I'm not knocking you at all....you took advantage of the circumstances you were presented with, just like I do, and everyone else does.
The way the company can get out from under any such claim would be to track your charging usage and account for it as part of your compensation package. You'd then have to claim it as income for tax purposes
I knew you weren't. No worries there.
That would make sense, I hope it doesn't happen. Lol.
Good luck with your lawsuit.
Employers have been offering incentives for using public transportation or biking for decades. I’d bet that there’s not been anyone win a legal claim that they have to pay for petro fuel to make things ‘fair’.
Wait…what…you’re back in the PNW?!
When did that happen?

It’s not as bad as the news makes it. Sales in America might be slightly down but global sales are still up. It’s estimated they will be up 20 to 25% this year and the total global EV market share will be about 25% this year.
As for free market pricing, I’m all for it. We give about 35 billion dollars in subsidies annually here in America. To be completely fair, we should cut those as well and see where the market lands.
Subsidies = corruption.
The grid in this country cannot handle what the political utopians constantly ejaculate over. Especially now when AI is sucking up even more KW. California is the poster boy for champaign taste and beer pocket book. No nuke, nat gas , coal, or oil electrical generation but we will convert completely over to electricity. WTF are these people smoking?
As far as electric vehicles go, the wealthy sector has been satisfied. Without subsidies, which I credit Trump for doing away with, the market is bleak.
Do you want AI or electric vehicles. You cant have both unless the environmentalists decide that nuke is ok because they want to put up fake Youtube videos and drive their EV to pick up a latte.
Saw a video a couple of weeks ago of a Waymo just casually rolling through a police standoff. Funny to watch, but the passenger had to be shitting their pants.
Incentives to use public transportation or a bicycle are vastly different than paying for fuel for an employee owned vehicle. if you're paying for fuel for one type of vehicle you should pay for them all.
I have an electric SUV. Best car I’ve ever owned by far.
It’s not vastly different. It’s subsidizing one form of transportation and not another.
And I understand the opinion that if an employer is paying for one form of fuel then they should pay for another, but the notion that you’d win a lawsuit over that is not supported by anything.
I didn't say you'd win such a lawsuit. I don't know if it's been tried. Its not about forms of transportafion though....it would be about unequal compensation. The other angle is taxes. If you're receiving a product or service from your employer it should be listed as compensation unless you pay them for it.
"The other angle is taxes. If you're receiving a product or service from your employer it should be listed as compensation unless you pay them for it."
Like health insurance?
I've never been opposed to that. If I buy health insurance privately, I have to pay income tax on the money used to purchase it, and I don't get to deduct the premium expense from my gross income. Fair is fair
My wake up call on EVs came during last year's State of Emergency level blizzard in Gravenhurst.
First off, do you know how much snow has to fall to have a State of Emergency declared in cottage country? 5 feet in about 36 hours.
Standing in the parking lot with a few other dads trying to map out a route home around all the closed highways, this guy, a new Canadian, asked for directions back to Brampton. He then revelaed that hew drove a Tesla, and with the power being out indefinitely, we all told him to go back in the hotel and wait for it to come back before he tries to go anywhere. EVs work in the city, but up north, especially with the power out and sub zero temps, EVs just aren't gonna cut it until the battery tech improves.
if it gets real bad you can always buy gas cans and haul extra fuel with you in those types of situations. Can't haul extra EV batteries around with you, although I suppose the workaround would be to haul a gas generator and fuel for it.
You've hit the nail right on the head here. "In this application, I think the EV is a good option." Ev's work for a certain conditions. They don't work for all conditions. That's the rub....certain governments are trying to cram a one size fits all approach down our throats and it won't work. Climate concerns, infrastructure concerns and use cases all have an effect. Try hauling a trailer at highway speed with an EV and see what happens to the range. You wouldn't like the result.
