Deegan was only P1 in Q2. JUJU was P1 in Q1. According  to Kellen: Interesting, Juju was just on a lap and Deegan (who was rolling) looked back, saw it was him, and jumped right back on it in front of him for three corners before letting him by.

So deegan was trying to hold him up because he knows he's faster. Its great to see this kid melt down. Maybe he'll come back more humble.

I've got a lot of time for the way JuJu conducts himself.  He's ice cold like the best F1 drivers and doesn't seem like he's here to 'have fun'. He's here to win. His coat he wore to A1 was sick also.

Matthes has gotten shit from JT when he has brought up the fact that Deegans SX results aren't actually that amazing and that there is a massive difference in his SX and MX capabilities. I think he has been right all along, Deegan has a lot of work ahead of him on an SX track. Which is to be expected, he is young.

But i think he/his team should pause any talk about 450 and challenging Jett & Co like they did in the pre-season and focus on what is important right now.

Regional titles don’t matter either. Outdoors and 450 SX are the only titles that matter.

Did anyone else hear his podium interview and think he implied that he got arm pump?

That’s what I got from that also.

He literally said he got arm pump so you don’t have to speculate.

I wouldn't go that far that regional sx titles don't matter. It's a "lesser" title for sure. It's a stepping stone for the 250 guys to learn the ropes of SX. I'm not in total disagreement with you though. Less races, only facing half the field. That's why it does make you raise an eyebrow to see HD struggle out there. No panic button being pushed though. We're only 2 races in

An argument could be made that a 250 SMX title is more impressive then a regional. They are racing the whole field.  Yea it's only "3" races, but 6 moto's against the whole field.

This is the correct take. We don’t refer to RC as a 16x champ. Or RV a 10x champ. Or MC as a 9x SX champ.

Nailed it

But…I can’t remember the last 450 champions we’ve had that hasn’t had a regional SX title to his name.

They don't count in the record books, but one is almost needed if they want to move up to the 450 class.

Look at the 450 class and the guys making main events. Most of them have at least one 250 SX title to their name.

So in that sense, one could say a 250 SX title is important.

Without one it seems like guys are "stuck" in the 250 class. There's nothing wrong with that. It's a pro class and they need to earn a living.

The last guy that won a premier SX title without a regional title to his name was Jeff Emig in '97.

I fully expected kitchen to beat him. Deegan wasn't as good in SX as he was outdoors. But we don't know how much of that was the lack of prep.

That said after kitchen and forkner were out I almost thought he'd go undefeated. He didnt have the speed today. That wasn't just to blame on the start. If Davis and difrancesco don't both run off the track he's most likely not catching them

Honestly i thought he would win out as well or come close to it.

I will leave this here so folks can decide. If anyone pumped it was Schock because he went from a 53 to a 56. If he did the stopwatch could not detect it.

I wouldn't count Deegan out just yet, but if Beaumer and Smith continue to ride as consistently as they have, Deegs had better start winning soon.

I think Fro was the only guy to win a premier SX title without winning a prior regional title in the last 30 years. So it has been done…

I think a lot of that comes down to the rider as well. A lot of guys say they want the 250 SX title before they move up. RJ, Craig and J mart come to mind. And then they stay down year after year.

You do bring up a good point though, 75% of the 450 gate has a 250 SX title.  It might be an area where the sport could evolve its thinking. There are guys that are just better on a 450.  Chase comes to mind, Eli too.

The only argument against the SMX title is the gimmicky points system that de-values the championship in my opinion.

Not sure why it just can't be a total of all points scored throughout the whole year for SX, MX and the 3 SMX races, that would give a truer indication of who can be there all year not just 3 races at the end of the year.

So deegan was trying to hold him up because he knows he's faster. Its great to see this kid melt down. Maybe he'll come back more humble.

Can’t do stuff like this and expect people to not clown you when you’re about to cry because you haven’t won a race.

Don't get me started on the points system in SMX.      It is utterly ridiculous.

The SMX points system shows that everyone on Vitalmx forums CAN agree on at least something

Colt Nichols has one, and he so far hasn’t qualified at a1 and i don’t think he qualified in san diego. When he did, he didn’t have the best results, yes they are results but he’s a past champion so we immediately think he should do better than he has.
