I’ve had mine for about 9 months, I really enjoy riding it.

I do ride my 450 about twice as much because that’s the bike I race, as well as the limited battery life on high-speed tracks. Also, i love the smell of Pro 6 and the sound of a 450 on the limiter.

I believe it’s a perfect second bike if you have the means. If I had to choose one over the other and stick to it, the gas bike would be an extremely easy choice.

I will say, I’ve never had so many people come ask me questions about a bike. It attracts a lot of people who want to see it and know more about it.  I’ve given a bunch of people their first electric experience on my Stark, it’s been pretty cool.

I know a few people who have purchased recently, and plenty of others seriously considering. I think Stark is in a pretty good spot overall.

I rode one for the first time last week, I had been offered several times but declined….figuring I would end up buying one…. It was cool for sure but I will wait until I find a nice used one for a good price….Although I am getting tired of working on bikes😂…. I”m older and don’t like change….but I know the only thing that is constant is….change….now if I had a track on my property and noise was an issue…. i would have one already…

I see them all the time. In relation to how small a company they are, I think there are quite a few out there. Are there any sales metrics available to the public?

@8500rpm is right, Alta sold 1000 bikes in 3 years, Stark sales are on a different scale, more like 1000 bikes each month.

Can't be that far off from any OEM 450 sales, anyone in the know?

BTW, anyone seeing more Triumphs than Vargs at the tracks?

Variety is the spice of life indeed, find a bike (or bikes) you like and enjoy.

I definitely want to get one at some point. Just not in the cards right now since I picked up my TF250X in March.

I wonder if there will be more triumphs around once the 450 is widely available? I’m kind of surprised how few triumphs there are around, they seem to be great bikes. I definitely wanna see them succeed and stick around.

I was at a local N. TX track Saturday and there were 2 there. Didn't think much of them until on my 3rd session I kind of cross jumped a small table that sett you up for the inside in the next corner and a guy on a Stark scared the wholly Hell out of me by yelling at me and was about 2 feet behind me. Apparently I cut him off doing that and maybe it was a close call on his end? All I know is I never knew he was there, never knew he was coming. Even though he scared me shitless in the moment, I'm glad he let me know he was there. We could've likely collided.

Somehow I think he's used to doing what he did to me to a lot of riders on the track

It’s 100% the Stark riders’ responsibility to make sure other riders are aware if you’re going to make a pass.

If you can’t make the pass with 100% certainly that the slower rider isn’t moving over, you gotta wait. The Stark rider can’t be entitled to the position like they are on a gas bike.

If it's who I'm thinking it is the dude rips on gas or electric, and likely used to closing on people fast.

I don't know why Stark hasn't pursued legal recourse against the AMA and FIM for damages.

I would think they would have a good case but I flunked my BAR exam last week too  🤣

Same. I’m really happy with mine so far. I suspect there are many who are nervous about trying one. A couple months ago there were three others at the track with me one day but so far that’s been the only time that was the case. I get a lot of people coming up to me in the pits and asking questions about it. So there’s a lot of interest for sure.

My two buddies who have ridden it were very impressed.

Kind of like Jeff Walker’s crash last fall. I don’t think that would have happened if he were on his 450.

I have been snuck up on by a Stark many times.

Right, so now he just has to pony up $4500 for a honda eu7000 (any non inverter type of 240 generator is too loud to run in the pits), then load and unload that 263lb unit into the bed of the truck each time he rides.

Yah, yah , I took the bait. I don't have much time to be on here anymore so here's a lot of thoughts related to the quoted and other things I've seen.

Harbor Freight , on sale  ($1800)  its the same as the retail of a shiney Ti full system. Plus You can use it to power Your house if the power goes out and its very unlikely to ever get damaged in a crash like pipes do all the time.  I know , but its made in China........ So are the new Honda invertors.

