As the discussion is going on as to how to reduce severe injuries and deaths, I was wondering which tracks do you think have provided the best racing with very few jumps?
I'm not saying this is the root cause of the accidents, or whether bikes are too fast/capable. Although it would be interesting to collate data on tracks & injuries to see if there is any insight to be gained.
Ultimately, I just want to see good racing and the riders make it home in one piece.
Flat track racing is really exciting and fun, no jumps at all, huge crashes though....
...or what type of jumps. I wonder, is it really the steeper technical jumps that hurt people or is it mellow big ones with huge speed? Speed kills. ...I think AJ Catanzaro made an interesting comments about him rather racing Supercross since it's safer, less speed, yes more jumps but you are not coming into the jumps 100mph... Maybe it's confirmation bias, as I personally am more scared of huge tabletops where you come in with high speed and the landing far ahead... slow speed doubles feel much safer.
Southwick ?
We have Gp races here that only have a few jumps

Probably the best race you’ll ever see.
Last to first in four laps. Start at 28:00.
Jumps are a conundrum…when you are doing all of them….they’re awesome….when you are not….they suck…
Southwick is more of a jump track now due to the new layout. But there was a time you barely left the ground there.
Dont the NGPC tracks have less jumps overall? Not devoid of jumps, I think they have some wicked ones over hills, and Ive seen some videos of a triple and step up. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Id love to race that series some of the tracks look beautiful.
Washougal is the obvious answer.
"Velocross" in south america is basically a Flat Track series but they dont use ovals, just regular off road tracks with no jumps
I do all of the NGPCs & they are all different but all have jumps. At pala they hit all of the jumps, even the booter in the back they don’t usually run but a few times a year. Recently raced marysville & we had a fair amount of decent jumps, including a step up triple. Shortys has A few tabletops & singles but that’s about it. I wouldn’t say less jumps. Might feel like less cause you do the moto portion then ride off into the off road for 5-10 minutes before you come back to the moto section.
A while back Mike Kidd attempted to get a new series off the ground called scramblecross. The goal of it was natural terrain tracks. It was a fun series it just didn't gain much traction.
I raced a couple of those, they were fun. Just old school natural terrain tracks. I was surprised it didn’t take off.
Racing on concrete with no moisture no bueno. I wish he could have got more tracks involved,
I just rode the little track it has easy jumps a lot of turns 1 is a quick rt to a left then a jump. Basically good to sprint on. Work on stuff like a flat rt corner try to enter & sweep it on the gas , cut the inside in a left corner with no rut. . The 04,s front end sticks like glue its fun cornering. I skipped the main track the angled holes etc ya never get a flow.
Pit Row
Glen Helen is mostly hills but it can be fast and you might poop your pants going down Mt. Saint Helen.
I don't know that flat track is any less dangerous. I personally know people that have been killed (including a generational young talent) and have had life changing injuries. The problem is what draws us in and gives us that adrenaline rush IS what makes it dangerous. At the end of the day, racing itself is inherently dangerous. It seems the majority of fatal accidents happen when a rider is hit after crashing or collides with someone else at a different angle of travel. It's an unfortunate and hard to cope with part of our sport but at the end of the day, we know what we're signing up for every time we do it and always have. It breaks my heart every time I see any story of it going wrong but without the speed and the jumps and the racing itself, what are we doing it for?
