We are heading to Hangtown on Thursday for the LLAQ, running 250C Limited and 450C. My kid is C class, not B, and sure as hell not A. I guess we will see how bad the sandbagging is, and how bad we get our asses kicked. He goes to college at night, works part time during the day, and we haven't had a ton of seat time this winter due to PNW weather, so our expectations are low. I was hoping for a mudder but it looks like it's gonna be perfect, fast conditions.
Best of luck to you both -
He doesnt have any available results from 2022 or earlier does he?
Reminds me a little bit of my kid when he was going through C class. The AQ is generally not a big issue. It's the Regional where you'll see the major sandbagging with the top C kids probably running mid-pack (or better) B class times. Good luck and have fun because as I always told my kid, 99% of us are only doing this for fun.
An Amateur National Title being given for anything other than A class, has always been a joke, in my opinion.

Byron in 98 was a technical jumpy track threw the hills & woods close to the trees. In the back a triple the landing was on a down hill . 1st time I thought I was going to land into a big oak tree. Haha. going into a left banked sweeper into up hill triple land on a down hill to triple down hill into a rt turn onto the bottom. Then hit the whoops into a step up for the finish. A lot more to the track than that. The 125 class is basically 125 A of the 90,s. They travel for comp too iL. & mn. Canadian Fast kids travel 700+ miles to Xmas track in ne tip of the UP in Mi. District 16 Wi. Sunset ridge , Millville & Wi. Sand riders racing together. Pine Ridge n of gb , sunset Ridge big tracks too. My dads old neighbor boy won both motos @ sunset ridge LL qualifier 2 yrs ago. The 125 class races 125 c then @ LL. A lot
of these kids could run well in the 125 emx class. Midwest regional is at Millville this yr. Whoops I,m 4th wo that’s a straight away for me.
Thanks! He grew up near Hangtown so it's nice to go home and race plus see all his buddies. We didn't even try for Loretta's till he was 16. He qualified thru the Areas last year, and got beat at Regionals. Broke his arm in January so wasn't at 100% for either race. We def do this for fun - we have no illusions about his capabilities or future in moto. He's a smooth, safe, reasonably quick kid and that's good enuff for me.

A week after or a short time later 125 b, c . There racing pro ams with 30+ riders getting top 10,s. And hv there Pro card after a few races. Brutal winter I went past the iron man & LTM tracks yesterday a few inches of snow, drifts of 5+ ft in the ditches. Snowing in iL. , Mo. on i70 lastnight was 25 mph winds with hard snow. -30 with wind chill . Still below zero & another storm now followed by another storm tonight & tomorrow. Worst Winter since 1969 of me working . I started at 3 yrs old I remember digging wood out of the snow & kicking it loose from the frozen ground. My 1st exp of being Real miserable, all wet. & cold. Like this sucks why didn’t we do this in the fall . When I was 2. Haha
That is awesome and the proper mentality!
In 10+ years of racing & "chasing the dream", my fondest memories are when pops & I agreed that RC's records were safe from my talents and we went back to local racing on saturday nights with 1 bike and no trailer.....
And I didnt mean to pry about his results, I was just wanting to make sure that in the event (hopeful event) that your boy makes it, he doesnt have results from 2 years+ as thats how we got DQ'd AT the ranch....
Didn't even know that was a rule. Nope, no old results, no new ones either.
We do local stuff mostly. Did Mammoth once just to say he did it. He got sick as hell right before racing and had nothing in the tank at all. Might have been altitude sickness - we'd never been at 8000 feet before that. Never again for sure - what a mess access is there. Simply not worth the $$$$ and effort. If we make LL (very unlikely) I'm sure I'll feel the same afterwards.
Racers may not participate in a “C” class if they have ever:
a. Participated at the National in any previous year in any class. with the exception of any Micro or Girls class racers;
b. Received any type of OEM factory support in any class (excluding OEM contingency and trackside support);
c. Held an AMA professional motorcycle racing license in any discipline;
d. Held a WMX professional license at any time;
e. Earned a Rider Performance Value (RPV) of 15.0 or higher the previous advancement year (Nov. 1, 2023 - Oct. 31, 2024) in any class, including youth divisions; or
f. If they have raced in a “C” division in 2022 and 2023 and have an RPV of 13.0 or higher as of Oct. 31, 2024.
g. For more information regarding “C” class eligibility and/or reclassification, or to check RPV status, visit https://americanmotorcyclist.com/.
Just for perspective because laptimes at lorettas can vary wildly with track conitions. Best lap time in 3rd moto for each class 2024:
Open Pro Sport 1:50.7
250A 1:48.8
250 B 1:52.8
450 B 1:54.8
250 C 1:59
450 C 2:05.4
What is your definition of “a real C class”? Are you mad because you’re slow? Or mad because you don’t understand how much the sport has been progressing? Pay attention, it’s not 1995, its 2025.
It was almost 1995 when he originally posted this though 😆
problem is not my math... it is my vision....... looked at brads join date instead of the op date
There are some sand baggers out there in C class for sure, but if you go to regional qualifiers, Lorettas or Mini O's there is definitely a difference between A, B and C. Mini O's actually ran them all back to back in the order this year in MX and you can see it with your eyes. And the top 6 C at regionals aren't qualifying for the B class. It just isn't happening. There are wild fast B riders that don't qualify for Lorettas who would mop the floor with the C class. There is a difference at the national level.
I look at it like a way to get some sponsors help on all the stuff. N. Central has some Great tracks this yr. The 2 pics I posted earlier is the Mn. Round. Do the area Quaifers in 125 c & 50*. And strum up the discounted product or free & work bonuses in . Local buisnesses like National attention too it brings in more customers . More bonuses & a pu trk I can use , gas station get free gas, steak house to bring more sponsors to. Etc. my pal is a producer for the local news he,d get me on. I,ve been on tv quite a bit & did a couple commercials yrs ago , it’s fun & easy. Local track would Love it. Add everything up it’s a 25k +
pay day .
Hilarious to see this thread pop up,
I raced C class at the Texas Amateur Nationals in 2006. That year I lined up against none other than Malcom Stewart.
Took home a 10th, 4th, and 3rd overall, but let me tell you, not once was I ever on the same strait as Malcom lol
I also qualified for Lorettas in C that year but didnt go due to injuries.