With a Varg You don't need and can not buy an aftermarket clutch basket/hub or exhaust.  If You ride a bike with an aftermarket pipe its pretty much the same thing. Except the inverter will last for years. And You can get an extended replacement plan for $750, kinda steep I know. But insurance on a MX bike that would cover a pipe is going to cost more than that for 2 years. You could go trade it in on a freshy just before times up.

At this point its not worth arguing over anymore.  Unless You need to ride  long motos on sand tracks all of the time. or long trail rides. But for most motocross type riding the runtime will work for just about everybody.  And there is enough real world info out there now that if You are thinking of buying one, go look up some videos and forum posts by people that really own( not a buddy of somebody or somebody like me that's only ridden one for a short time on hardpack at a lower power level)  one and see if it will work for You.

The bike is solid and If You like them ride one, if not whatever.

Personally I really want one and will get one someday. Riding one was the most fun I've had in years. No matter how You feel about electrics, try one out You might really enjoy it.

Check out Starks contingency page. There are a bunch of series that allow you to race the Varg. Most in open and age classes. But I've seen  ,250 and 450 classes listed as well. So there are more and more places You can race them. One series in Maine , they pay $300 per win in EVERY class they pay in and pay back to 5th.

I'm still excited for what electric makes possible. An example would be the new truck from Amazon the Slate. $20K for a brand new truck. Yes at this point its not a legit replacement for most people who use a truck for truck things. But the point of it is that when You build something that uses more  parts that are shared with other vehicles , the cost can come down dramatically VS and ICE vehicle. If a company like Honda structured the development of electric vehicles so that the cars, ATV's, MX bikes, Street bikes, Etc. all shared as many components as possible You could see some amazing  vehicles at lower prices and higher profits for the company.  That along with the end user's ability to easily adjust the power and other aspects VIA an app. And the freedom that smaller motors  may bring for designs of the future are the things that get me excited.

250 or 450? Everyone I've talked to on a 250 is very happy. There seem to be some issues with the 450's

That’s the rule whatever bike you’re on. Especially if running stock exhaust. Don’t pass unless you can execute cleanly.  Not that I frequently struggle with that dilemma…

Hows that? You think an electric bike should be able to race gas bikes? Did the AMA pull the rug out on them? Genuine question

I haven’t ridden a Stark, but I used to sell Zeros and Energicas, so I am familiar with electric motorcycles for the street I firmly believe that anyone who likes bikes should try electric. They really are a different experience in a very good way.

As a Tesla owner, I love EVs and really want to ride a Stark. I'm sure I'll want to buy one once I try one (coming from a 2 stroke fan, yes people double take when they see my YZ250 on the back of my Tesla)

Short answer: The AMA and FIM have been jerking Stark around for two years with for the most part BS road blocks.  The prevailing thought is KTM, and the big four who do not have competitive E-bike was arm twisting behind the scenes.

I've seen a lot of my neighbors buy Surons and absolutely love them, and they ride the wheels off of them for the first few months and then the novelty wears off, they get bored with it and they just collect dust in the garage...I can't count how many Surons I've seen for sale "because we just don't ride them anymore", "Just collecting dust in the garage"...

I think that there is a possibility that electric is just so good and so easy to ride that it takes so much of the challenge out of it, that some people can get bored with it...One of the things I love about dirt bikes is that its hard...there is just a lot going on, and a lot to figure out and master...brake with your foot, shift with your other foot, clutch with one hand, throttle and gas on the other, moving feet back and forth on the pegs to shift and brake...so much going on that is a constant challenge and one I've never gotten bored trying to master...take half of that challenge away (shifting, foot brake-with a LHB option, and clutch) and I think it can dumb down the riding experience to the point that it could get boring for a lot of people.

Or he could have a generator and a charger no different than bringing gas

Significantly different then bringing gas. Have you seen how fast they charge at 120v? It's not fast.

Mike_Royce wrote:

I was gonna say.... I have one for my camper, but it wasn't cheap. A hell of a lot more than a couple gerry cans... oh wait, you still need those to fill up the Jenny. So now you need fuel, gerry cans, generator, charging cable. What else? I love the idea, I am just not convinced reality would be much better for my use than a surron or talaria. I would just boot around in the woods anyways...

