Yes, the dealers should be proactive in building relationships with customers. I can accept being understaffed, but employing people who do not care and that are seemingly miserable to be at work will not get my money, especially if you are charging more than I can get it online. I'm getting the same level of service from powersports dealers as I get from auto dealers these days. The times have changed.

Anyhow, Rocky Mountain ATV/MC is my go to for parts and accessories because accepting the occasional crappy packaging is easier than the disappointment from my local dealers.

I kind of have the opposite problem.  I think the employees at my local shop might be on commission.  When I go in there I get blanketed by a salesman (or often woman).  Sometimes I just want to browse and see what they have.  But instead I get somebody following me around and asking questions.  "Do you ride?"  "What kind of bike?"  "Where do you ride?"  "How often do you ride?"

I concur with you on this and have had the same issue there. I buy fuel and tires there and that's about it.

Funny, kinda related story, I walked into N.P.B.S. two days after xmas with a big wad of cash to buy some mtb stuff to go with my new Moro and while I was checking out a shock pump the owner walked up, and without even a hello said "You know that is a shock pump and not a tire pump, right?" I said yep and immediately walked out the door and I will never return. I went down the street to Michael's Bike shop and proceeded to drop a g on parts and service.

Never ONCE have I had an issue with RMATV.    Their customer service has been top notch.   Ordered things arrive very quickly.

I ordered something last year that was out of stock with my DB/MXA gift cards....the order got cancelled and I missed the notice somy DB/MXA gift cards expired.   I called up RMATV and they reissued new cards.

I had a similar issue with the MXA RM gift card. Had been expired about a week and I reached out to them to try to still use it, they wouldn’t do anything for me to use it.

I do agree their packing skills have degraded over the last few years. Been ordering from them for many years now.

Follow up on this one - replacement package arrived 2 days after I talked to CS. Very well packed, no issues.

If its not attached to your house and its zoned for commercial you could get set up most likely. You need normal business and a few other things too. I work for PU but I'm not in your area. Feel free to PM me and I could help you see if it would work for you. I have had several shops like you that didn't think they could get set up because they didn't have a fancy building or whatever and were wasting a ton of money trying to go through RM or other avenues.

Im sure im not alone in feeling this way, its impossible. Ive been a rocky mountain atv dealer for about 10 years now, i dont spend crazy money with them but I use them as my sole provider of parts and apparel to the tune of about 50k per year. The last 2 years have been nothing but trouble, mostly with shipping and packaging, we wont discuss them slowly taking items out of our dealer program (and not letting us know until we order them and the order gets cancelled after the fact), or the fact that we cant even order OEM parts at all anymore (it used to just be the austrian group). Last thursday i received an order, absolutely MISERABLY packaged. It was 2 Dunlop 34's (big bike) in a box with a yamaha genuine top end kit, yamaha genuine clutch kit, yamaha OEM cam chain, (OEM parts ordered from personal non dealer account) and an NGK spark plug. All of this stuff floating around in a box, delicate parts and no packing material (air bags, peanuts, paper, NOTHING). When i opened the box, the cam chain was gone, the spark plug was rolling around outside of its box, and the tires were on top of the top end kit. Long story short, after a 15 minute argument over a $25 dollar timing chain they agreed to send a new one. Shouldve been here saturday but never showed up. Sunday night, in an effort to get this job out the door ASAP, i paid for another timing chain. Here we are on wednesday, that chain should be delivered today if it shipped monday, USPS tracking says they still havent received the package. Sorry for the vent but this company is on their way downhill and its sad. If anyone from RM is reading this, get your shit together please, we depend on you.

They have guidelines that I can not meet, the biggest one is a store front. My business is repair and maintenance, I dont want a store front, retail, and 10k minimum inventory.

Come to the expo and talk to the other distributors. There are smaller ones that will sign you up.

You dont get your OEM parts from your local dealer at a really good discount ?

The only thing that’s pissed me off about Rocky Mountain was about a year ago I ordered a Tusk countershaft seal kit because mine was leaking on my KTM. Installed everything to a T, filled the bike with oil and the next day I came out there was a puddle of oil under the bike again. I ordered two spare OEM seals when I ordered the kit to get free shipping and because I thought they’d be good to have around. When I pulled the countershaft seal and collar I had just installed I noticed the metal bushing/collar that goes into the seal tapered off a hair early compared to the OEM one, and when installed the edge of the seal rode right where it started to taper off so obviously it was going to leak even without the bike being ran.

I cleaned up the OEM collar that had a slight groove, pulled the junk Tusk seal out of the bike, and installed a new OEM seal and the collar with 100+ hours on it, no leaks!

