I’ll go first. Last December I got a deal on a left over 24 KX450. Not going to say I don’t like it cause I do but I don’t kneed it. Have a 24 300 RX and a 23 Honda 250R in the garage. Never did get a long with the Honda, bad taste in my mouth cause I could sell it. Sell it heck, all but tried to give that dang Honda away.
So I decided I needed a 4 stroke that I liked, so bought the green bike. Green bike off the show room handeled better than my Honda. Once I strung the green bike to my weight, adjusted the foot pegs for my long legs, swapped bars to Windham bend ProTapers, Domino grips I had the green bike rockin.
Got bored with rainy Houston Texas spring weather couldn’t ride. Decided to mod the Honda some, give me something to work on and maybe make it rideable. Luxon clamps, lost a bunch of weight, new springs for 208 pound old slow guy and a 10 oz flywheel. Heavy flywheel really cut down on engine braking, easy to roll into throttle on a slip track (good fit for an old guy)
Well, my Honda went from hated to ride it to best handling bike I’ve ever ridden. I really think loosing 35-40 pounds helped to lol! This Honda is really all I need.
I took my KX450 to the track yesterday. I like the way the KX sets, fits me good. It’s easy to ride in non aggressive mode, with traction control turned up. But it’s still a 450 and I get tired quicker. Also have to be mindful of the throttle, even dumbed down it’s still a 450 when you crank the throttle. If it wasn’t for my wife killing me, sell my body parts on the black web, I’d buy 2026 KX250. I really like the way the green bikes fit me and feel.
In hindsight site I really didn’t need a 450 but I got one so I’ll make the best of it.
Anybody else bought a bike they don’t really need or should have done something different lol!!!
Financially I really dont need to buy new bikes. Its not very responsible but I have some sort of disorder.
As far as the bikes I buy I do pretty well staying within my skill and what riding im doing. I prefer to get bikes that I can do pretty much any discipline comfortably. So I stick with 250cc bikes. 2 or 4 stroke.
Most of my riding is in the woods now and when I see guys on 450s or even 300s sometimes I cringe. They can't ride them and are wore slap out in 20 minutes.
One of my disorders (one of many) is the fact I’ll buy a freight train if it’s on sale lol!………therefore the main reason I have a KX450 !
Is there such a thing as buying a bike that wasn't needed? My wife thinks that but we know they are unreasonable. LOL
All of them.

If you count the number of pitbikes I have im sure this total would be higher but the “didn’t need it/barely use it” top award has to go to our 1985 Yamaha BW 200. It seemed like a cool bike at the time but I’ve used it once and now it just takes up garage space… and quite a bit of space with those dang fat tires. Haha
I bought a 2002 RM125 just before COVID, it was trashed but the price was good and I took the time to tidy it up a a lot and get it running good again. Needed a new water pump, radiator, hoses, clutch, piston and reeds too if I remember right.
I rode it a few times, didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would and it sat in my shed for over a year collecting dust. Ended up selling it for pennies.
Got some cool pics at the track riding it though...
Most of them. I have too many know. Not enough time to use them all like I should be.
Several years ago I bought a brand new 2017 Kawasaki ninja 1000 Sport. It has 4300 miles on it. It’s a fun bike , but i certainly didn’t need it and now I wish I had never purchased it.
Yes! I've had approx 35 bikes since 1973. about 20 in the last 20 years. at least 10 were completely un necessary.
Bought a Stark EX 4 months ago, and I’ve ridden it 3 times. I hate it and it doesn’t compare to my ice bikes.
I don’t need any of them but there have been impulse purchases when there’s a deal I feel is too good to pass up.
Have to remind myself sometimes that, if I wasn’t planning to purchase it initially, a good deal may not be a good deal for me.
Bought a 2024 KX250 as a loaner bike last winter - rode it a couple times, brother rode it a couple times. He wasn't super into it so I sold it like 3 months later this year. Lost like $500 on it.
I will say that bike was slow as fuck. Good for beginners but tbh if I were to try to actually ride that bike for real it would've needed some serious work. Vortex, pipe, and fuel at minimum.
The answer is both “all of them” and “none of them”.
Your BW 200 sounds like my 2019 Honda 250F trail bike/pit bike I need like a hole in my head. I mod’d it up with Brazilian hop up parts. Bought it new in 2019, has 6 hours on it. But it does have really cool Tuscany Racing front and rear suspension I ordered from Tuscany Racing in Chile. Bunch other parts from Corona Racing in Brazil and others.
I look at it this way……….I have the coolest Honda 250 F on my block!
Yup....2025 KTM 450 did one race and then tore my rotator and bicep mid-May. Ruined whole summer of riding
I love buying bikes, new, old…don’t matter….I actually enjoy tearing down used bikes to find out how bad they are😂…just bought a leftover 300SX, price was right….probably going in for knee replacement soon…so probably didn’t need to buy a new bike😂
2000 CR250R- aluminum frame, why not throw some twin wall renthals on there and really feel the rigidity.
2007 KX450 - who knew i liked 5 gears
2012 Triumph Daytona 675r. Constant problems. I got rid of a nice 636 for a junk Triumph
Pit Row
35 bikes! Woah!! It doesn't matter what the rules are, you win!!
My first bike was a 1970 Yamaha 90 HT1. It looked sort of like a dirt bike, but it wasn't really a dirt bike. It was an Enduro that was too big for me.
I can't say it was a bike I didn't need, because I needed a bike! After riding a friend's Kx80, the first dirt bike I'd ever ridden, I was hooked for life. I needed a dirt bike. That's what I could afford at the time.
I didn't like it though. So I saved my paper route money for a few months, then upgraded to an XR75 a friend was selling. It wasn't what I needed either. I needed a smokin' YZ80! 6 months later. the XR75 became my brother's, and I bought a brand new Yz80C, again with paper route money.
I've been hooked ever since. I must, under all circumstances have a fast dirt bike!
I bought 250 2 Strokes and 450's when I should have bought 250f's.
Smaller bikes suit me better, took me way too long to figure that out.
Restoring a 1998 yz250, baaaad idea and completely unnecessary. Waste of money
About 15 years ago bought a 1982 KX250, the last of the air-cooled models. I raced a KX80 as a kid and loved the old uni-trak, rear-fender numberplate KX's, and had an idea of how cool it would be to race something like that again. Drove a 903 mile round trip to the west coast of Scotland to pick it up and by the time I got home I was already asking myself what the hell I was thinking..
Raced it a couple of times and it was slow and uncompetitive even in the evo classes and it became an expensive showpiece. Barely any spares around so didn't want to risk breaking it too. Sold it for less than I paid. Ouch.
No, unless you count the 11 in my vintage collection 🤣
Some you guys have issues buying bikes ya don’t need!
The one I have now. Bought it Memorial Day weekend and it still hasn't been ridden. HA!
Haven't yet, but I'm dying to buy a new CRF250RX.........
Yep…traded my 96 CR250 on the “all new aluminum frame” 97…worst trade ever. Sold the 97 after 5 rides and switched to Kawasakis until 2002.
Yes, although a dirt bike rider and occasional street bike rider, i bought a Honda RC51, first year model, VIN number 98. It was fun to ride on the open road, but it overheated around town (2nd year had two radiator fans). Wife got pregnant and I needed the dough. Sold it at 750 miles on the clock.
Got a 2022 150SX from an auction with a "non working engine" Turns out the Mikuni was just jetted so poorly it wouldn't run. Now it runs great.
Post a reply to: With hind site being 20/20, anybody bought a bike they didn’t need.
