Long time member passed away on Monday.  He wadded up on his mountain bike in San Diego. Myke was really cool, moved out here from back east and was living a great life. Gone way too soon.

Man, tragic.

R.I.P. MYKE.  It was cool hanging out on the boards with you.

Sounds like he was riding alone.  I'm wondering if he was riding with someone if he'd still be here.  I know it's tough to find someone to ride mtb with at all times, so I've ridden alone plenty but I try to take it easy when riding solo.  The article says it appears he crashed face first.

Wow, this is really sad and hits home as I ride by myself all the time. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Damn… I got to know him pretty well over the years when I’d run into him at LACR. Really nice guy, I hate reading this

Rest in Peace Myke

I know the timing is not right to ask this question, but why aren't more mountain bike helmets full face?  I always wondered that.  I don't ride downhill too often (only when visiting a friend near Knoxville) but it always surprises me to see guys bombing trails with an open face helmet that weighs about 3 ounces.

Condolences to this mans family....

Hot and heavy. They’re impractical for anything other than real DH riding or enduro racing

The really fast enduro/dh guys wear them when they're doing serious stuff. In NorCal at least it's not uncommon to see them on fairly normal trails too on normal punters riding e-bikes. There's a bit of a debate about whether mtb-specific full face helmets are really safe enough or if full moto is the way to go, at least for 20+ mph runs.

The real progress needed is in more people wearing back protectors like road race guys. But they're hot and rigid.

Woaa

We met quite a few years back on here i believe . He drove out to my place in Ridgecrest and I did some work on a couple of his bikes . We enjoyed some  rides at milestone / cal city over the years as well .

Thanks for posting this Slap.
