You call it "cheating." Brian knows he needed faster bike to keep up with Haidens incredible Skill on a dirt bike. He didn't want to hold the kid back. Haiden needs more power for his skill and abilities.

I did forget all about this cause Deegan is SMAKING THE SHIT OUT OF THE 250 CLASS.

stock = 2.7

fully modded = 5.74 whp

Not to keep beating this but 3 extra ccs at 50-60-70cc makes a pretty substantial difference especially when set up properly. "Fully modded" i play around with motors this size a lot and guys share dyno numbers.

Think of a guy in the 250 class running a 265 kit. Same percent, idk man seems like a big deal to me.

None of that is condoning cheating or making excuses for cheating.  I never implied I'm ok with cheating, even 2cc's over.  I even expressly said it was cheating and that it was not ok to cheat, but because you are a loser, you did not show that screenshot.  Tyler D even admitted that he should have left the fully modded bit out.

I don’t need to justify it. I expressly said it is not ok. You have wrongly inferred that, that’s what I implied because that’s what you want to see. Sad.

Wasn’t there an incident in that class one year where the winner got his bike protested so that rider protested the second place finisher because they knew they were caught but also knew second were also cheating and it ended up being like the top 7 or 8 riders got there bikes torn down in a chain of protests and they all had cheater parts so the win defaulted to the ninth place finisher?

That was one of the proudest moments in Canadian history until it wasn't. 9.79! LOL. Our imported Jamaican Ben Johnson apparently got some rocket fuel "by mistake" and popped positive for banned substance. The bullshit stories they tried to use to cover this up were unreliable. In Ben's defense, he was just eating and drinking what he was told by trainers and Doctors... he was dumb as a post... but he could run fast.

I remember Carls facial expressions after that race and his on track interview. He knew Ben was juiced but stayed classy.

One thing to take into consideration thats been going on forever is a rule that allows going to oversized bores on borable cylinders. People would buy a new bike and bored to that last allowable bore size.

The PW is allowed to run .25mm 1st over and .50mm 2nd over bores.

This whole class is a cheater class.  Only an idiot would put a 60 kit and win though. But its pretty crazy overall.

The honest reality is a stock PW wouldn't even make it a lap around the track.  With a fine tooth comb (and someone who knows what they are looking for) every bike would be DQ'd.  Most are subtle with mods and don't overdo it.  The rest are blatant all out cheaters. Ive seen and heard it all now. Its by far the most cheated in class of any moto.  Only the few handful of dads who have been at that level recently truly realize how off the rails it is.

If you take a stock PW and put a kid on it that is 15 lbs heavier than another kid.  They are 2 different bikes.  Interestingly at any areas, regionals or LLs.  These large kids that could almost ride a 65 (some already owning and practicing on 65s even) can pull a start.

I know every class cheats but the reality a Cobra is a fast bike already.  Sometimes even when you add more power the kid doesnt go faster.  its not like that in the PWs.  The bikes are so terribly slow that each little mod is highly significant.  You can double horsepower

It's a weird class. If you are truly one of the fast kids you go to Cobra Jr.  It's really a class for the kids who cant make on Cobra yet and the parents that want to drop $4-5k on a bike you can buy used for a grand.  Dont get me wrong, I love the racing and enjoy watching it.  Just wish Yamaha would sponsor the whole thing and pit crew up a fleet of random stockers like KTM does at Junior SX.  That would solve all of this.

You can take the fastest kid in the world on a 50cc and put him on a stocker PW and he has a zero percent chance of winning.  No other class is like that.  And thats the problem summed up.  Maybe back in the day it was different, i dont know, but today thats the way it is.

So, that means that in order for a kid to compete, the parents know that they have to cheat, and every parent knows that every other parent is also cheating.  That needs to be fixed.

Either enforce the current rules, or change them, so that the class is still fair.  It sounds like, apart from someone running a huge overbore, the class is fair now, but every once in a while, someone is going to get popped and embarrassed, for doing what every one else in the class is also doing.

Increasing displacement by 20% is not alright.

If the bikes are too slow in stock form, then drop the requirement that they need to be stock, but set reasonable, measurable, enforceable rules.   Ideally the rules would not require every parent to spend $10k on a 50cc bike, but to ignore the fact that all of the bikes are cheaters is unacceptable. It's not cool that you have to cheat in order have a fair shot at winning.

sadly same thing happens in spec miata racing (and countless others im sure), for what it's worth. people pay 50% the value of the whole car on a "blueprinted" motor build for a few extra HP because at 100whp, every little bit matters. hard to enforce the low-cost spirit of  Spec "Stock" classes unless motors are completely sealed.

