Nobody with a brain actually thought he would disappoint or be underwhelming on a 450. It's more about the Deegan fans constantly saying he would move up and beat Jett and let's be honest.. Two different worlds right now in SX. But Deegan is exciting and will only make the 450 class even better to watch, whether we like him or not.

I'd rather watch racing... not metal melisha demo derby... but thats just me... 😉

I really don't think the same stuff he did to guys like Beaumer/Davies/Shock/Shimoda will work in the 450 class. If he tries the same shit with the hunter brothers/Anderson/Barcia or Tomac for example he will find out really quick. I expect him to humble down a lot once he moves up.

I would have been the first guy to stand up and celebrate if they black flagged him at SMX. But apart from the "melisha demo derby racing" you can't deny that the way he rides a bike is just exciting to watch, also the willingness to send and try stuff nobody else does. If you don't think so then that's completely fine lol

One thing that annoys me for sure is that he always acts humble when he doesn't win but once he wins he talks like nobody else is in his league, but in the end I don't have to like the bloke and can still appreciate what he can do on a dirt bike.

Yes, 6th place is quite impressive - not.  And spare us the excuses.  Nobody took him out, he simply continues to make C class mistakes.  The 2nd race was just sad.  As soon as he had to deal with some real pressure, he looked back constantly until his lack of focus made him crash.  Anyone who has actually raced knows that the "Alessi lookback" is the kiss of death.

That "Real Pressure" has a name...Multi-time champion and living legend of the sport - Eli Tomac.  I'm not a Deegan fan, but I don't think anything he did was "class C" considering the situation.  He'll look at the tapes and say, "Yeah, I should've focused on what was ahead".

Yes, his "character schtick" stuff turns me off, but the kid has amazing talent on a dirt bike and he's a quick study.  I didn't see any "kiss of death", but I do see a guy who will have bidding wars for his talent for the next 10+ years.

Who knows, maybe one day, I'll enjoy watching him ride AND like him...I'm open to it.

Unless it’s barcia or friese, or even cole thompson, other than that, i agree with you.

You think Deegan will race 450 SMX after he goes 22-0 in outdoors or will he drop back down to the 250? 🙂

Honest, maybe silly, question because I am not sure how it works- Deegan would ride the 250W because that is where he won it last year, correct? Or can he ride either coast and if he wins it, that is considered his title defense? I'm not trying to play semantics here but am curious how the rules are written.

I think Deegan will at least be a thorn in Jett's side for the outdoors, but indoors? I just haven't seen it yet. Sure, he won the title, but Shimoda won the opener before getting hurt, then Beaumer gave him trouble, and then Davies came in hot towards the end of his rookie season.

Plenty of 250SX champions have gone on to have mediocre 450SX careers. There was 17 250SX champions in 450SX last year. Winning one regional title is not a guarantee for success on the 450.

Depends on how you define “disappointing “.

Some are saying he’ll clean house on the 450.  To them last night might be disappointing - race 2 he made an unforced error; race 3 he got 2nd ahead of Kenny, Tomac etc but was yarded by Christian Craig.

Others are saying he’ll be competitive for top 5 and last night I’d consider as consistent with that prediction.

Deeg’s was running for his life from Joey and Jason.

I swear he looks back more than any rider ever. He cleaned it up for sure in the 3rd one but this not the first time he's done this.

They can race whatever coast they want, unfortunately there are no rules for what constitutes east or west riders, totally goes against the spirt of what Big Dave had in mind and is one of the many reasons 250s should be just one class

Hes always looked back on a 250. But he usually gapped everyone so quickly, it was one quick look back. With Joey all over him, he was looking behind him like crazy. Has there ever been a top rider that had this trait? I cant think of one

I don't like pompous blowhards in general, even if they can ride a dirt bike fast, throw a ball through a hoop, or run faster than any other human being. Being good at a sport does not make a man.  Character does.  Deegan has the character of a child. Perhaps he'll eventually grow up, but in the meantime my opinion of him will be the same as it is for any other jackass, regardless of athletic ability.

Although many poo poo him, Allesi was a top rider and as mentioned he looked back often

So Nate Diaz and Conner McGregor are probably not on your favorites list either ?

His riding won’t be disappointing but his actions and words off the track will be. I think the majority of this forum is of the understanding that a man is defined by his character not his athletic ability.

Whatever the fastest route to seeing Deegan and Jet on the starting line every race, together.....that is my preference.  Can not wait to see it.

The only thing confirmed is the cringe lord indeed rides like freeze w speed..  this isn't going to end well for thy cringe lord..

But seriously... the cringe train is on a downward slide.... dood gets destroyed by shimoda of all people in smx... now he's not really in the hunt, even in the second rate wsx series... Craig passes and yards him, and Craig would be lucky to be a top 10 guy in the states ... idk man.... 450s gonna be the end of the road for deegs... where it all comes undone... you can only keep a cow pie together for so long before it starts drying out... where it starts to Crack, then eventually crumbles...

You seemed to have studied the life of a cow pie quite extensively!

If it were not for the kitchen take out in the 2nd SMX event, Joe didn't have a path to win unless something happened to Deegs. The kid can be annoying at times. But most kids at his age say stupid things!

How many 250SX champions also have a 250MX championship and then had a mediocre 450 career?

Pastrana is about the biggest one I can think of. But his body let him down more than anything. He had the speed and talent. Tedesco might be the other shocking one, even then he still won a national and had a few ok years.

Everyone else that has won both titles on 250s usually is successful on a 450.