I hadn't seen one before your post that had 240 and was that compact and affordable so I'll give you that, good tip! However it still doesn't change the fact that the bike has range issues. If we want to do a 40mi trail ride, the Stark isn't an option.

The range isn't great but it also depends on the type of riding. Tighter techy single track you could absolutely get a 40 mile ride. I've done 35 miles with 40% battery left....techy single track though. Fast paced trails 30-35 miles is the current limit. Which is fine for alot of people honestly. Moto with a generator you can rip all day.

No, you did not.

I’ll get heat and that’s okay, but watching them at my local tracks they look like cheater bikes. Talked to guys riding them and they said it was like when they switched from 2 strokes to 4 strokes. That said, I’m loving my 300 two stroke!

I always enjoy the Stark topic.  The same guys that think electric (bikes, cars, etc) are a fad are the same guys that called cell phones a fad.  And the internet a fad, and email a fad.  And now they think AI and Stark Vargs are a fad.  Maybe they should start a hedge fund with their amazing insight into the future.

And dump their fortune (and yours) into BetaMax.

I never thought that about cell phones or internet.... I still think EV'S are a fad. There is too many issues with transmission and distribution. Something better will come along before that is figured out. Maybe it will be a real solution, maybe it will be another fad. Do you have an EV generator to charge your bike yet?

Definitely not. I'm in canada.

I used to be the only one in our area (Week 1 order) and I slowly rode it at slow speeds at local MX tracks.  Now there are half a dozen or so that we see at various races in the area. I let everybody who asks any questions just ride it as they are likley faster than me and I'd rather they decide base on their own data.  Some people ride it and really like it, it's not for everyone.

I charge it with just an 1800 Inverter Generator. It doesn't fully recover what I used in a 20 minute session, but enough that if I start with a full battery and plug it in for the 35 minutes in between my session, I finish the day with around 45% battery typically.  If I ever get fast enough that I can't stay above 35% or so, I'd grab more capable generator.

Currently, not an issue.

This likely makes no sense to anyone but myself but my Stark has really made me open to owning a 4 stroke again. And I disliked the 4 strokes I had owned and went back to 300cc two strokes until this bike.  So my trajectory might be 2 stroke-Stark-4 Stroke.

This is definitely true for me. While riding the stark is definitely a blast in its own way it definitely gets a bit boring when you only ride it.

There is just something that's so much more satisfying about putting together a good moto on a petrol bike compared to the stark. I do feel like for average Joe riders it's definitely a cheater bike.

Do you think the novelty wearing off surrons is due to either having limited places to ride them or the limited capabilities of a small bikes?

I would think even with limited range having a full size stark makes a big difference since they are more capable and you can ride them on any ohv trail system without much problem besides the range.

I would have thought dedicated Surron tracks would be more popular by now but I guess not. Could alternate sessions with trailbikes and pitbikes.

I don’t know why the novelty wears off on surons?  Most people who buy Surons ride them around urban areas, so it doesn’t seem like a lack of places to ride them is an issue (and I see plenty of them on single track trails)…maybe they don’t have enough power to stay exciting after a while (where the stark has more than enough power)?  I don’t know?

For me, at least, the less effort required to do something generally means I appreciate it less…and so the amount of effort required to ride and maintain ICE bikes because of the level of difficulty of riding, and maintaining an ICE bike makes me appreciate it more, and there is always a carrot just in front me I can’t ever seem to catch (speaking technical skill of riding) and so there is always areas to improve and a constant challenge so it has never gotten boring to me, after riding for about 40 years (since age 4).  But I could be an anomaly?

I owned a Husky EE5 for a few years when my son was on peewee’s…he loved it and liked it, so I could see myself owning a stark, and I think I’d really enjoy it…

Sure did. Doesn't make a difference to me if you believe me or not. Had it in 25hp with 50% regen. Real tight slow single track. Normal trail riding I can only do 30 miles.