HOLE-LEE CHIT.  Its a no brainer because this is the truest sense of Win-Win. Qualify on your bike, race on Yamaha's provided bikes, just get you and the family to the event. Cost effective for those getting into the sport; Yamaha sells the bikes (easily, I bet none make the trip back to Yamaha) after the race, and we have an overseer on the only class that has one MFG.

This is the smartest thing to come from this thread. I would even say take it further in the other classes. Amateur racing has been hosed over the years with indirect cheating. The Claim on Deegan's 250F was the Fire Alarm that everyone heard and no one did a thing.

I don't see how they'd sell all of the bikes at the event unless they're the next year's model, or sold at a discount.

SM is still one of the best classes to race at a local level, with huge fields and reasonable cost. You're not going to win the runoffs with a crate motor, but you can battle near the front at regional races.

Racing always turns into a money spending contest sooner or later and people will cheat. It's just how humans work. See people doping to win age group triathlons or masters cycling races lolol

Anybody else considering how little Johnny’s eyes light up when he takes his first ride on his modded PW? When he pulls his first holeshot? When he wins his first race? That shit must be addictive.

Maybe I'm reading the room wrong but it seems like a few people are justifying the Rays cheating because "everyone else is" but from the outsdie looking in it sure doesn't seem like everyone else is....

By the way, to me this comment no doubt comes across as you blowing off the cheating and therefore "ok" with it.  Subsequently, you've definitely done a good bit'o back pedaling since posting this comment.

Not MagooFan, and I didn't back pedal on anything. Saying the holier-than-thou vital crowd has found their new villain is saying something about the vital crowd, not the villain, nor their actions.

How exactly can you justify talking shit on the "vital crowd" from your Vital account?

Crate Late Model racing is notorious for it too. What’s funny is that it started as a more “cost effective” option than an open motor class, but now they’re just as expensive to compete with because everyone sells all kinds of low weight/low rotating mass parts since you can’t make more HP.  Like PWdad said though, you can only do so much cheating before it’s blatant.

If everyone else is doing it, why didn't the other bikes that got protested get DQ'd?

Maybe I'm reading the room wrong but it seems like a few people are justifying the Rays cheating because "everyone else is" but from the outsdie looking in it sure doesn't seem like everyone else is....

If it was only that easy.  Most of the mechanics inspecting bikes aren't PW mechanics.  Its a highly modded trail bike essentially with a shaft drive motor.  There are literally hundred plus things you can do to make these faster.  You have to protest, put up money, and pick the exact thing you think is modded.  Its a guessing game.  You can mod the gears for example but the piston the same. If you choose piston and they open it up.  You are wrong and lose your money.  Other parent says F you. Most of the cheating isnt overt and is very minor.  Just enough to get the bikes around the track and over the jumps without having to hoof it.  You wouldn't even know what to look for unless you were one of the top 5 shops in the US.  I have personally watched an inspection official walk over various cheater parts in an engine without even noticing.  They can stamp the parts to look the same as factory.  You guys can disbelieve me all you want.  Im a former racer who never touched PWs and knew nothing about this.  I was in disbelief at how crazy its gotten as an outsider looking in. Take what you want from what im saying, i don't even hate the class, the truth is the truth. Allow some level of modifications or enforce the current rule.  Again the main thing here - If you take a PW from a dealer floor and go ride it at LLs track.  You will watch a kid push a bike up multiple jump faces.  You better never go inside or little Timmy needs some thunder thighs.

This shit is ridiculous. 🤣

So Yamaha gets to spend all the money on logistics, transport etc. and then sell the bikes at a discount?

All that to get folks to ride their bike in a class that is already 100% their bikes?

Seems like a no brainer....

Seems like it would be more economical for everyone to show up and buy a brand new bike as opposed to  building a bike to skirt the rules. They could take it home a sell and recoup most of their money, or mod the shit out of it and race it locally.

A very valid point when you consider that the class is  already 100% Yamaha's on the gate .  Really wouldn't give YMC any more exposure than they already have, which means it would provide essentially zero  increase in sales .

And you know that MXSports would want a sponsorship fee for the privilege of them providing bikes to everyone.
