Opinions on who is the elite all around rider, past and present, Mx oroff road?, names like mike brown, everts, Ty Davis, rodney smith come to mind. Any others, seems like mx ers are trying some off road stuff and off road guys trying some pro mx!

Shane Watts would have to be on any list. In addition to his considerable offroad achievements, he also won MX titles in Australia and I think qualified for an AMA SX and maybe a National.

You mean guy's that rode both? Or they were basically off-road guys? Larry Rossler (sp?) comes to mind but he was off-road only for the most part.

I forgot about that - I'll have to get a copy of that race. Joel Smets also was a standout. He won his class in the '98 ISDE in his first attempt at the race

I think Ty Davis is on top of the list. 125 SX title in 1990 and countless major off road titles ever since. Mike Brown is comparable but hasn't had nearly the amount of success off-road that Davis had.

Malcolm Smith, Taddy Blasuziak, Magoo, Jeff Ward, Rodney Smith, Rossi. Any of those guys that did that Grand-Slam thing in the past knew how to ride.

Danny Eslick is sick no matter what he's riding and very easy to distinguish no matter what field he is in or what discipline with his style

Honestly, I think you are correct. But truthfully we are talking about people that have actually done something in MX and Off-Road (like the title states), So I don't think you can beat Stefan Everts with multiple W/C and an ISDE win. When I saw Knighter in things like "Last Man Standing", it was un-believable.

Knighter rides his 520 up streams like its a Beta. Theres heaps of footage of him training on scree slopes and up gorges in the isle of man if you can find it. Having said that the ISDE is the toughest race in all motorcycle sport how on earth Stefan just rocked up in Brazil without even having ridden enduro and won it has to go down as one of the most unbelievable achievements in motorcycle sport.

Nobody throws TP into the mix? I remember something about him doing well off-road in the few events he entered. Maybe he just never did it enough to make an impression.

Last year Jeff Stanton showed up at a district 14 hare scramble and surprised me by how fast he was in the woods... But after watching David Knight ride at all the GNCC's in 2007 and 2008, he would be at the top on my list.

Guy Cooper did some off road and was pretty damn good.

Destry is fast at everything.

Dehoop did pretty good in off road for awile.

Im probably gonna get bashed by all you old farts for not knowing my history and the real heros of the sport, but the first guy that came to my mind was Travis Pastrana. That guy has more talent on a dirt scooter than anyone i can think of

Not a current guy, but Dick Mann is one of the greatest all around riders of all time if not THE best.

And a shout out for Steve Wise also. National caliber MXer/Road Racer/Dirt Tracker.

many mxers can't hang with this shit, racing other types of events and scooters would have a few looking like a texas b rider no doubt. but i wonder what riders could make the switch and swap successfully...hmmm.
