I'm a Pulp Simp and I love Steve and all he says and does but this is a bad idea... I disagree.

If they do this, are they going to do a briefcase opening to determine gate pick???

Ask RJ about two row starts from the 1985 Rodil Cup World Supercross at the L.A. Coliseum.

Nope they need to do an A main and B main keeps different levels separate and MORE RACING. Dump the kid crap and MORE racing. You see dog and pony shows at other Motorsports events oh the circus people owns this.

Go full chaos and do it at the triple crown. First moto is fastest qualifiers on the front row, second moto is fastest qualifiers in the back row, and third moto is fastest qualifiers in the front row again.

-Set a rule that the line after the first turn has to be a minimum length. A1 was stupid short and every start had chaos

-20 rider main

-No bridge in the middle

-No metal grates

-No Holeshot devices

-A last point that might not be popular, make the gate more advantageous to first pick. No funnel. 1 inside gate should be straight to the first turn rather than staight to the tough blocks. If you have the first pick, you could line up more on the outside if you want a better angle to drive into the first turn but the first gate should be straight to apex.

Nice - great ideas.   What's your thoughts on having some right handed first turn starts in SX?

I much prefer the equality that a single-row start provides. Every now and then, a privateer holeshots and we get a crazy race! (Or, at least that guy has a great finish.)

I think there are several more things we could do to make the tracks more interesting and still have a wide start. DV's suggestions come to mind, and I like the way they have been crossing the start stretch multiple times this year.

Getting rid of grates and hole-shot devices is so obvious, but it doesn't happen.  Who is the opposition to it?

I’d guess the teams and riders don’t want to get rid of them

On paper a 2 row start sounds good. Top 5 from each heat get the front row. Keeps the fast guys out front right away without having to deal with slower riders. Its safer for the first turn.

But this is Supercross...Its men who duke it out for that first turn with 20 guys drag racing. You have to earn every position. Its the only racing sport that starts all competitors as equals.

Instead of 2 row starts, why not whoops right out of the gate. Also, I want a 450, 250, and 125 sx class every night.

I’d like to see it on paper. To scale.

To add onto the taking away of things that help people get starts, or whatever you want to call it, take away the rpm lights, traction control and start maps, yes the bikes can have the other maps for racing, but no start maps. The only skill involved right now is reaction time and releasing the clutch. Also, not split starts in supercross or smx if we aren't at tracks that aren't daytona, r the dragstrip/nascar tracks.

start devices dont need to be done away with, just limit how far it can pull the front down. 2inches lower makes a difference in starting but its a lot less than almost the full travel theyre getting to

Grates, start devices, and maps for the stars all make the start faster, but they don't make for better racing and they do make it a faster and therefore more dangerous start.  I'd vote for getting rid of them before a two row start.  But pulp says we're all idiots anyway so it doesn't matter what us ticket buyers think.

If there was a two row start, slower riders starting in the back would get lapped even quicker.  Couple a two row start with pulling anyone not on the lead lap and then it could be an improvement.

I think for the most part DV is right, but I think as a one off, this design worked

Lap times were still decent, so the wasted space didn’t matter much

If it weren’t for the second start straight we would have lost 2 awesome sections. The triple before the finish was awesome to watch, and it didn’t seem like not tripling crippled performance, that’s a perfect scenario.
The wall before the finish was also terrific, watching people roll and spray the people behind them was cool, as was watching dudes absolutely launch it
