Apparently AC was contacted by the AMA asking if he was relinquishing his single digit #9. National champions can change their career number once I believe, so who would be switching to it do you think?
Does a SMX championship give someone the opportunity at a single digit? (Jo) Hopefully not.
Awhh, man…
Yeah, I'm a big fan of Jo, but being the champion of a 3 race series shouldn't hold the same weight as winning a National championship.
100% agree with this take

I’d have no problem with Joe returning the No. 9 to a Factory Honda
Just because the AMA asked AC doesn't necessarily mean someone inquired. They may just want to let Jett, Haiden and Jo know what numbers are available as a matter of course.
I think they called him to see if he wanted to keep it since he's eligible. He retired so he decided to let it go.
What about the #8?
No one is taking it. Hasn't been used since Langston.
You could argue that the 250 SMX Champion has amassed the most points of any 250 rider across the totality of 4 series (250E, 250W, 250MX, 250SMX), since they carry some points over in the seeding process. I think it's fine that such a rider can choose a permanent single digit.
The top ten in each class should change every year. Based on total points of previous year. 10 - 100 should be 'career' numbers, starting with champions, then working way down.
Points are completely reset at the first SMX around, meaning a 50 point overall lead from first to second would be reduced to a 3 point lead
I think we have a math issue with this strategy...
HD seems like a good choice for #8. Bring back the 8 Ball jersey
Earn your # …permanent #”s is just another ass lick situation….
Yet SMX points don't count towards earning a top 100 number.
It should go back to what it used to be.
IMO, only the 450 SX, 450 MX, and 250 MX points should count towards earning a national number.
National numbers. 250 SX is a Regional class.
It would make it tougher for 250 guys to earn a career number. Win a 250 SX championship, 250 MX championship, or finish in the top 10 in combined points. It should be that way because the 450 class is the main/top class of the sport.
But don't you earn your permanent number?.....
I'm all about you're # this year is where you finished last year. But that horse was beat to death years ago. We lost lol. Not gonna happen. Semi permament #'s are here to stay.
Pit Row
Nobody wants to change their number every year, that's a nightmare for any type of marketing for these guys personally and the series as a whole for that matter.
Someone already returned the big ol ugly #9 to Honda…😁😁
Yup!
Nice pull. 💪🏼
And I think it would look great, again, on an HRC 250…and…eventually a 450…again.
I'm sure you can figure it out, not that complicated. I just didn't write it all out. Fill in the blanks.
I think career numbers are fine through sx and mx but they should all run their respective seed for smx. Would have been really cool to see 32 run the 1 for the series as he earned it. I think it would also make it easier for the channel flipper to understand who he should be looking at.
Changing numbers every year is not a problem.
Market the rider, not the number.
You think it would matter if Plessinger was number 7 and then 52 the following year? No. Get a personality.
Personally I like seeing different numbers each year. It's cool to look back and see which rider had their best year.
McAdoo will have to run 3 digits next year. A veteran rider on a factory team running 3 digits is rare nowadays.
Macro should be force assigned “00” career number
22 Motorsports just took their shirts off
Dang. I think Pierce Brown will be a triple digit again too, right?
I think that Deegan could make the 8 look really cool with a slightly ghosted 3 overlayed on the 8. If that makes sense. Even if he couldn’t run that on his bike it would be a cool logo for his merch.
5, Possibly 6, 8 and 9 are all available.
