I’ll be interested to see what the reviews on these are. Lots of people scoff at you at the track if you’re not running MX34s, but one thing I learned from working in a motorcycle shop for a few years was that budget tires have a huge place in our sport.
I don’t see tires as being an easy market to enter into.
Turn 14 Distribution acquired all of the Pro Taper assets. Tucker Rocky itself was dismantled.
Very interesting. I love PT products but I'll stick to my Dunnies just for peace of mind (and confidence).
I vaguely remember something with the Pro Taper and Turn 14 distribution acquisition, someone came on here and claimed some sort of fraud by Turn 14? Does anyone else remember something similar?
Seems like it was a year or so ago when there was a lot of talk of Pro-Taper maybe going under and it was hard to get product from them. Hope this is a sign that things are looking up for them?
I don't know much, but I do know Tucker went bankrupt and a lot of vendors got the shaft. Turn 14 took what was left over and ran with it.
When I worked at the dealership it was a running joke every month that Tucker was going under lol. It went on for years.
Anyone know if these are another tire we're already familiar with and just being sold under the PT label? Or maybe a "Tire A" tread pattern with a different compound to make them available to PT?
All my years of racing (slowly), I never understood tires. In my teens I barely paid attention to tire pressure, just ran them as hard as a rock. In my vet years, I was better about running reasonable pressures, but couldn’t give a damn about tread patterns or wear. I figured if I was losing traction it was rider error and could be corrected with proper body positioning. Probably why I never made it out of C class.
I’d buy these hoops, lol.
Looks like a MX34 knockoff to me.
You can only make a tire pattern so many ways. Why even bother trying to enter a market with such a small profit margin?
I’m Weird tread pattern and $18 more than the Tusk tires that are pretty established at this point. I’m sure these are made in China as well.
People on here will act like they need a fresh set of MX34s to ride vet C speeds.
A friend just showed a picture of a wig racing tire. A scoop he bought off Amazon that looks decent. Anyone try one of these?
Pit Row
I struggle with new rear tires because too much traction…wheelies and shit. Hard to control out of corners.
Iam probably better off with cheaper tires.
Couldn't tell you, but I have seen them on a number of FB Marketplace gems that also had one of those super-strong, color-coordinated "racing chains" bought off Amazon.
Hope they aren't two peas in a pod.
yea, not like having tires that have grip and are predictable would add to things like safety though. Stupid thought that is
Wonder if this will effect people sponsored by Dunlop.
Careful, I made a similar joke in the Factory Spec Dunlop thread and in someone else’s words it means “I’m hating on the Moto community”.
I don’t care who spends how much on whatever part, but a lot of people blaming their tires for their performance usually don’t have great knowledge on setting up a bike or even using clickers to adjust suspension. Just say you want the cool stuff, not that you need it.
put a rear wig on my eride pro. not the scoop. its ok, i only have the stock bicycle tire to compare it to tho. i would have got the tusk but they were back ordered at the time.
Not much help, but I have Wig on my pit bike. Good tire for that application.
Are Pro taper handle bars even available yet ?
100% this is some bargain bin tire and Pro Taper is just slapping their name on them. Did they announce this at Eicma or Aim Expo? Seems their isn’t much marketing behind it. Nothing posted on their socials 🤔
I can't believe anyone buys Dunlops. They mount up horrible and don't last nearly as well as a Michelin or Bridgestone. They perform worse in my opinion also. I'd run a Tusk tire before buying another Dunlop. I got off them in 2000 and haven't looked back aside from the occasional bike that came with them and thought they sucked.
Don't be cheap w/ your tires. Find the ones that work best for you and your local dirt and stick with them. If you stay on the same tire, you will build a feel for it, good & bad.
And just because the knobs look good still, doesn't mean it's not beat. These sidewalls break down, which is not visible.
I bought a used cr 250 that had a maxxis tire (never had a maxxis) on the rear, it slid into a highside situation in 4th gear. I got broke, bad.
Know your tires! It matters.
These look to be promising. Ever since T14 took over Tucker, they've been trying to make moves in the powersports industry. The company I work for is their top customer for the sport compact world, it's been awesome seeing more off road brands being added to their lineup.
Albeit a slow start, but Turn has all the bones to make what Tucker was, that much better. I'm excited to see what the future holds for all their house brands!
