450 gate twitch? JETT DOCKED 1 LAP

Dock his ass a rule is a rule messed up the start for everyone around him 

In my 50yrs of racing mx, never have I seen such a penalty given. 

Where in the Morgantown Mafia rule book does it support that penalty? 

Yeah well the MM little fix backfired when Sexton wadded up like a rookie again, Jett actually gained point on him.

If they had stops on them, they'd be fixing gates every time someone hit it.

My bet is there is a shear pin in those gates where if you hit it hard enough it will fail and fall forward.   Otherwise it just catches your tire and have to pull the bike back and let it fall normally resulting in a huge head start for the rest of the riders.  

That gate shouldn't fall forward, Jett's being punished for what is essentially the race track's fault. Besides that he clearly didn't gain an advantage and there is nothing in the rule book to remedy that situation to avoid a penalty if it occurs.

Pretty sure I've never seen someone get penalised for twitching, hitting the gate, being disadvantaged and getting a terrible start.

Nothing against Deegan in moto 1 while chasing Jo as I'm sure he probably wasn't the only one to do it but he was outside the track markers coming down that whole hill to the point where Stew and Weege were like "oh...". He at least gained an advantage from that. Jett gained nothing from hitting the gate.

I can see why the penalty exists. It would make sense if a rider intentionally jumped the gate and was first into the turn. Need a severe punishment for that and I assume that’s what the rule was intended to punish. Cheaters.

But they’re punishing him for a mistake where he lost time and a hell of a lot of positions. He was third last a few feet out of the gate. Yet that somehow receives a penalty more severe than going off track and gaining time, cutting the track etc.? Feels like a situation where the punishment needs a grey area and to be balanced a bit.

Outside of Jett and Chase. Eli in beast mode. No rider in the field could make that mistake and still score points at all. Its effectively a DNF for most riders. 

That said I think Jett riding angry was a bit more enjoyable. He has so much more speed when he gets a bad start or is angry. He got a 17th place finish yet it was one of the better motos of his to watch.

He should have called for a timeout and asked Mike Pelletier what to do. 

No need for gate stops. There's really good evidence left, even if it falls all the way forward. 

Sucks as a Jett fan, but the 1 lap penalty is fair enough. A DQ would have been too harsh given he gained no real advantage. He went early, hit the gate, then dropped the clutch again and rolled the gate over forwards which still gained a time advantage overall. Pretty black and white rules infringement.

It wouldn't have fallen forward if he wouldn't have hit it

Many gates have stops that prevent a full fall forward. 

I would assume that the AMA would have a standard, but I don't know if they do.

Rules are rules, read them.

The name needs to be changed from "self penalising gates" to "AMA penalizing gates"

I think the penalty was too extreme.  Dock a rider 30 seconds, that sounds fair in my mind.

Shouldn't the rider who flinched next to Jett causing him to go early also be penalized? 

The entire concept of backward falling gates is to prevent jump starts and malfunctions. 

I was around when these gates were invented. They are NOT supposed to flop over forward on their own. Yeah, ok it might break when hit, but theyre individual gates, can be replaced easy if the track is prefessional and this is supposed to be an elite facility. 

Jump starts in F1 is a 10 sec penalty. 1 lap in Coombs Nationals is dodgy af. 

Cant wait for the bs to go down for the MXoN. Hopefully no issues to make the sport more of a farce that it already is, or attempt to make the FIM look bad. Imo

Watching that shit back In slow mo kills me Jett hits the fucking gate and still so focused looking down at the gate. Fucking monkey trained to do one thing 😭

Just playing this scenario through..

Rider A jumps and hits the gate but it catches his front wheel; he pulls back, clears the gate and goes.  No penalty as it’s assumed they have been penalised by effectively having to restart.

Rider B in the next gate also jumps and hits the gate but his gate falls forward.  What does he do?  Roll back to some undetermined position and go again?  Wait until everyone else is ahead and then go?  Or is the fact that the gate fell forward the determining factor and from that moment on you are doomed regardless of what else you do?

Don’t get me wrong - Jett jumped early and caused his own demise but I’m genuinely curious.