Ev's are not the future of automobiles but they are great in certain situations like everyone is mentioning. More than likely Hydro is going to take over as they learn to harness it more. Gasoline or fuel combustion engines still have technology to unlock and it not where you would think it is from. For years they have had the ability to go 80-120 miles per gallon of fuel but the government does not want you to do this. More fuel is more revenue and tax dollars for oil and government. Fuel injectors spray a mist, the vapor ignites, the liquid settles and eventually turns into the lovely black carbon. Engineers have made vehicles far more efficient by using a vaporizer type fuel injection system that is way more efficient. Average vehicle is supposed to be able to travel around 400 miles per tank. Little cars get a 12 gallon tank with better fuel economy, where as trucks get around 15-25 gallons pending on size with the aim of being able to travel the 400 miles per tank. EV simply can not do this, and it is weather dependent to boot.
Pit Row
My Fiancé has an ID Buzz and it's perfect for her. Fits all the kids, charges in the garage, rarely goes below 50% charge and she only charges it to 80% overnight. Sure they aren't for everyone, but for people that can have a home charger and drive under 200 miles a day they are super convenient. Also I keep hearing that people don't want to have to use public chargers on road trips. The faster charging EV's will go from 10% to 80% in under 20 minutes. If you look at how much time you spend at a gas station in this situation I would bet it doesn't add any time at all when you factor in going in to take a leak, grab a snack, etc. The Buzz isn't crazy fast charging but we have two other vehicles so it wasn't a major issue to just use another car on a road trip if needed. She's done a couple and it took roughly 30 min to charge so not terrible at all, she used those to stop and get something to eat and every time it was ready to go when she got back to the van.
Weird, Norway is over 90% new vehicle EV sales at this point consistently for the last few years. I wonder how they survive over there?
Apples and oranges. Canada is 30 times the size of Norway.
Plus they subsidize them so heavily a Porsche Taycan is about as much as a pack of gum. And most of Norway' population is in coastal areas that are warmer than the inland parts of Canada and much of the Northern USA.
They also invest in infrastructure so that charging is easy to find. Most small towns out here have nothing for them
That is basically what the Maverick is. Only downside there is how expensive they have gotten. AWD Hybrid Mav is amazing even in Saskatchewan winter. Only downside is ground clearance. the stupid little thing even has higher payload than my Ram Power Wagon.
I haven’t seen one yet but the Slate electric trucks look pretty cool.
Nothing beats an OG Toyota PickUp as a town truck imo.
Anyone have any experience with this type of EV truck? Our current delivery truck is nearly 20 years old and just about due for replacement, and this sounds like it might be a good fit for a replacement if it does what it claims ‘in the real world’.
https://www.freightliner.com/trucks/em2/
The range would be right on the edge of our furthest current delivery areas, but we normally ship to those customers using a service. The couple of times a year that we’d need to rush things out to those areas, the weight being hauled would be very, very low and might help extend the published range just a little bit. I’m sort of wondering if Freightliner might be offering some crazy lease deals to get the ball really rolling on these types of trucks, but maybe there are a lot more already out there than I realize and there’s no reason to offer incentives to move them.

When the Mavericks came out I went and looked at one. The bed size is a deal breaker. I don't know what the payload is but it's only 4-1/2 feet long so what's it matter ? I guess if your hauling bricks or something small and heavy, 4-1/2' long "Truck" ? bed ? Swing and a miss.....
It will haul bikes no problem with the tailgate down. 4x8 sheet goods fit very well with the tailgate at half mast. they even designed it so the tailgate will sit at the same height as the wheel wells. I'm not saying it is the greatest for hauling things but man it is crazy efficient and so far super nice to drive.
People really like those things in the winter, especially the AWD hybrid. They're also reasonably reliable. I'll have to try one out one of these days. Box might be a little small for my particular needs but I can see it working for most people, realistically.
The other one that works really well if anyone really wants a hybrid is the PowerBoost F-150. It's more or less the same price as any similar spec F-150 (which is still ridiculously expensive), can tow and haul the same, and is surprisingly practical with the ability to run 120v things straight off the truck. And it can be had with a 6.5' bed, which is not 8' but will usually do the job just fine.
Dude!!!
If I could get a 1 ton dually EV to haul our heavier trailers that had a 250-300 mile range under load I would buy one in a heartbeat. The EV torque is amazing. It would be worth the 45 minute🤞recharge cycle on longer trips.
