Tom Vialle

Would Vialle be competitive against the current 450 SX cast of characters?

2 SX championships gets my respect. I think he would have done well on a 450 here but hard to turn down going back to a secure multi-year deal closer to home.

I hope he doesn’t misplace that bike on the on the wrong side of the ocean. Be a real shame if he showed up for a Supercross or AMA Motocross next year.

As a 2X world champ, will FIM let him keep 16 as his number in the GPs, or does he have to run a new one?

Won MX2 titles, MXON titles. turned up to America, walks in and takes 250SX titles back to back (during the era of the most hyped amateur in our sport?). Heads back home with a multi year deal to with arguably one of the best teams in the sport right now and a good looking bank account.

Underrated.

I mean heck... ok.  Yes, titles do speak for themselves, but occasionally we need to add context if we're looking to future results.  In three sx seasons,  he's got three wins. Outdoors, he also did well,  but with a 2x would champ,  I think most did expect him to contend a little more.

Three sx wins in two years means he won with consistency, less so being the fastest guy....  that's a-ok, but he wasn't dominant either.  Moving to the 450 class I think he would have been in a tough spot when you look at who he's racing against.  He also had a zach bell level crash, that could have been life changing,  but was saved by the net.  In his defence there, they were seriously big whoops. Jett took a little while figuring them out too.

Edit....  he won two nationals in three seasons.

Hardly the most dominant championships, but clearly the competition was fierce if you can win with his results. He was there week in and week out, I admire his determination.

Unless I'm remembering it wrong,  he was sent absolutely flying and would have landed at least a row over.

Ok,  its not bell level.  went and watched.  My mistake.  Still would have been a bad one without the net.

What are you talking about? 2X MX2 champion who couldnt win in the US. Never got a national championship. Never won a 250 shootout.  That's why he couldn't get a good 450 ride in the US.

Spin it how you want brother. I’d argue he is more decorated than any other current 250 rider in AMA.

MXON wins carry weight.

If he's attached to #16, does he come race the odd round here in the US to score enough points to keep if if he wants to come back in 3 years? Southwick anybody? Maybe early SX rounds next year?

Neither have Roczen, Musquin, Reed, to just name a few. Their 450 careers turned out fine. They just happened to race Eli Tomac and James Stewart in the little class. Tom happened to race Deegan who's just a beast outdoors.

He obviously did something right to get a two year hrc ride... but I did post his win totals.  Two national wins in three seasons isn't what most expected after two world titles.

No US supercross next year. Only WSX.

I'm already mentally in 2026, so I guess I should have specified '27.

Some people were wondering about Tom not taking the KTM offer in the US or if he had any other offers.

Translated question from Moto Verte:

It's true that this 2025-2026 offseason is pretty crazy in terms of the transfer market...

"In the US, when the different teams started negotiating, everything happened very quickly. Sexton agreed terms with Kawasaki and was set to join Prado. The HRC team already had the Lawrence brothers under contract. At Yamaha, Webb and Cooper were confirmed, Deegan's arrival in 450 Motocross was announced, and Tomac's departure was finalized.

I received some very good offers from Ducati and Triumph. But since I'm new to the category, I figured that starting out with a new team and a new 450 without much SX experience wasn't the best thing for me.

I was also approached by Suzuki to be Roczen's teammate.

At KTM, their offer was only for one year, with no financial guarantee of being paid if the factory encountered further financial problems. And since I wanted to move on anyway, I wasn't interested.

The offer from HRC came along and I didn't hesitate. It's a great opportunity and I accepted the deal with great satisfaction. Of course, I thought about it for a while, weighed the pros and cons, and came to the conclusion that it was the best possible choice. The bike, the team, the financial aspect, the human side, my personal conviction—I couldn't have asked for anything better."

Pretty good reason to turn down Ducati & Triumph, but I wonder why he said no to Suzuki?
