So when did this actually happen, when RC spazzed out on DB? This goes back to ‘22?
What if Matthes doesn't feel the facts point that way? I have said throughout these threads the media (including Vital/Swap/Gypsy as you are piling on Pulp) should be reaching out to Leigh/RC/NBC. They don't have to feel the way you do and sounds like they just think there are two sides.
The problem I see is not one media outlet has shared even an attempt to reach out to RC. Weege and JT saying RC is nice is also irrelevant. When Steve asked Weege on the moto 60 show, his answer was understandable though. He basically said all kinds of unfair stuff has happened to him (which is very true based on how long it took to get him in SX) and he could have walked away, but kept fighting.

The nihilist takes of “this was a workplace disagreement, life happens, who cares?” is lame as hell. People with fragile egos and poor judgement capped the potential of someone’s career and made them feel like shit about themselves because of their incompetence and arrogance. I call BS. If you allow people to treat you with total disrespect then you are a spineless wimp. To say that to be a part of the broadcast you need to be able to endure threats and brow beating is absolutely insane.
Larry Huffman was a customer of mine for over 20 years. He was 100% professional. He never felt threatened by anyone. He let his gifts as an announcer do the talking as he treated people with kindness and respect.

If RC had treated Matthes like DB he would not have been as nice.

I pretty much agreed with everything they said til that caller brought up the Arlington video. There's no denying RC was a complete jackass in the video, Matthes downplayed it and JT pretty much sidestepped it completely. Otherwise they were pretty rational. Not sure why DB thought he'd be announcing practice unless they specifically told him he would?

I dont really see the problem with what Matthes amd JT said on Pulp (I haven't listened to Moto60 yet, maybe that changes my opinion).
To me, it is 2 guys sharing what their personal experiences are knowing they dont have both sides of the story. Of course their takes are going to be opinions of spineless people, Matthes is petty and will hold a grudge forever and JT is the biggest "yes man" in the industry. They said as much. They are also both married to their jobs and have no kids, so of course they dont understand the place Daniel comes from, he has more to live for than his career.
The American media is a very weird tightly knit group , someone needs to grow a pair and say it how it is !
I think Weege does a great job calling races, and I generally enjoy his commentary on the Weege Show, but he has always been a class-A bootlicker.
But isn't that kind of a sporting commentators job? They are in an inherently subservient position. They exist to bring a storytelling perspective to sporting. There is no story without the athlete and without the competition.
The act of competition is really kind of boring from an observers perspective, especially the further you are away from understanding the sport. If you just look at it without context, without the narrative, without the backstory, without the drama, without the explanation of emotion and consequence, it's just humans competing againt one another.
These guys exist to bring an otherwise mundane spectacle to life, which is why it's also a lucrative, but precarious, position to be in.
I can't trust someone who talks shit about smoking on a air plane, it's very obvious Matthes doesn't know what he's talking about.

I meant bootlicker as in sucking up to others in the industry, not the riders themselves. I can understand how that could be misunderstood, given the sport we’re talking about lol.
I guess you would have to define what "sucking up" means. I see him as a sincere, nice guy who does nothing but bring genuine enthusiasm and interest to our sport.
When people were coming down hard on the broadcast team and DC during the MAVTV debacle, he came to the production’s defense and implied that a lot of the fans were stupid and didn’t know what they were talking about. I get it, he’s paid by DC, so it’s not surprising for him to defend the powers that be during this DB/Diffey/RC/NBC debacle.
I guess I was a bit harsh with my words. I do like Weege’s contributions to the sport. He’s incredibly passionate and has very thoughtful takes on different subjects, the way a real journalist would.
Next time someone says something about how hard it is to be an announcer or pit reporter for the network, as them to explain exactly what’s so hard about it. And even if they actually try to explain it in a way that makes some sense, follow up with “But is it harder than grabbing 4th gear and sending it through the whoops?”