I contacted RMATV to let them know the issue and to see if maybe I could get a refund since not only that whole Tusk kit was a complete waste, but I also wasted the near quart of oil I put in the bike after I thought it was fixed. They wanted me to pull the OEM collar back out of the bike and send them photos with the Tusk one and the OEM one side by side showing the tusk one was defective, and then they wanted me to ship it back to them with the Tusk seal that was in the trash. It was $30 or so in parts so I wasn’t about to do all of that just for them to maybe give me $30 back, but it really chapped my ass the way it was handled.

My issue was different, but the overall theme was the same. I’d been buying from them for more than a decade, had an issue with one order, and the reps on the phone treated me like I was a scammy customer who needed to prove my honesty before they would make good on their mistake. Chapped my ass is a good way to put it.

I won’t use tusk seals or bearings for this reason. When it comes to engines and chassis, I’m using a quality brand with a track record

Problem for both @Rickyisms and @TheGetFresh is that they have quite likely been hit by a shit ton of scammy customers. The misdeeds of others have affected how they have to deal with customers. With tight margins these days it doesn't take too many before it starts really hitting the bottom line.

The guy goes 0-300MPH into arguments with anyone and everyone.  His making shit up about people is an artform.    At night when the demons come, I swear he must be screaming at them too.    I tuned him out long ago.

Be careful he'll end up stalking you like he does with me. 🤣

Ha, this guy thinks he sees demons at night. Dork.

Lungbutter isn’t even wrong about stealing designs, he was spot on.  Some people aren’t smart enough to understand intellectual property and what goes into designing and manufacturing a new product.

I got a package today that came from the Kentucky warehouse and it had plenty of packing. First time this has been the case in a long time. Either someone from RM was notified of this thread or it’s a crazy coincidence.

I used to love Rocky Mountain but as their business model has become more and more driven by ripping off the designs of other companies' products and selling them under the Tusk Brand, I've found myself shopping there less and less.

I shop there more now because of the tusk brand. Same quality 1/3 of the price.

I’ll take a $10 air filter over a $30

Agreed. My last two tires came in boxes when they were always wrapped in plastic previously.

I had a bonus gift Honda air filter in my last order (and the only Honda I own is a 1966 Trail 90)… No packaging sheet enclosed, but I confirmed everything I ordered was there (plus the Honda filter). Still need to call them about that.

$5k to get their foot in the door is really a good idea but then again a decent shop $5k really doesn’t get that much in higher moving parts like oil, coolant, sparkplugs, seals, gaskets exhausts and other fast movers.

$5k + is a very easy number to hit every month.

Sorry I should have been clearer-its $5k minimum to open the account but I think the yearly spend min is like $7500 but that's not really ever an issue for a dealer.  And you're right, $5k doesn't get you all that much, the average shop does a far larger initial order.  Consumers would be shocked if they knew the dollar value of the parts in stock for your average shop. You can have $5k on a couple oil racks haha!

My dealings with them have been all solid thus far, and I have to come into this thread and give them props because just today they randomly called about a return I made like five months ago, saying the refund didn't process. Sure, it was a mistake on their part, but it's nice that rather than just email they left a voicemail asking me to call and verify exactly which payment option would be best for me.

This is why I rarely shop in person period. I don't need a sales person in my ear while I'm browsing. Few things annoy me more than yappy sales people. If I need help or an opinion I'll ask.

And it's important that shops do have some workers available for when you DO have questions.  But until I do, leave me alone.

Having workers with accurate answers is usually my issue. My local powersports dealer has a staff that usually knows less than I do about what I'm looking for.

Maybe not but I think it’s very possible someone that sits at a desk heard about it and told the warehouse people something. If a client complains at my work the “desk” people will for sure get the warehouse people acting right.

Speaking of FedEx shipping...

I work at a semi-local big 5 dealer. A lot of pieces parts are shipped FedEx. Tracking says they are in the town the dealer is in. Not delivered for several days.

Service manager went to the FedEx place of business to see what was going on, and found out there are 28 tractor trailers that are waiting to be unloaded. He said it may be several weeks before they catch up, if they ever do...

And this was before all the snow hit!

That's when you start asking for a refund after delivery is made. FedEx guarantees delivery times. Tell the shipper you want a refund if it wasn't shipped by you. You'll start getting your deliveries on time again. FedEx Ground is the worst, all contract workers that don't care.

I bought 2 close out Tld hoodies for Christmas in December from them. I had no complaints about product or service on my order.
