Such a bummer that Eli is getting let go from Star. Sorry, I don’t care if he was suppose to retire. It still sucks.

Has there been an accurate / believable breakdown of the Models of Bikes that are left unsold?

I've seen wildly different Numbers being put about for the unsold units, from around 140,000 to far, far more.

Then, you'll see "it's the Indian made bikes / it's the Chinse made bikes / it's the Austrian made bikes.

It would be interesting to see at least a somewhat believable account of what may be unsold.

The way things are going, I believe that the major owners of KTM etc, may well end up being Bajaj, or another Indian company.  Bajaj, it would take but a couple of percent - I wonder what they got for their reputed further recent investment? I've not gone into it enough to know if Pierer Industries (?) are set to go down  with KTM, if KTM does go down completely.

Far better Indian control, than it becoming Chinese owned, I feel.

This is all a sad, sad situation - especially for those employed / formerly employed, and, the soon to Not be employed, Plus the numerous smaller companies that have been damaged, or have to close from this.

Hubris, and the Mismanagement that can arise from it, is a terrible thing.

Agreed terribly bear. These people(KTM) had a responsibility to employees/suppliers/the community and blew it. They let people down that depended upon them. That Peier unloaded millions in property during restructuring speaks volumes of priorities. Hubris indeed, sinful amounts.

Hard to believe you fuck over your suppliers 30cents on the dollar and you can't get parts. Who knew?

Exactly this the suppliers that are still in business after that 30% hit are going to want Cod payments at a higher rate to make up for what they lost! You can't kill your supply chain and continue production! How the people in charge of this restructuring couldn't foresee this as it's pretty black and white makes me really worry about KTM's fate !

Herlings, DeWolf, Billy Bolt, Sexton, Manni, Katona... So many good names that race for the ktm group, must be all looking out for other opportunities, eh?

They were fooled by the inflated sales during Covid. They should have pumped the brakes like every other OEM. Instead they continued to over produce the same 15 bikes across 3 brands.

Agreed but to make matters worse, KTM alone makes over 40 different bikes (not counting various limited editions and such variations as S, R...), they have a crazy wide range!

In fact it might be too wide to be sustainable. By the same token, Honda and Yamaha "only" make about 30 different motorcycles.

Yea I knew the number was much higher than 15, but I couldn’t remember exactly what it was 😂. Hate to see a company struggle, but when it’s a result of greed, good riddance.

KTM 33 “Moto” including enduro and CC, gasgas 32 models, husky 29 models. Absolutely insane.

If they can't get part for the bikes they are building why would you think you can get parts for the bike they are trying to sell you? Just sayin'.

It's competely in line with everything they have done the past year or two. "Lets go ahead, we will figure it out". They stopped figuring it out a long time ago.

I'm curious, if ktm were to fail and you just bought a new bike what about parts? I know oem's are supposed to make parts available for a certain period of time in the auto world. Seems like it used to be for 10 years post vehicle year? What happens if the totally fail? Are we just going to be sol? I know the aftermarket will do a lot but surely they can't make everything you would every need.

I remember having to buy base gaskets for our 23 husky 125 from England because I couldn't find any in the states during that supply chain problem.  Just curious if anyone has any ideas?

I’ll do the dream build I’ve always wanted on my 125 I’ve had since I was teenager and then put it in the corner of my living room on a nice stand and remember the good times.

Then I’ll go buy a YZ250.

If they did fail either someone would buy the rights to remake the OEM parts, or someone like RM would bootleg everything that you'd need. Likely both.

Same. Remember when Husky was supposed to be KTM’s “premium” brand? Just another example of the mess they’ve created for themselves.

Not to mention the 50ish million spent on the building in Temecula when the writing was on the wall for California.   Won’t be long before the whole industry has moved east.

So it's looking like I'll just buy some new plastics and graphics for my YZ250 and skip buying a new Austrian 2 stroke?

Buy a Beta 300RX, or any of their two strokes really.

KTM's dirt bikes always have some flaws you always will get, snapping off side stand springs, leaking fuel caps, 4cs forks, on and on. You fix that shit or put up with it because the choices for dirt bikes of KTM's other notable features is few. But KTM tried pulling that shit with their street bikes too, which is intolerable because the competition in that arena is a lot keener.
