Anything from his rear brake pedal, swing arm, and disk could have hit a rock and caused a spark. Happens quite a bit actually

I thought he definitely looked a little flustered for a minute there before focusing again. That's not like him. Maybe a rock or something?

Bingo. Rocks hitting Ti parts will do that. Seen it quite a few times over the years

I'm glad I wasn't seeing things.   Kinda looked like a glare coming off his rear fender at times..

I saw them.  Sintered brake pads?  Small rock in rotor?

I also thought it was a Sintered brake pad spark.  That is more common than people think, especially when a brake is under heavy use and is really hot as I'm sure they are under those conditions.

Fairly certain if you could see his lit pro data he just hit 88mph for that little bit then he backed it down. Happens.

Happened to Tomac also, I think it was around the mechanic area. It’s not so uncommon as described earlier.

Obviously a malfunction on the E start.

Maybe he accidentally hit the button

How big were the rocks out there?  You'd think the broadcast team would have mentioned it every chance they got?

Usually when I've seen sparks from the pegs it's in a rut.   Doesn't look like he's dragging his pegs right here (entering a corner).

Could gravel off the front wheel hit the peg and cause a stream of sparks?    Seems much more likely it's sintered pads, debris caught in the pads, or a failing pad. Seemed like he slowed up a little after the sparks started flying.

What I saw seemed to be coming from the rear wheel area.

I thought brakes too.

I saw them and thought oh shit KR94 going to DNF or crash. But I could of sworn I seen them over the triple later that lap also. The one he had just past Hunter the 2nd time. I thought it could be high metallic brake pads and a brake tap in the air.

Haven't gone to an indoor race in some years, but sparks were always prevalent at dry hard pack Anaheim rounds I attended. It's just the foot pegs.

It’s the old Suzuki technology.  New bikes with new tech don’t do it. 😀

They can give you a bit of a Fright when you are right behind someone, who has Ti in the Knee Pucks!

First time I encountered it, it was a bit of a surprise.

A few decades ago that became a 'thing', for a while. They got banned - as did Pucks with Flint imbedded in them. They made for some sparking, that's for sure!

Then there were the flames shooting out of Termis ( and other pipes ) , on 851s, 888s , 916s and onwards...... Having that go into your face on the way into a corner was, a bit 'disturbing'.

Though, that often ended up with a few Ks worth of expensive CF / Kevlar pipes, burning up completely. 😁 At least one, took the whole bike with it.

Regardless of how hard the dirt is, his pegs aren't touching the ground right here.

There was a young man from Mattstedt

With balls made out of brass

When travelling in SoCal weather

His balls clanged together

And sparks would shoot out of his ass
