His daddy did a good job. He raised the perfect Dirtbag Deegan.

Don’t think anyone mentioned this yet either. That 1st place bonus pays a lot better than 5th.

Just a guess without ALL of the context but certainly some

Bobby loves pitting riders against one another and has done so intentionally (jmart and coop) in the past

Last year Bobby gave Max some crap talk phone call that really set max off on the podium

Bobby let’s deegan train seperately from the rest of the team.  I believe he’s the only dude doing so and is Bobby’s golden goose.

Max is a very level headed guy on the best 250 team but probably wants to avoid losing his ride AND steer clear from the drama of Diaper Deegan.

Max literally said they all trained at Deegans house the week before. How is that Bobby letting deegs train separately if they are all at deegs house. WTF. Get your shit strait.

Good post.

His speed and skill are top notch, his asshole behavior is also world class. So I personally avoid buying anything that he’s associated with. I don’t think my choices matter to him or his sponsors at all, but my money doesn’t go into his pockets.

He could be a lot more valuable to his sponsors if he didn’t act like rich trailer trash all the time.
