How do I block any and all Cooksey content?
Be an adult and don't click on it.
100% accurate. Also facilitates overt bias. If a poster or subject is not liked, users will downvote (anonymously of course) said post just to get it hidden.
If downvotes were transparent that would be one thing, but this is a cowardly move by vitalmx because an echo chamber is exactly what they want.
Wait wait wait, you mean like.... self control ? This does not compute Will Robinson

Another of those posts that makes me realize…
The kids are alright.
These new features are Kardashianesque at best; but, ultimately…it’s a sign of continued weakness.
It's a little early for an April Fool's joke?
Man STFU nobody wants to hear that shit.
I guess in one way, You don't have to block anybody if You do not want to. So for the people who have wanted this feature its there. I don't come to a place like this to just hear my opinion repeated. I won't block anybody. And I feel like blocking people You disagree with is what's wrong with the world these days. So many things are turning into echo chambers, where You are 100% in or 100% out. Can anybody on here , think of 1 person that they have ever agreed with 100% on everything? That they know and interact with in their real lives? I doubt it. Why is the world turning into that when its so unrealistic?
I can see how it may make it more enjoyable to not have to see stuff posted that derails threads and is just meant to be annoying with no other intent. I think that would lead to missing out on some posts that are in some of the less polarizing threads that I wouldn't want to miss .
Personally, whenever I have an idea for a project, new product or something like that. Something I want to run by a few people , most of those people are people I almost never agree with. I feel like it helps me get a more complete picture of something.
I like to think of stuff from as many perspectives as I can before acting on most things. And going to somebody that I know has a predisposition of disliking everything to do with me , is going to give me some input that I may be less likely to have thought of on my own. And I feel like that helps me make a better decision.
How about the option for users to make their thumbs downs public. So they can sign their downvotes? Then people can stay unknown if they decide to and people that are not wanting to hide can opt into showing when they downvote.
I'm guessing the reason they do not show who down voted is to try and keep people from fighting over it.
Up or down, I don't really care as fare as my own posts. But it would be interesting to see who is down voting some of the posts about kids overcoming cancer or an injury, etc. Stuff like that.
Every week the most blocked member should be kicked off the island for the following week.
kind of the vital tribe speaks.
Now, a few members should have permanent immunity.
I nominate Pro125. Just because you can't interpret his message after he has been hammering around fly over country while dealing with hot, Lithuanian dispatchers and trying to collect his money from logistics mobsters is no reason to block him. Someday scientists will find that trying to decipher his observations after riding all day in an air seat that will not hold 10psi are actually helpful as word puzzles to ward off dementia.
Rock on pro125....
I also propose that GuyB not ever be blocked.
He started this zoo, and even though many of us felt the sting of being blocked for minor infractions, I do enjoy the thought of him occasionally popping in and finding out he is a minority now with his liberal viewpoints.
I would also suggest that a few opposing viewpoints that are well spoken enough to cause others to at least consider them are rarely a bad thing, and something we can really use a little more of.
Block away my fellow v'tards
That’s the thing… people would see that they downvoted that post. Then the downvoter posts something else themselves, irrelevant to that topic, and gets downvoted because of people holding a grudge for them downvoting the cancer post. Then that original downvoter goes on a mission to downvote all the people that have been downvoting them. So on and so forth until the site is nothing but hidden posts with 10+ downvotes each.
If you see a downvote on a post like that… it’s the internet. We’ve all been here a while, long enough to know that there are and always will be trolls. Just ignore it.
But anonymous downvotes are the better way to go, for sure. If your post is 3 up and 15 down, you should be more focused on asking yourself why so many people disagree with you, rather than finding the usernames of the 15 people that downvoted you to do… what, exactly?
That's assuming that the people downvoting are doing so with good intentions, and that their collective wisdom is beneficial. There's good reasons to doubt both.
I got plenty of upvotes until I defended Rich Taylor and then spoke up and defended Haiden Deegan. From that point on, I've been downvoted on the regular even for innocuous comments. I recently wished a downed rider well and that got downvoted. I'm and adult and downvotes don't bother me but clearly, people are cowardly and vindictive whether anonymous or not.