I’ve been avoiding the Loretta’s thing with my son over the years mostly because he had zero chance of making out of regionals and I’m firmly in the camp it’s an overhyped money grab by mx sports. This year however I do think he has a shot and he’s putting in the effort off the bike so here we are. He’s got a dream of making it so what’s a father to do? I have not changed my stance on the overhyped money grab however. My biggest problem is what Loretta’s does to class structure in local racing. You have kids that truly are in their first or second year of racing lining up against kids that have been racing their entire lives with serious speed. This breeds more chaos in a class that’s already chaotic and imo isn’t healthy for local grassroots racing. For instance I wanted him to move to B this season. I literally told him we’re not doing Loretta’s and you’ll latch on to their speed locally and be fine. He was finally starting to accept that plan until he decided he’d stay C and give Loretta’s a shot for one season. So in essence he’s now potentially a local C sandbagger because he’s got zero prayers in qualifying in Loretta’s B. I don’t have the answers on how to fix it but it needs fixed imo.
been awhile since I promoted or worked any area or regional qualfiers.
have the areas changed?
at one time if you went to an area and got top 15 or so you could send in to go to regional.
they would run qualifiers at the regional to get it down to a full gate, split class for first moto, then a LCQ to get it down to a full gate for the second and third motos.
70 or more C riders at a regional....... Ka Ching.....
good luck with all that
Just ask him if he wants to post on social media that he won the local novice class but got 39th in the national novice class because one rider dnf’d and it only cost him $7,500 to do it
The story telling in here… Malcom raced Loretta’s 6 times before going to big bikes. He raced B in 2006, not C. Same with Jeff Alessi, had been 5 times already and raced 85s at LL in 02 and 03, not C. He went B class in 2004. Neither one of those riders were eligible to race in C ever.
Something’s on the edge of your mind . Your not sure what it is. Something your searching to find. Your not sure what it is. Then You hear and see the DBP. And it all becomes Crystal Clear. Profeshenal & The DBP bring the Magic & the spiritual Power . Your searching to hear.
your young now your wild now . You see everything Crystal clear . You got the Magic of the DBP to set you Free.
See the 4 tracks there all awesome. Full gates fun local q,s r cheaper . Millville practice fri race sat,sun memorial weekend & get it dialed. If I don’t get sponsors to pay for LL. I don’t go simply as that. I need a few neck, back, hip, rear of shoulder injections . Then I,m good . Remember in 83 I had numerous D1 bball offers & football 4 the Badgers even tho I did not play ft. 68+ vertical, flat 10 100, tap a quarter off the top of a backboard. I had to pay rent in 10th grade during the season . Mom wouldn’t let me access my savings of ovr 3k money saved working 4 farmers. Forced me to get a job . Not a phenom teen anymore but physically still wayy more than anyone on the gate. And I Love extreme heat & humidity. Total waste of time trucking out here. I,m sure Mav will post my pic when I was off injured for 9 + weeks doing nothing. Any 1 with 1/2 a brain could see that persons body has it. If I exercise a couple times it’s a Olympic level bod.
Jeff Alessi and Mike LaPaglia both raced C class at Ponca City the first year they were on big bikes, I was there, even after racing LL’s on mini’s several years. For some reason Ron Henrickson (NMA) allowed it. They did not race C class the following week at LL.
It's still the same, just more money. $1000 for an Area weekend, a little more for Regional depending on travel. My wallet is hoping we don't make the Finals.
1k it says 60 bucks per class or classes for locals. Track fees probably higher than 30 , 35 bucks per class , plus gate fees.
You pay the regular entry fee and then on top of that you have to pay the LL fee if you are trying to qualify. Remember that when you are going for +50 and C class on your 125…plus the promoter knows this is his cash cow race so they jack up the gate fee, add some golf cart/pit bike fees, you need to run the extra 15 minute practice the day before for $50. And then add gas and lodging because it’s not a local race for many…not hard to add up to $1k
Yup, plus food and fuel for 3 days at the track. Gas to get there and back will be $500 since it's 600 miles one way from Portland to Hangtown withy lots of big climbs getting 10 MPG with the trailer. Hotel for 4 nights is $585. Sold the toy hauler so not camping at the track this time. $1000 is low for this weekend - it'll exceed $1500 for sure cause I am gonna DESTROY some sushi at Mikuni's while I am there. It will be $1000 for Washougal Regionals since it's local to me. I bet I've spent $15-20k a year the last 2 years on racing, and we are nobody.
