Sorry I didn't answer this earlier.  I just think the disparity between the two platforms calls for different classes.

The quick immediate power going up ramps, lack of clutch and gears, in sone cases lighter weight, seems to be a huge advantage.

Why does any of that matter?

Its not a race. It’s an exhibition to see who can do the most badass tricks.

They’ve never cared if one type of machine had better torque or was lighter weight than another type before. Dudes have run all sorts of weird machinery and all sorts of engine configurations.

Don’t want to lose? Do better tricks.

I don't know nothing about a stark, but if they are competing then what keeps the stark riders from installing a new battery that's 50 lbs lighter to only run for a min or so. that would also create a larger advantage.

Or what if some one just built a bike that was only 100 lbs and could do all the same tricks only better?

What keeps the other ICE riders from doing similar?

Somebody could have put an 85CC engine into a big bike chassis . Or used a trials bike.  I feel like I remember somebody riding a trial bike at one point in a FMX event. There have been riders that built highly modified bikes for X-games. And who knows what is done to the engines on the 450's used in the Quarter pipe. Big bores, how about nitrous?

For some tricks that would be an insane advantage. There are riders doing 360's like people do on bicycles on Trials bikes.  I would love to see a trials bike on the quarter pipe. If they could get the gearing and suspension to work for it.  They could probably ride them on a really big halfpipe and have FMX vert .

X-games booting electrics, has to be the last thing I thought would happen. I did not think there was much manufacturer involvement, and its always been so wide open as far as what bike and mods can be done.  Oh well, hopefully Kawasaki has their electric MX bike on the way so Axel can get on one and X-games can go back to letting them in.

I guess I thought they always rode the 250's and 450's cause they needed that power to do all the crazy shit they do. Where the electric bike don't need near the battery to get 80 hp for only a few min vs 30 on a motocross track.

They’re cheater bikes in these contest. There is no moving mass to fight you in the air.

Either everyone has them, or get rid of them.

Point is it's a production bike, anyone can have it if they think it will help them win.

Weird to ban a production bike because it's too good at it while special preps and prototypes have been admitted forever.

Nothing is preventing other OEM to up their game. Well, except this kind of rules forbidding electrics simply because they've won.

It was 100% brutal my kid soloed it I rode practice on Friday at the end of the day and couldn't believe how rough it was that was nothing compared to what it was at 8 hours in I'm sure on Saturday! He said the same thing after the step up jump everybody was cutting the track they were also cutting some of the back sections out and even some of the up hills that's how the guy won that soloed at 29 laps! Awesome rates for our first time and he's a moto kid never done anything like this he wants to come back with  a team so he can actually ride the course fast and not slow all day LOL

Is there a specific event you are referring to, because I believe the stark lost 3/4 contests that it was in

Exactly this…. No shade to Mr Evan’s, but where was he prior to electric bikes? Nastiest whips I have ever seen, no doubt about it. I’m no scientist but it seems clear to me electric bikes have an unfair advantage compared to ICE bikes in this particular discipline. Easiest answer is to have separate classes, we don’t want the japs or the energy drink companies taking their ball and going home. Imagine 40 stark vargs ripping around dilla or southwick doing 7minute + 2 motos. Wouldn’t take long for the sport to die. IMO

Where was he?  Putting out great video parts and throwing ungodly corked out whips, just like he is now.  He didn't magically gain the ability to throw these things just because he got on a Stark, he was just able to elevate his game even higher on it.  Colby Raha was already winning QP contests before Stark came along, but just like Evans he's going even bigger now that he's on one.

Bottom line is the contest is who can throw the biggest whip and who can send it highest on a QP, not who can throw the biggest whip and who can send it highest on a QP only on a gas bike.  There's absolutely nothing stopping any of the other guys from buying a Stark and showing up on one if it's that big of an advantage, the only FMX guy that's factory supported by a Japanese brand is McNeil as far as I'm aware.

And what about the athletes that cannot just buy a Stark due to their contract obligations with their respective OEMS?

Who?

Fmx riders have historically not been sponsored by OEMs

This seems relevant. It's nice of the X-Games to still hold a contest for the consolation bracket, though.

I thought the same thing when this thread started, they can ride whatever they want. Then I started thinking about the Monster athletes and realized I was wrong (one in particular).  I think there is a few that have OEM contracts.  There is obviously enough that don't fit that criteria that we don't think of any of them as 'factory riders', but the handful that do, possibly had some say in what is going on here with Stark.

I 100% think an energy drink had a say in this, and don’t think the OEMs did

A few of the guys involved are basically factory riders, and others have varying degrees of OEM support. Switching brands for a single contest in this case is similar to forfeiting your dream job in order to pick up a side gig at a place that has already demonstrated that they're willing to change the rules to make sure someone else wins.
