Hello everyone, long time lurker of these forums, but don't post much. I recently made the move from Virginia to Sothern California (job requirement) a couple months ago. I now live in the San Clemente area and am scoping out the tracks. So far I've been to Barona Oaks and Fox Raceway a few times (vet track at Fox is a blast but man does it get packed). I'm thinking about venturing to Cahuilla Creek this weekend for the first time. How would you guys say this track ranks against the others in the area (Glen Helen, Perris, Barona, Fox)? Been watching YouTube videos and it looks like a nice facility, and never seems very busy.

Thanks

I'm in San Diego. Out of all the tracks here, Cahuilla is my favorite. Both the vet and main tracks are great, and the dirt is awesome. Fox is hands down the most busy, the vet track gets dangerously packed in my opinion. I ride Sundays and Tuesdays if you're looking for some one to ride with!

Cahuilla is the best track in the area. I would make it a priority to ride there and Glen Helen.

I moved out of SoCal 2 years ago after living there my whole life, 30 years. I think about Cahuilla dam near nightly lol Cahuilla and GH are your best bets. Perris isn’t worth the money, its just nostalgic especially if you grew up racing hot summer nights

I prefer Barona Oaks, but that's a nostalgic connection, I'm sure. Cahuilla is awesome, though. Glen Helen is rad, too. I'd skip Perris unless you're burned out on the others.

I lived in Huntington Beach from 2004 - 2021. Cahuilla is the best in my opinion of all the tracks. Nice dirt and some elevation. Not as busy as Fox. Their vet track is also the best in SoCal. It's a drive out there but well worth it.

I was out for the Vet race a few years ago, we went to ride Cahuilla and it was closed due to wind and cold temps…walked around some, looked awesome…..I”ll get back there someday….

Cahuilla is my favorite track in SoCal with Glen Helen in second. Definitely recommend

Thanks for the recommendations. I just saw on IG that Fox changed the layout of the vet track. It looks very tempting, however after all the replies recommending Cahuilla, I think that's where I'm going to go tomorrow.

Thanks again!

I saw that too. Note to self: Avoid Fox for the next 2 weeks while it's extra packed.

Update us with what you thought about Cahuilla!

Fox vet track will be a zoo by 930am with a lot of hazards on the track. You’ll be stoked you went to Cahuilla. Better track and better dirt

I was there two weeks ago and it was packed. Two red flags with ambulances about 15 minutes apart. I kinda decided then that Fox is a go-during-the-week type deal when hopefully the crowds are less.

I agree that  Cahuilla is one of the best tracks in So Cal.  Cahuilla can be quite windy at times (as can Glen Helen) , so pay attention to the wind forecast in the areas that you want to go ride. Have a blast!

😆😆 Agree with everyone else about Cahuilla. It's awesome. Park up top and you can see most of both tracks. I'm pretty much done riding tracks but if you want to hit some local mountain bike trails let me know.  The guys I ride with are all 60+ on pedal assist e-bikes. There's tons of trails in San Clemente and San Juan.

I’ll be at Fox on Monday if you can make it.  Cahuilla never disappoints unless it’s windy. Have fun!

Cahuilla by a mile is my favorite spot. I'll also throw in Cal City as it also has great dirt and prep, and is by all accounts a giant vet track, but it is definitely a long haul from the O.C.

The only good thing about Socal is the weather and tracks..

I live in Indiana and the only good thing about it is it’s cheap.  That is literally the best thing about it.  I miss snowboarding and stopping by GH to burn some laps on the way home.  Everyone here tells me they hate California.  Of course, the only place 90% of everyone here has ever been outside the Midwest is Florida.

Please broadcast this as much as possible to keep people away because SoCal really really sucks and no one should ever consider visiting or moving here.

I used to take yearly motocations with my fam down south from Oregon. We'd hit a different track everyday for a week.

Perris, Lake Elsinore, Milestone, Pala, etc. Like I said, SoCal is a fun place to visit and vacation but I'm so glad I don't live there.

1 less person on the freeway 👍

Ps. Good job shitting on the guy’s thread. All he was asking about is some track info about his new home area. Not sure why anyone feels the need to interject their personal feelings that have nothing to do with the subject.
Btw, you apparently live in a suburb of Portland. Take a look around 🙄

I'm just having trouble imagining a guy going by shooter88 and using terms like scoping fitting in there Smile Good luck!

There's more than just tracks out here to ride on. From San Clemente you're 2 hours from Ocotillo Wells, and about the same for Big Bear.

I'm assuming to ride on public land they would need to be registered, correct? It was something I was considering for at least one of my bikes, but havnt got around to yet.

I’ve not ridden for years but that said :

Cahuilla was one of my favorite tracks. Been there on overcast days in Jan / Feb and the dirt was stuff you dream about.

Fox in the week was good times but weekends was like being on the 405.

Barona was fun, always gave an old school vibe but pretty Stoney.

Perris was fun and I really liked the dirt .

GH have to say not my most favorite and a bit of a drive from here in Carlsbad.

Milestone main always fun.

TBH I’m not sure there was a bad track . Sometimes the flagging was atrocious, the watering questionable and the on track traffic was insane but the tracks were all awesome.

Edit : Elsinore was a shitbox . Just my opinion !!

^^^^^this

Can’t comment on Barona, never been

key word on Perris is “was”

GH for nostalgia purposes, I try to ride a couple times a year

Milestone was so much fun and sad it’s gone

Elsinore is always used as my last available option

Most Fridays and sometimes Mondays I am at Fox as I find it most consistent with dirt and prep and what keeps me going back is they always throw a little change every couple of months
