He was over riding, which is to be expected at this very early stage, no doubt he was excited. But not even Tomac wouldn’t cook a clutch in those conditions in eight laps.
However he showed speed and if he can smooth it out, he’ll be competitive. Biggest question for me is how long that process takes?
Yes, it is his first 450 race, but I personally was expecting him to battle with Roczen and not be a top 5 guy. Every corner, he was blowing berms and was pretty sketchy in few occasions. He will clean his riding style, but like you said, has a lot of work to be done. Fortunately, he will first race MX with 450 as he isn't ready for SX at the moment.
If you can kill a clutch in 8 laps, can you even ride?
Thats on him, just abuse, dont even think about ' we had a bad batch' bullshit.
Meanwhile Kenny probably still has the same clutch in from last year.
I thought I had seen he's using a hydraulic clutch?

Pretty surprised he smoked it on such a slick track. He has a lot of work if he wants to hang with Jett.
He wanted to at least sound fast.
It's ok saying 'well its his first race', if he has been riding like this in training and not been told he is doing it wrong, then the team needs to have a word, and if he hasnt, but decided slipping the clutch to death was suddenly going to make him faster, the same thing applies.
He was asking way too much out of the bike for the conditions. Spinning the wheel and swapping coming out of almost every corner without much drive at all. It was super slick and seemed like a pain in the ass for all of them, but Haiden didn’t even try to adapt it didn’t look like. He just kept dumping the clutch and losing the rear end blowing out berms and tough blocks.
Lotta Gary Bailey’s in here
Or Gary Semics
Yup.. i dont even need to be any good , to see that he isnt doing it right.
You never go faster by trying to look like you are going faster .
Why would your name have to be Gary to see it?
You don’t have to be either of those guys to see that Roczen was carrying momentum annd keeping roll speed up instead of hammering and going a lot faster in those conditions.
If you are not used to 450 power, maybe you don't adjust it in time, and ride with some slippage because you still have so much more power than on the 250.
Do you even use a clutch in supermoto?
I like Haiden, but the consensus isn't wrong. That wasn't a throttle heavy track.
Required more Pourcel, less Barcia.
Coming off a 250f and having to completely change your riding style by the first race is a little overzealous. These WSX races without having any pressure will apply enough race condition pressure, like having to come from the back, to have some great teachable moments for the rookie
When Tomac does it it’s cool af but when Deegan does it he doesn’t know how to ride a dirtbike.
Also, of course he didn’t compete with Roczen. It’s Ken Fucking Roczen. Deegan has a couple years before he can get to Ken’s level. That goes for Jett an Eli as well.
He’ll be a solid top 7 guy for the first year on 450s.
Pit Row
He was on Hydraulic and at some point during the night switched to cable. Maybe the last moto to see if he could fix the problem?
No one said it’s cool when Tomac does it. However I can only recall Tomac smoking a clutch outdoors and/or in heavy conditions. Deegan smoked his in 4 minutes. Kind of a big difference.
Was this his first ever ride on a 450?
When’s someone gonna come out and say,”Deeg’s is riding Tomac’s bike!”…? 🤣
it was his first race on a 450
I remember watching in person tomac smoke a clutch in a heat race at Nashville sx back when he was on kawi.
He confirmed that in the after race interview.
He said he lost his clutch completely in Motos 1 and 2, with the lever reaching the bars.
They switched to cable for Moto 3.
Only into the turns, dont even have a slipper clutch.
But in 50 years, i never had a clutch go away, let alone 8 laps.
Maybe he didn't really fry the clutch in those races.
In those 50 years did you ever podium in your 450 SX debut?
Apparently HD should take lessons from someone "that can ride"
Not a fan of or a hater but he rode a lot more aggressive than I’d imagine the first two mains. Ngl he had what the kids call “aura”. But Kenny just put in his laps almost mistake free minus the whoops last main. Was fun to watch but is not exactly how to win.
Welcome to vital mx forums, most of these clowns have never put a leg over a bike and have zero clue wtf they are talking about. HD has the best team in the business around him if there’s something to improve on they’ll get it done.
