Probably he’s SOOL.  If neither of those options materialise you’d have to think he’d seriously consider retirement.

This was a brand new bike in 2006 that had never been raced before. It went ok. Especially in supercross.

It was also racing against bikes with 1-2 years of data tops.

2006 was Honda’s 4th year of racing the 450, and Yamaha had been racing one since Henry in 97.

I was basing it off of that generation of bike/frame, but I guess yours does make more sense. Each generation was a result of data from the previous one.

Did he actually here that or was it the classic Don speculation? ‘Why can’t he go to Phoenix Honda’ type shit.

On Daniel Blair's podcast he said Club MX had made an offer. Even if he could get the same parts for the bike, I'm not sure the pockets are deep enough to afford Tomac.

If the rumors are true about Ducati not having "Eli money," you'd think he'd have to really love the bike to go there since it would more than likely mean a pay cut.

In this situation, I think Eli and his agent could also look at it as a total package ; yes maybe a lil pay cut for the next 2 years, but they could also work on a much longer revenue stream (and maybe less taxes per year, it must be calculated as total per x years net after tax). Example: an ever green agreement to race if he wants to at selected events much after such as smx, wsx or paris, long term deal as ambassador, long term deal as training facility or coaching, and why not some new shares if available, and let us go crazy, fancy company car and car racing program as ambassador/vip. Everything can be worked out when both are willing to. I just hope he likes the bike and it would be ideal if they could find a way to have a cable clutch, it would make it easier to make him feel 100% confortable.

How many times did Tomac get bit by the blue bike vs the green and red ones?

That combined with him playing the Brady “retirement” card I’m not really surprised to see both sides going separate ways

I do know that Tomac had an injury and missed races every single year on Yamaha. I remember only a single missed race on Kawi, Houston 2018

Seriously...such a sad state of affairs. Can anybody remember a multi-time Champion of Eli Tomac's caliber being forced out of professional motocross racing because he couldn't find a solid ride on a factory?

I'll wait...

Age is a bitch. This is one of my main arguments against Owenjakes saying older racers are actually better physically.

Do we know if Tomac will definitely turn down a deal if the equipment is good and the money isn't? I don't think he's too worried about millions; I think the guy just wants to win.

Excuse my naivety, but why would Ducati "not be ready" for SX next year? I know suspension and gearing is different, but how hard could it be to set up a bike for a SX season which is 8 months away? TLD know what they are doing, know how to set up a bike. Ducati isn't exactly short on resources, what am I missing?

The bike has been failing in MXGP and even Italian round if I remember correctly.

Eli will bring stress test to a whole new level for that machine.

Triumph doing OK, some DNF. Beta not good at all.

Add to that, SX readiness will take resources.

Will be interesting to see if the bike holds up in MXGP rest of season.

truck wrote:

I don't remember many mechanical failures for triumph or beta this year but maybe I'm forgetting?

Triumph 2 I think in MXGP 250. Ducati for sure 3-4 combined. Beta much worse specially if you look at last year. Hasn't been that many MXGP races.

Also fails frequently in national series (latest 2 weeks ago).

Had a pro friend running them. 1 year and then he was off it.

So Ducati to handle Tomac? If Tomac rides for fun and money, go with Ducati. If he want to win championships I think he should select something else.

I just can't picture Eli on a KTM. After so many years of battling against orange it just seems wrong in a weird way. I know it's the more sensible choice but it's like Eli Manning going to the Patriots or Luca going to the Lakers (oh, wait). I'm hoping he takes the Ducati deal, would be really cool to see TLD and Ducati come in with someone of his caliber.

Tomac has options and is just doing his due diligence as he should.
Ducati would be neat if they could make it work.
Hoping all the guys stay safe and we have a great year of outdoors.

If KTM isn't good enough for Sexton to stay...do you really think Eli is seriously considering them? Highly unlikely.

Ummm...no. Can you? And, from what I've heard, the issue wasn't James as much as it was having Big James as a part of the package.

Roczen said the Ducati needed work still when he rode it wonder what Eli thought

I wonder if either brand would be willing to retrofit a cable clutch for him. You would think so, but KTM is pretty picky about stuff that makes their stock bike look like it isn't good enough. Remember how long it took for them to allow riders to use spring forks again?
