He was a machien on the 125, Just remember watching him at Millville.  This was the year after the great year long battle between Ward and O’mara.

James Stewart

Jett Lawrence

Jeremy McGrath

These three are always the standouts in my head for most talented supercross/motocross riders all time.

No disrespect to the greats before Jeremy's time, though. I didn't get into the world of dirtbikes until the early 2000's.

That is the list I would give also

Look him up, you Bogan Drongo 😁

Check out some of the biographies on him - it will be an education. At least look him up on Wikipedia, for a limited idea of him.

A bloke that could compete and Win in Trials ( twice European Champion, before it went to World Championships status ) events, Dirt track / Grass track, then National  and International Championships Road Races, at times, using the same bike, converted for each season. ISDT Gold Medal Winner, Scott Trial winner, Podiumed  World Championship Road races.

Developed the Bultaco Trials Bikes, and the Hondas.

Has the record for the most Expert Level / Top Tier Trials event wins - well over 1000 - I think, near on, or over, 1400.

Runs one of the Greatest Motorcycle Museums in the World , and, does a lot of the Rebuilding / Restoring himself. Next time you get to Blighty, go check it out.

Born in 1933, he's still with us.

'Yer Maun' there, is one of The Very Greatest.

His Nephew has surpassed his TT wins, but Joey could 'cut it' at the highest levels of Closed Circuit racing as well, and, I'm sure you are aware of his Charity  efforts.

If we go outside Moto, Tony Bou has to be mentioned. Dick Mann, Kenny Roberts, maybe Ricky Graham. As far as Stewart on the list, he had to work really hard to be who he was, and bike changes affected him drastically, no doubt he was talented, but on the most list....I am not so sure?

Talent is a weird concept. KW and Lechien said over and over they rode a shit-tonne, so their talent was just the result of hard work... was their talent in making it look easy where RJ or RC made it look hard?

Don't confuse success for talent.

You can’t be successful in mx or sx without talent.

Hate to be a deegoid but we’re starting to see a new Carmichael like era of one rider winning all races.

Unfortunately, talent usually doesn't translate to titles. People that are gifted like that sometimes have a hard time working hard. Did RC have the talent of Windham? I would say not even close, therefor the first three that come into my mind in order of oldest to youngest are:

1. Tripes

2. Lechien

3. Pastrana

My top 3 are the following 6 in no particular order.

Bayle

Bailey

Jett Lawrence

Stew

McGrath

Lechien

In 88 American journalists spent time with jmb he rode sun up to sun down .  jMB,s brake slide into bowl turns people make a big deal of it. Go to a frozen lake everyone riding does that . Because that’s all u do all day is turn tracks , figure 8,s , brake slides , etc.  kinda of like a bball player just working on ball handling for hrs . All the smooth or talented riders r taller .

I think your right.  Easily the smoothest & stylish rider of all time on a 125.  My style is very similar elbows way up , legs bent , butt closer to the bike , rt foot off the pegs in the air. That way the bike does all the work . Only time u use energy is cornering .

While not a racer, the things Axel does on a bike doesn’t make sense to me..

1. Pastrana

2. Stewart

3. Shane Watts

Tough choice between TP and Stew for #1 but I think Pastrana has to be the most gifted rider ever across so many disiplines.

Grew up around he and Mike.

The legends I saw, showing up at the local sand pits, with him were awesome.

DeSoto, Karsmakers, Smith, Mosier, Moates, Croft, even Staten once.

Different era but I completely agree. Riding fast on a 500 with 6-8” of suspension was a totally different game. As a witness to the pure speed when Jimmy Ellis went by you he was on another level. Haden, Jett and Eli are on that level.

The shame is there are 100’s of pure talent riders out there that could do the same but will never get the chance to.
