Only $10 for all 2026 SX, MX, and SMX series.
I think the biggest thing is that is has become annoying. It's been crammed down your throat since A1. It is as if Supercross and the outdoors were just time fillers for SMX playoffs. Plus, the "playoffs" don't really work when it is the same guys racing each other that have been racing each other all year. Play offs work for stick and ball sports when the teams have played in their own regions all season and now it is time to put all of the regions up against each other - This is why MXDN is so bad ass.
As a fan, I have no problem with watching extra races. But also as a fan, SMX playoffs sound dumb and it isn't super unique. I think if they did the SMX playoffs and one round was a straight rhythm type race, one was a drag strip SX type race, and one was like a crazy offroad race like when Glen Helen does their hare scramble type races that use part of the Moto track and then go off over the mountain ridges, then it would be so wildly unique and bad ass and could start pulling in GNCC/ MXGP/ SX type riders.
Three reasons come to mind for me.
1. It's too gimmicky
2. The tracks suck
3. They push it way too hard to try and legitimize it.
The last reason is always a dead giveaway that it's a joke.
Rather than these hybrid tracks they build to incorporate "motocross" features into a flat piece of parking lot, I'd rather see the first race held on an actual EXISTING outdoor track. Then have a Supercross track. Then have the finale be a hybrid combo track with a triple crown format paying points per moto.
“World Championship” was mentioned in the broadcast Saturday. That’s such a joke. If it’s a three race shootout fine, but to treat it like it’s a huge thing is insulting to the core fans. But why shouldn’t it be, the broadcasts insults its core fans every weekend.

Good on these guys for having the opportunity to make some more money. I just want 12 rounds of outdoors again.
For, sure.
Core fans know that WSX is the only true sanctioned World Championship in stadium mx/sx. Don't insult us with all these new knockoffs.
I think few people have an issue with three more races (although one could argue that 31 races is too long of a season). The issue is the emphasis on "playoffs" and it being a "world championship".
The single biggest complaint I have is them classifying the winner as a standalone champion. There is no historical comparison for it, and a champion of three races with a gimmicky point structure should not be valued the same as full season champions. Deegan's pit board, for example, saying 5-time champ...give me a break.
I like the suggestion earlier of calling them SMX Finals, and being able to say someone won the finals in 2025, for example. Alternatively, just treat it like the extended MEC that it is instead of making it a "playoff" and for all championship. All anyone cares about is more racing and more money for the riders, so just lean into that.
I've got no problem with your first two points, SMX Finals is actually a damn good name. Holding them at night is a no brainer especially with college football starting.
There is nothing wrong with this idea either. I don't know if Gatorback can get enough spectator seating but it would be an ideal track to incorporate outdoor and SX because their outdoor and Mini-O's SX track share the same start.
"Points system - cumulative carryover and reset bonus.
- Riders keep all regular season points (SX and MX combined), but before the playoff you “reset” them with a gap (think PGA like this past weekend)."
They changed that. The PGA guys all go in level. Winner of the tournament is the champion. (Top 30 in points get to play)
just some thoughts … I would make the suggestion to move triple crowns and add them into the SMX, additionally, have daytona as a E/W shootout for 250s and count for SMX points since it is for all intents and purposes the original hybrid track that SMX tracks are based on. That would still make 31 rounds, 13 points paying SX rounds, 6E, 6W, and the final be the E/W shootout, 11 points paying MX rounds and 7 points paying SMX to crown the Grand National Championship based on total points earned.
Ooh, ooh, pick me ! I know the answer ! We take the top 20 from the 250 class , then we get the top 20 from the 450 class, and we put them all on 350’s. Best man after 3 races wins the one SMX championship and $4M prize.
I don't hate you for that idea, it would force all manufacturers to make a 350 which I am a fan of.
Here's my suggestion:
Drop SX to 15 rounds
Add 1 back to MX (keep it how it always was)
Make SMX 5 rounds: each round pays the same points, except the last round, it is double the points to put emphasis on the last round.
Points structure is based on how you do in MX and SX separately, not combined. For example, you DNF SX because of an injury and finish 15th in points you would get 7 points. If you finish MX in 1st overall you would get 25 points and would start SMX with 32 points. The total points available through SMX would be 200 if you won the MX and SX championship and every round of SMX.
It would add 1 more round, but I think a longer SMX championship would make it seem "more legitimate". I don't see SMX collectively going to less rounds than 31, there is too much money for the promoters to make, regardless of how the riders feel about it. I would like to see the riders have more say, get a % of ticket sales, etc., but I don't see that happening.
SMX may be exciting, but it is undeniably a gimmick that was created to combat the threat of WSX.
Facts.
They are a pre-designed poor thought out gimmick.
This sport is about over.
No horrible ideas here, if we went to more SMX I'd like to see the MX and the SX somewhat intermingled.
Bring back the orphan nationals. Texas, Florida and the rest of the Southeast would open up for possible nationals.
Keep 8 core Nationals and rotate the other 4 where they would have a race every other year which would bring in two new tracks.
Pit Row
Wait...I had water at the SMX at Texas Motor Speedway?
Because it is a f****** retarded gimmick it's absolutely completely b******* get rid of the three rounds take that money divvy it up into the purses to pay you guys further down the pecking order more money that way the guys could have a real break in the off season instead of this stupid playoff BS which is as retarded as the playoff BS in NASCAR. Hearing Deegan be called a five-time champion because he won the SMX BS playoff is ridiculous on top of that now if they made the last three rounds for the grand national champion the guy who got the most points between Supercross and the Nationals then I might have a little shred of respect for it
From whats been said, without the 3 rounds, the extra money doesn’t exist
You're not that naive, are you? It's so obvious that the promoters wouldn't come off the money until they were forced to by the emerging threat of WSX.
You think Feld or Davey Coombs just said, "hey, let's just pay the other guy's $10 million?"
I by no means hate SMX, but I think it could be better
speedway tracks only, St. Louis this year looks like a joke. Bigger, outdoor style jumps. I want some huge tabletops and step ups. Needs some elevation, whether it’s natural or not, don’t stay in the infield
I’d also like to see the combined points making a bigger difference. I’d like to see what it would be like to enter SMX with the points you earned throughout the season, and the SMX races having a higher points payout. For instance, round 1 be worth 100 points, round 2 200, round 3 300.
Right now J coop has 670, Jett has 580
If Jett won out he would have 1180, if Jcoop got 4th each round he would end with 1102 (72/144/216)
Increasing the points makes it to where the combined leader isn’t a shoe in, but counting the whole series makes it a heck of a lot harder for a part timer to be the overall champion
No, I don’t think they came up with 10mil, new format, and a new TV deal in a few months. SMX might have been pushed along quicker because of WSX, but I don’t think it exists because of WSX
Maybe it’s been said. But just bring back the Monster Cup and be done with it
The points seem like a gimmick but its more racing. I enjoy watching racing so I am all for it.
I don't think you're a business person, nor have you ever been.
The moves that you see in public are the fourth or fifth chess moves that have already been played out behind the scenes.
Oh man you are so wrong…..Let me guess you're a member of the mob…
So you agree that SMX was planned well before WSX 😂😂😂
The problem for Gatorback currently is that Wyn Kern's lease on the property restricts how many dates he can open AND I believe he's restricted from having a National. I think we're lucky that it still exists at all, to be honest.