I personally think the scales should be balanced and so all voting should be transparent, but vital wants an echo chamber so that's what they are trying to create.
@ML512 , can we add multi-quote, so we don't have to spam multiple posts replying to numerous people?
It's strange that they don't use some of the more popular board software that's available. A lot of that software has the features that they've already talked about and a lot of other features as well, which makes the user experience much more enjoyable.
That happens already with people getting into arguments . You can write something much more offensive than a thumbs down. Why not make the thumbs up's hidden too? They could cause the same problems with somebody giving a thumbs up to a post being critical of another. They are both really just tools for the developer , not the users.
As for what I would do about a person who downvotes a kid recovering from cancer. Maybe try and find out why they are so miserable and try and help them not be, if possible. Or nothing. I thought it would be interesting to see if there was a pattern of it being the same person or if it may end up exposing a bot. I like looking at analytics and data and find it interesting and just wondered if there would be a pattern. Or if it would end up being a mistake 99% of the time. On 99% of posts I wouldn't care to know. There's just some that make me wonder.
As far as my own posts go, I know that I get down voted because I write long replies, I like electric power for MX/SX . And people have posted telling me they will downvote every post of mine just for that, so I know that no matter what I'll get some. I thought that perhaps if their name was attached , some of the thumbs downs for the hell of it may go away and result in better data. And just like the Thumbs up can show that You agree and then You don't have to post a similar post saying that You agree .You could sign Your thumbs down to show you simple disagree and avoid a post. I think that if somebody kept seeing the same guy dislike their posts, they would become numb to it and not care. Like at first I wondered why I got the downvotes. But after the people posted explaining why, I stopped paying attention to them on my own posts. But I get it that people take it a little too seriously. My mother was a talk radio host before the interwebs and I have seen some of the crazy things people do when they really like or dislike you. And its made me want to avoid any personal fame .
.
The problem is that upvotes and downvotes don’t have equal circumstances; I doubt people will actively seek out posts to upvote from people that upvoted theirs, but people will definitely hold a grudge and do the opposite when they see who downvoted them.
In my opinion, if you wanted equality, it would be better in the form of full anonymity, with upvotes being anonymous as well. But I like the current system more. I think it’s cool to see who agrees with you, just don’t bother being bothered by the downvotes.
It’s as easy as a click to see the blocked posts, they aren’t permanently hidden. And downvoting is nothing to lose sleep over, it’s usually either a grudge or just negativity. I’ve apparently found a loyal follower who downvotes almost everything I post, I really appreciate his/her diligent support!
And blocking someone who you don’t agree with is snowflake behavior.
I don’t see a world where people won’t click a hidden post just to see what they might be missing. So it strikes me as pointless functionality
Pit Row
Said this yesterday. Doesn’t make much sense to me
Yes
Wouldn't mind if the downvotes were visible. You'd see some true colors around here.
Seems pretty universal that people want that. I'm not sure why they won't do it?
I think downvotes would be "weaponized" even less if they weren't anonymous.
Possibly, but the flip side of that coin is that if downvoting was transparent, people might think twice before downvoting. My guess is, you'd see less downvoting. Someone who downvotes plainly innocuous comments, or positive comments and the like are going to look dumb.
It would deter people from being jackasses and downvoting positive posts, but it might also deter people from downvoting posts with opinions they genuinely disagree with, since they might get “targeted” for downvotes later. If they care about downvotes, that is.
There had to have been some research studies done on this topic with as many angles as there are to consider, lol
By curiosity I went back to some threads regularly spammed by agressive trolls getting 20-30 down-votes, now that such posts are automatically hidden it's definitely improving the threads readability.
Of course anyone can still click the posts if they wish to have the "full" Vital experience 😆
The Democracy will filter out the bull-jive. I like the concept, I'm excited for the change. The silent majority can call the shots for once.
Is this a joke? I seriously can't tell.
Is there a way to see how many users have blocked you?
Someone must have Magoofan set to be blocked for everyone. 😗
He is showing as blocked for me but I never did it.
I read he was banned for knowing too much
